I actually felt comfortable riding on the highway, but I did not enjoy bouncing off the CVT transmission limit. It's better to slow down a little bit.

The S23 variator I got from ScooterSwapShop bumps up your speed before you hit the Rev limiter. on slight downhills I've hit 74mph before being limited by power and wind resistance. 15,000 miles strong on my ADV so far.

I want an ADV or PCX because I want that extra top speed for faster roads. I love my Navi around town and it does 50+ with me on it, but it’s happier at 45 so I stick to that. I like riding to work and taking longer rides, and one of the 150’s will serve me much better in that regard.

SAME. I am on a Navi right now, and there is one hill on my commute that it wont do over 35, and it's a 45mph road that most do 50+ on. I am also locked in where I'm at, freeway speed bridges in every direction, so being able to hit 65 for even a short period of time would be life changing with where i can go.

That surging that trek talks about in the video almost sounds like a electronic speed limiter. On my NSS250 Reflex I have topped that bike out many times on the interstate highway and there is never any surging when I top out on my speed at 86 mph. Since my speedo is optimistic at 5 mph at any speed I am actually doing 81 mph but never ever has there been any surging when I run out of cvt ratio. I have heard this also from other PCX 150 ownwers as well. Makes me glad I bought an old Honda NSS250 now!!😁

I have now had my ADV150 for a year. little over 4000 miles on it. I would NEVER take it out where the speed limit is 60 or higher. While she will hold 65 WOT, there is nothing left. (Mine is still 100% stock.) If you hit a head wind, you could have trouble maintaining 60. All the highways around here are 70-75 MPH, but like the road you were on not all that busy. All the back roads that I do all my riding on are 50-55mph, I usually do 45-50 for best MPG, but will do 55-60 if other traffic is around. Mine looks like a touring bike with the top and side cases, but I call it my 2 wheel station wagon. I love the looks at the grocery store when I come out with a cart full, and stuff it all in on the bike. I bought mine to fight the high gas prices, just so happens its a blast to ride. I have cold weather gear, If the Michigan roads are dry, I ride.

The 350 ADV is in short supply in Europe so i reckon Honda will be in no hurry to make this available in the US. Also the ADV 150 is not availible here in Europe. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your video on the ADV 150. You have covered all that the bike can do. I wanted to know what the bike can do top end and if it was stable. We have two Honda Ruckus scooters right now that me and my wife like to ride around town. We really have a great time on those bikes. However, several of our local town roads in Florida are 40 and 45 miles per hour. Top speed for me is 38 on the Ruckus. So I am looking to maybe upgrade to the ADV 160 just to be a little safer. But if Honda even put a 100cc or 125cc on a Ruckus, we would stay with it because we just love them and the looks too. So thank you again. I think we will upgrade to the ADV 160. Dont plan on driving on I-95 with a 70mph speed limit but good to know that it is possible. I dont want to push the bike hard hopefully increasing its longevity. James
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis Жыл бұрын
As long as you're not pushing the limits of the ADV at max speeds for long periods of time I think it could handle anything to be honest. Bouncing off the 67mph limit over and over again seems like it would wear parts prematurely. Plus, it's no fun feeling that when you're going that fast. The sweet spot for the ADV 150/160 is anything under 50mph I'd say. To me, anything above that isn't enjoyable to me. Everyone's different! It's good to know a bike's limits before purchasing something though.

as a former driving instructor, and now 61 years old...I am having trouble finding a reliable vehicle ( Van / Wagon / whatever ) I would be nervous sitting at stop / signs / lights without a rear-view mirror. I notice it seems hard to see clearly behind you unless you lean over to one side. I would be worried about getting rear ended and pushed into the vehicle in front of me. I have never even ridden a 49CC scooter, but for only FINANCIAL reasons only I would consider taking the 16 hour class at the local community college and getting my motorcycle endorsement so I can buy one of these. For $4,000 - $5,000 it seems like a reliable mode of transport around town and short trips out of town. But living in Wisconsin I have no clue where to even store it for the winter months?
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis 2 ай бұрын
I am always looking behind me, especially when I plan to stop or sitting idle at a traffic light to make sure vehicles are slowing and see me. I'm not sure if I would be able to get out of the way even if I tried, but maybe. I am always aware of my surroundings. The mirrors are not going to provide 100% visibility, but it's enough where I have the confidence that I can see what I need to. I never feel like they don't do the job. You take a chance every time you ride and that's just a choice we make. I know a guy who was rear-ended by a delivery truck as he waited at a traffic light, it happens. The delivery driver didn't see him and was probably looking at this phone. He was laid up for months and lucky to be alive, with multiple neck/spine surgeries. He said he is done riding and is selling his Harley. All it takes is one time to change your mind about being out there on two wheels. However, I don't focus on the "what-ifs" because it saps the joy out of the experience for me. I accept the risk and I'm as careful as I can be and that's all I can do. I would never ride without a helmet, however. That's also a choice. Anyway, the rider's course does teach a lot about riding that you would never read in booklets because the instructors have a wealth of knowledge (most of them) that is priceless information. I was humbled going through the class because I thought I knew pretty much about riding. Wrong. You always learn something. BTW, if you get a bike you can buy a nice cover online to store it under if you don't have a garage. Some of the better covers do a great job protecting the bike. You can check out the slightly used market for motorbikes too and may save thousands, then invest quality accessories and enjoy the experience. Riding is a combination of keeping a positive outlook and being true to your physical abilities or limitations. Once you find the right bike you'll really enjoy two wheels a lot more. Hope this helps!

I personally do not like the limited power of the ADV160 as it can do 72-74 mph on a flat road and can hold 64-ish with hills. Though the gas mileage is at its worst when riding long distance having to hold the throttle at max and overtaking cars is sketchy. Great scooter for stop and go traffic around town, but it is not made for the interstate in my opinion. Also .. I have never experienced the fuel cut / rev limiter bouncing you describe on my ADV160. The speed on the 160 just does not get past 74 mph. The 74 mph is achieved only with me tucking in the windscreen.. sitting upright I'm maxed at 72.
@Trekopolis

Right around 67mph I can feel this bouncing sensation like some limiter is preventing the bike to go a higher speed. That's okay since I rarely will go that fast, but it does feel strange when that happens. The ADV160 probably can go a little faster I'm hearing. Full throttle will keep it around 63-65 normally. I've hit 67 a few times, but any uphill or oncoming wind plays a factor. You can cruise all day long at 60mph though. Have you considered something on the used market like a Burgman 200/400 or something with a little more power, but still an automatic? The lack of added power on a busy highway traveling 65mph when you need it is the conundrum. Sometimes we must accelerate to avoid an ugly merging situation because braking is not always an option. You have to jockey for position or people will merge into you. I see it all the time. I spent nearly two decades as an outside technician traveling our tri-state area and there's no way I'd want to accomplish that on my bike. That's a recipe for trouble.

Nice vid, and thanks for sharing. I plan to get a Honda Grom when I move back to the USA next year. Never ridden a motorcycle in the USA before, but I’m a 5’6” guy who has travelled and ridden motorcycles and a few scooters in Asia, self-learned. I feel pretty comfortable driving a light motorcycle (I owned a honda 110cc in Vietnam for 6 months). My question is, do you think it’s useful for me to take a motorcycle course in the USA or can I do fine just learning the motorcycle rules online? To be clear, I have a USA car license and have a lot of experience driving cars. I would rather avoid spending the money on a course, just wondering if it has any use for those comfortable on motorcycles in other countries. I have no interest in driving on highways - just commuting and little backroads adventures in California.
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis 5 ай бұрын
I will always recommend taking a course in the US because even if someone thinks they know all there is to know about riding a motorbike you will learn something new. I was very surprised how much I didn't know. The course I took in Ohio was not expensive at all and for the amount of knowledge and confidence it gave me it was a no-brainer. It will also allow you to waive the riding test at the BMW if you show your passing certificate. When you get to the US research courses in the state you'll be and go from there. You may have to wait a bit because they tend to fill up quick, but it's totally worth it. Just my humble opinion.

@@Trekopolis Thanks, great feedback. I have no idea how much it costs, but I guess I assume $300 or something given things like this (workshops) sounds like it would be expensive in the USA. I’ll check it out - just super excited when I can get my first bike there..

How was the wind on you and does it get squirrelly at those speeds?
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis 6 ай бұрын
The wind is tolerable with the screen, but yeah, it's still there. The screen helps more at lower speeds I feel. At 65mph you're gonna have to deal with it, but it's better than not having anything I suppose. The only time I feel squirrelly is when a cross-wind messes with me. If there's no wind it's not too bad honestly. My sweet spot is under 50mph all day long on back roads. lol

@@Trekopolis Thats what i said.. They released the Forza 300 from 2014-2016. I got a leftover Forza 300 in 2019 for 4k. The msrp was around 7k. Also, for an extra 100lbs, the Forza 300 max speed was only 80-85mph. The adv 160 can go 70-75 mph.

That would be a scary experience, one you'll never forget. Yep, more power does have benefits, especially at higher speeds. Even with that I'd probably avoid highways, just not worth it to me. Always some idiots either drunk or staring into their phones they are addicted to. SMH

I'm about 215 minus a pizza and I have a very steep hill near me leaving that park I show a lot. It climbs up with no problem. It won't set any land/speed records, but I would never feel as if I'm holding up traffic. It does a nice job pulling through the entire incline.

I don't think that's normal. Maybe the front wheel/tire isn't balanced. Interesting. If you work on your own bike I'd check the two nuts on the front wheel to see if there's any play. I'll see what I can find.

@@seanhenry4601 Oddly enough the manual doesn't even show or state the nuts for either wheel. In that case I usually carry my socket set over to it and try various sizes until one fits! :) I'm finding this service manual is very basic and lacks some detail for certain things.

I’m told the ADV 150 has a Rev Limiter on it. Changing gearing is the only means to get more speed. But remember it’s never good to run any engine at Full Throttle for any period of time. You have good comments to make any scooter last a long time. Right now having about 4,000 miles ,my scooter is at dealership waiting for a new Fuel Pump. Been two weeks now still waiting for parts with no estimate how long I will have to wait.🤔🥲
