My favourite interesting fact about the Prince of Egypt that only further proves how much of a masterpiece it truly is that the voice actress of Moses' mother Yocheved (Jochebed), Ofra Haza, not only sang her part for the English and Hebrew versions of the film in "Deliver Us", but also in 15 additional foreign languages! Ramses is a great character in this. He exemplifies how people who are raised a certain way are molded by their surrounding, and can't see the error of their ways. He couldn't see the dissonance of believing the Hebrews weren't people but still loving his brother, even after knowing he was a Hebrew. It just didn't compute for him that those two things couldn't both be true.

I’m so happy you showed her and that she enjoyed it. It’s great too that she felt empathy for them all because God also felt the same, had Rameses let the Hebrews go, the Egyptians wouldn’t have been smited. Even in the end, God lifted Rameses to the rock after the waves, sparing his life

This movie was my mom's favorite telling of Exodus. It showed Rameses and Moses having an actual brother relationship and it involved Zipporah in a more active role in the task Moses had in liberating the Israelites. As mentioned by others, there is a stage musical of this movie now. One of the places it premiered in the United States was Tuachan, an outdoor theater not far from St. George, Utah. The backdrop of the theater is the natural stone the theater is built into. The voice of Moses was Val Kilmer, Iceman from Top Gun and Doc Holliday from Tombstone. Sadly, he doesn't do much talking anymore due to throat cancer. The singing voice of Jethro is Brian Stokes Mitchell. A huge Broadway star who is considered Broadway's last leading man.

Prince of Egypt got a musical play some years ago. I attended the European premiere of it in Denmark and was blown away by how much a theatrical stage amps up the musical numbers. I am 99% sure it was unintentional, but that final "Deliver Us" at 29:54 hit me so hard as a Christian and someone who knows what happens as Moses comes down the mountain to find Israel turning from God and worshiping the golden calf. It speaks to that while they may have come out of Egypt they are still enslaved to sin and torn from God so their hearts still cry for deliverance, which God fulfills for all mankind with the coming of Jesus.

Our stories and customs are not the same. If you would never attend an indigenous powwow and then go home and incorporate the rituals you saw into your own practices, you shouldn't do it to us. @@judeancupcake7553 You throw "universalist" and "culture destroying" as venomous and hatful insults, yet don't you believe your God to be universal? Did He not "destroy" the culture of the Egyptians by tearing down their false gods? I'm not Jewish, so your God or beliefs can never apply to me? If our frameworks differ that much, I don't think we'll ever be able to hear each other. But speaking from my belief in an objective, universal God and Truth, no, I'd never attend an indigenous powwow. Not because of some sort of weird respect of how their genetic code differs from my own, but because I do not believe it to be the truth. I have a good many historical, philosophical, and theological reasons that I believe Jesus's resurrection is a true fact; something that only heightens my respect for the Jewish people as they are the ones God chose to bring the Messiah into the world, fulfilling His promise to Abraham that "all peoples on earth will be blessed through you". If you are unaware of those reasons or merely find them unconvincing I am in no position to convince you, but there is no reason to interrupt my honest conscious-derived beliefs as some personal attack upon you or your people. In ancient Egyptian culture, the way you wear your hair (or in some cases, someone else's hair) designated status. That hairstyle is called by historians "The side lock of youth" because it's only ever seen depicted on royal children (both genders). So it's interesting that even as a young adult, this version of Rameses is still wearing it, and I think it says something about how Seti views him. Also, nobility wearing someone else's hair as a wig was a symbol of their ultimate authority over them.

That being said, if you spent the majority of your childhood in Sunday school like i did, this movie is the holy grail of religious entertainment. Lol

23:19 There’s an obscure joke that’s gone around the Internet in the past few years: the Hebrew word used for the plague of frogs, Tzefarde'a, is singular - implying that the plague just might have been one Kaiju-sized frog. 26:39 I’ve always said that this is the one scene that above all others, makes this adaptation superior to “The Ten Commandments.” At this point in the other film, Charlton Heston is wandering off in “prophet mode,” shouting praise to God for Israel’s deliverance. Here, Moses weeps at the cost of that deliverance.

And to all my brothers and sisters who read this, Have a blessed day.

I am Hindu, with no connection to the biblical story, and I absolutely LOVE this movie. I watched it and loved it as a kid, and it's stuck with me ever since. The story is fantastic, the soundtrack I still listen to sometimes. The acting was great throughout, as was the animation. It made me curious about more biblical stories as an adult. Moses is an admirable leader, regardless of your religion. Great lessons for kids too - I will show it to my son as soon as he's old enough - and it's unexpectedly funny too in places. One of the best movies ever made, animated or otherwise.

Regardless of the message and the story, I think EVERYONE should give this movie a show at least once because the soundtrack and visuals especially for that time are simply breathtaking.

Note on the soundtrack. Jonathan Young did a metal version with Caleb Hyles and Lee Albrecht of "Playing with The Big Boys", that I think Jen would love. It is such a tonal shift, because it goes from being this kind of slow, silly song sang by the comedic relief villains, Martin Short and Steve Martin. To make them sound like these epic villains who might actually have something under their sleeves.

I haven’t seen this movie in years but it’s popped up on several channels I check out on here. I’ve always loved the music from this film and it is WITHOUT QUESTION the most beautiful animated film ever. Is it 100% accurate, no, but they still did a mighty good job. The scene where the firstborn are taken in the night, still chills my blood to this day

I remember watching this in junior high when we were learning about Egypt in history class. As a Christian, I knew this was the closest I’d get to watching something biblical in public school. Although in high school English we did get to listen to the sermon Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God. And knowing that Jen is Jewish, I have a bigger respect for you two. When I was younger, I dated this Jewish girl and her parents made us break up when they found out about me being a Christian.

Thank you for bringing attention to this film. I’m Jewish. Well versed in this biblical story and some of the midrash. I’m also an armchair Egyptologist. When it showed the Orion constellation, I thought about the Egyptian interpretation of it as Horus’ father. The theme of reincarnation. I don’t know if that was what they were intending. Remember, the biblical story would also be about the slave mentality being shed.

This movie is so amazing, and I grew up with this film. There is actually a stage adaption of this film that played in the West End that you can watch live right now on Broadway HD. And when the Covid struck two years ago, fans got the chance to submit a video of them singing when you believe to make a special lock in video. I was one of the blessed people who got to be in the video. The video as well as the musical soundtrack can be found on KZbin. If Jen enjoyed The Prince of Egypt, I highly recommend her check out it’s pretty cool Joseph: King of Dreams. It’s just as amazing and have awesome songs as well. ❤️🧡💛💙

A movie so cool and epic even non churchgoers love it. I rented this one quite a few times growing up, and went on to watch it every other year as an adult. It's just that good. Also, I love the Ten Commandments too. I don't watch that one that often, but I did see it recently, a couple of years ago, and I saw it twice on the same month, just because I was excited about how much it held up from when I'd seen it as a kid.

It’s been a while since I read the Bible but I don’t recall the relationship of Pharaoh and Moses really detailed as much growing up. I always took as both The Ten Commandments and Prince of Egypt both taking liberties with part of the story. This was Dreamworks Animation 1st animated film, suggested By Steven Spielberg. Without it, we wouldn’t have the extensive animated library Dreamworks Animation offers now. And Yes, This arguably one of the best animated films of all time.
