Max is in a vegetable state. Vecna doesn't straight up kill people he consumes their "soul". Hence why he says join me because he's taking their "souls" with him leaving behind their lifeless bodies. With Max, eleven is able to get her heart to beat again using her telepathic powers but she wasn't able to get Max's "soul" back because she's with vecna which is why max is just in a vegetable state. At the end when she spined the bottle and went into Max's head there was nothing there which is why she was screaming no because she realizes that max isn't here, and her lifeless body is what's left of her. Thats my take on the finale of the season

Correct. Henry himself states this in episode 7. El used her TK powers on Max to restart her heart. Unfortunately, that's about as far the powers could go due to Vecna essentially having her hostage. As much hate as Brenner gets, he was correct. They weren't ready to fight Vecna and it showed.

Also would’ve been smart Eddie and Dustin to have some molotov’s(like Robin used on Vecna) for themselves to use against the bats. Their last problem, which sadly couldn’t have been helped, was that all of our group’s timings of executing their plans was off by just a little bit, particularly the group of Hopper, Joyce and Murray. If they had torched the Demogorgon and Demodogs sooner, Vecna wouldn’t have gotten Max, and Eddie would’ve survived the Demobats. However, if Mike had given Eleven that pep talk sooner, she could’ve broken free from those vines and stopped Vecna sooner. Either way, all of the groups being off sync couldn’t have been helped

Huge standout outside of the obvious choices for best scenes is when Max was dying. Lucas absolutely killed me with his acting. I'm not one for crying (only thing to ever make me cry was Cap saying "Assemble" in Endgame and then Thor's yell and the music swelling etc.) but his acting did get me a bit choked up. Like everyone else, after a few episodes of this season I knew we were getting something special. So glad you guys are finally caught up. Now we wait.

The really big standouts this season: Sadie Sink, she really deserves the praise throughout the show. Noah Schnapp: He wasn't given a lot, but what he has is great. Joseph Quinn: This man made Eddie so lovable, and he got it ROUGH, even after death, his legacy is tarnished to the public. but Quinn performing Master of Puppets got Metallica themselves to contact him, give him a guitar, and join him on stage for a performance! Grace Van Dein, she was barely in the first episode, yet has fan following and entire ship with Eddie built out of there chemistry.

I'm surprised Holden and Jen didn't talk about the twist in the episode which is that there was never a Mind Flayer it was always a proxy/avatar of Vecna interacting with them. All the interactions they had with the entity in S2/3 were actually with Henry. Also I agree with Holden that the Eleven Vecna fight was too short but I think they're saving it for their final battle in S5 like Harry and Voldey in Deathly Hallows. It was essentially just to establish the difference in power between Eleven and Henry, that she still needs another power-up to go.

As cool as the mystery is, it doesn't leave a whole lot for a compelling villian - There's a reason Season 2 and 3 are considered significantly worse than Season 1 and 4. Taking away Vecna and having it be the Mind Flayer again would've been such a huge let down.

Actually if you watch again, The Mind Flayer was a thing. It was a cloud of particles with no form, but then Vecna just gave it one, based off the monster he drew as a kid.

it's crazy to go back and rewatch after this season bc you can hear the clock several times throughout the early seasons and when will goes into one of his episodes in s2 his eyes are very similar to vecna's victims when they're in their trances. they tied everything together pretty well which i appreciate. also just shoutout to all the child actors for their phenomenal performances this season. every single one of our party members just blew me away and made me sob at one point or another this season. i call this season their infinity war bc they ultimately lost in the end. we're in the endgame now.

@@dylanperryman8003 Yes that's true, however, what we're supposed to get (according to the showrunners and actors bts) is that the Mindflayer is controlled by Henry/Vecna/One and thus should be seen as one person. So all the way from season 1, it was always Vecna/Henry/One controlling the creatures from the Upside-Down. Many reactors that I've seen don't realise that. It could be because they're not really paying attention, or the show didn't make that clear enough.

The actor who plays Eddie Joseph Quinn actually learned to play some of that Metalica solo. He went to a Metallica concert and got invited backstage to meet the band. James Hetfield told him he was a huge fan of his and Joseph proceeded to almost faint. He said that he and his kids watch every episode as soon as they are released. Then they gifted Joseph a guitar that looks like the one in the show signed by the whole band. Then Joseph jammed Master Of Puppets with Metallica. Talk about a metalhead's dream come true.

Vecna absorbs the people he kills and becomes more powerful, Max died, so he absorbed her mind, but Eleven revived Max, and her mind is in Vecna, I believe that in the next season they will recover Max mind before killing Vecna, just like they recovered Will before closing the gate. This is my theory.

"Sucks to suck Jason!" Literally is EXACTLY what I said when I saw that Holden. That made me laugh so freaking hard. It was satisfying to see him die because he was such a fucking tool the entire season. But also I thought his death was a bit of a throw away death. Since he was such a focused on antagonist for the whole season, it felt like they didn't know how to get rid of him, so they just throw him on the gate as it opens. Most of my friends that watched it, didn't even notice him die because it was only a couple seconds that you see it and he doesn't even make any noise. But fuck Jason. Also the way Lucas and Dusty cry in this episode makes me so freaking sad. These actors are amazing, and you feel the characters pain. Truly amazing.

Okay, I know this video is a year old, but I've been rewatching a lot of these to make sure I've clicked on the like button. The one thing I've noticed about the 4 gates opening up is where they come together. It was at the Public Library, that's where Hopper and Joyce found Will, and the building also has a clock tower. Also, out of all of the people Vecna/Henry/001 has killed, Max is the ONLY one who has a body to come back to if she can be removed from Vecna's mind and restored to her own body.

Vecna absorbs who you are, all of your memories. Eleven shared her OWN memories she had WITH Max so she could be alive. Which she is, but those weren't nearly enough to bring her back together. Hence the darkness inside her mind, all of her essence is still in Vecna's mind.

For Max, i see one of two storylines for next season: Either 1. Eleven was able to psychicly resuscitate Max but will need to get Max's soul from Vecna. Or 2. Eleven will need to learn to let Max go over the course of the season as there's no way to bring back the soul. It may even start out as #1 but slide into #2 over the course of the season.

eleven did cpr on max’s heart with her powers, that’s why she came back, but vecna “absorbed” her conscious, if you remember, dr brenner (papa) said when ONE kills someone, he takes everything from them, eyesight and the ability to feel

Interesting fact, when El is searching Max’s mind to try to find her, she doesn’t find anything there. This is the show trying to tell us (later confirmed by the Duffer brothers) that Max is brain dead…there’s no one there… 🥺😞

I think Eleven saw that Hopper was alive when Vecna showed her visions of everyone "fighting and losing", but Mike and the others had no idea, so they should have been more surprised, i mean Hop was apparently dead for almost a year !!! it's the end of the world, i get it, but still hahaha

i legit thought they were setting up for steve to die, he was confessing all this stuff to nancy i would of lost my shit cause steve is hands down my favorite character the growth of him through the series is amazing eddie dying broke my heart and max i didn't think they'd do that to the main "kids" i was shocked this easily has been the best season of the series. the first season will always hold a special place in my heart just because of the magic of the show when i first saw it when it came out having no idea we'd be here at this point but this season is just top tier

As a doc who sometimes deals with patients like Max: brings up the ethics of keeping patients alive after cardiac arrest. The brain doesn’t tolerate lack of blood flow very well. Large portions of the brain can “die” as with a stroke. People may “wake up” but will never be the same. Elle reacted how most well-meaning family members react when demanding everything possible be done to keep their loved one “alive”.

the entire show is like a one giant campaign of D&D. And this was their first actual big loss at the end of the storyline, which of course happens, rolls are missed and characters die... this is the most I've been interested in where this is going next and I've been watching this regularly since season 1 premiered.
