Great video,a small tip at start, go to merge>merge visible.Then select the new tool created, go to zplugin > decimation master,press preprocess current and then decimate your model (for exmple 250k) polys so its lighter for blender to manage it and not have lags on retopology. Keep up the good work!

Hey Prod, we talked a bit on the Blender Discord about making characters out of separate meshes instead of trying to make it one contiguous mesh with 0 overlap. I learned a lot that day, for sure. Just now I was looking for tutorials and recognized your character with the bug from your other video. Very cool to see you actually have in depth explanations of your workflow! What inspired you to start using 3D Coat when you already have Substance?
@Prod_3d2 жыл бұрын
Oh hey! Glad i could help you out. When it comes to using 3dcoat, i use it a lot because of the artstyle that im usually going for with my work, which is a lot of handpainted. 3Dcoat is really good for handpainting textures. I still use substance painter tho depending on the artstyle that im going for and it is possible to handpaint in substance but the features in 3dcoat is built around handpainting so i prefer it there
@AberrantAberrant2 жыл бұрын
@@Prod_3d That's actually really important info for me because I also choose to hand paint. Thanks again

question from a noob. why can't we use the model in zbrush and had to go through the process of retopology? is there some sort of AI plugin out their that can automate this process? or in other software like Maya?
@Prod_3d2 жыл бұрын
Hi, this video is for a game ready workflow so the main reason for doing the retopology is to get it optimised and ready for games/animations. Usually for game models, it's important to have a clean topology to save performance and to have a better deformation when going through different animations

i dont understand how to get good detail with the low polo retopologied mesh... its something that idont get
@Prod_3d Жыл бұрын
The high poly is what contains all the detail and the low retopology version is what will receive this detail by baking the low poly with the high poly. The low poly is what's used in game engines

How to get more fine and tiny details on a low poly model after retopology? Someone help please!

Thanks for the workflow but do you have a workflow for triple A character? Thanks in advance!
@arsenart6482 жыл бұрын
its the same process, on triple A games you can have more quads on retopology and more heavy textures.
@nytr8_ Жыл бұрын
if i have a weapon there in a character should i bake it together with the character or separately
@Prod_3d Жыл бұрын
I normally have a separate UV map for weapons but it is still possible to have it in the same UV map as your character but will have a smaller texture density
@beepbeep-m6m2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, great video and your model looks beautiful! I just have a question, what do you do when you have 2-3 different materials on a model, but you need to have a single texture map at the end? I've seen people combine them on photoshop, but wanted to ask anyway. My character has parts that wont have a normal bake, and parts that will be baked using opacity, so I need to have 3 different materials for one model, but I need to have a single texture map at the end. Hopefully that makes sense.
@Prod_3d2 жыл бұрын
Its possible, just make sure when you are unwrapping that the UVs only uses 1 UV map. Then when you have the texture map, you can just assign that texture to each material

One question, do you just import a decimated high poly into blender for retopology? Or?

Ye the best way would to actually decimate it first to save performance when doing retopo

I can't understand UV packing process, can someon explain why we do that?
@MrGATOR19802 жыл бұрын
so textures know their place on the map and the resolution was even on each piece. without this you wont be able to color or put textures in ex. substance because you will have no map to refer and a big overlaping mess when you try to put textures. the word MAP is very appropriate for this ones :) without map you lost your way.
@Roman-L2 жыл бұрын
@@MrGATOR1980 Yeah, thanks for that, but cant I just have a separate map for different parts of the body? for head, torso and lower parts, one UV and texture map for each
@MrGATOR19802 жыл бұрын
@@Roman-L you can but you have to unwrap them also, but it's not optimal so ex. you will have 20 textures, each one 2-3mb, so imagine how your game model will be heavy at the end.
@Roman-L2 жыл бұрын
@@MrGATOR1980 Yeah thats right... do you have solid experience in character design workflow? I have some other questions and if you have time we could chat on discord
@MrGATOR19802 жыл бұрын
@@Roman-L nah, im learing as you do :) but what i can tell you is this, this video process is reallyyyyy good and simple you just need to find something more specific how to make model in zbrush or now in blender sculpting is really good, and some retopology tips and you set for this kinda characters. and try to look for informations 2021-and current couse some things are now diffrent and lot of guys stick to old ways in their tutorials. if you interested in hardsurface also ex. i recomend you blenderbros for most recent techniques, and for sculpting and character, guy from "Speedchar" YT channel and you set my man just practice couse practice is the key to this stuff.

hello im not sure if you would still see this but why did you not export the baked mesh from substance? i tried exporting textures only but it had some weird lighting issues cuz the mesh displace it has is not there
@Prod_3d2 жыл бұрын
Well when you texture in substance, your import the low poly mesh so when you are exporting you only have to export the textures and baked maps since you already have the low poly mesh
@peter4862 жыл бұрын
i cant take you serious wen yore high polly looks like a low polly whats the point in projecting of you arent adding any details.

High poly to low poly is a common practice with any 3D model regardless of how complex or simple it looks- it’s what keeps programs from crashing during rigging/animation/rendering
