I want to give a tip to anyone wanting to tone arms, and get a full body work out with beat saber since I have personally have seen real results after just the first month: 1. You really should be playing on no less than Expert to get in a good work out. Get good enough at the game, do Expert and Expert+ on CUSTOM songs (if you have oculus quest or rift) as they are more challenging and fun. 2. Find songs with a fast BPM, like 120+ and more than 800 blocks. This will encourage QUICKER arm movements which cause for greater physical exertion. 3. Use FULL range motion from your arms. Don't just use your wrists or elbows like a door hinge. Strike with your entire arm and pull in power from your CORE. If the blocks coming at you don't cause for a full range motion, like a down arrow in the center, do a squat in stead WHILE striking down. Same goes for up arrows coming at you from the top, do a nice jump instead of only swinging your arms up. EXAGGERATE those movements and hit the blocks as if you're using your physical strength to break them. 4. Try not to stay stationary, move around. Even if the map doesn't have a wall coming at you. If blocks are coming at you from the side, do a side lunge. Keep your knees soft and do a slight squat for low blocks. Extend and jump for high blocks. You WILL break a sweat, you WILL feel it in the morning. You WILL feel your muscles activated. Doing these everyday you will surely see results. Good luck!

As an Exercise Physiologist, I've gotten some good info/insights from your video (although probably not the one's you might have thought). 1. I'd probably use one of those military style/wrap around weight vests. By restricting your chest muscles, you train your body to use O2 more efficiently. Maybe even use one of those masks that restricts breathing. 2. I probably would have used Heart rate as a measure, since it looked more like a cardio work out as opposed to a resistance workout. 3. Ankle and wrist weights, well it depends. Based on your movements, I'd normally give them a pass. The exception is my next point. 4. From your video, it looked like you were moving the entire body more in that final one handed song. So maybe only use weights in one handed songs. 5. I might find some Katana/swordplay forms to practice prior to starting, just to train the body to move more efficiently and globally instead of simply using the arms. Thanks Megan!

Well, let's take PC VR-gaming for instance, the HTC vive has heavier controllers (negligible effect however) but custom songs aka one-click-install from browser. From here on you have songs like Rasputin which, if you actually bring forth your inner ruski, is quite heavy on both arms/shoulders, hips and cardio. The basic songs is just as you put it, heavily leaning on cardio as opposed to strength or anything close to that, at least up until Expert+ I struggle with Expert+ because the notes are moving so fast that I can't physically move my arms fast enough to depend on reaction/recognition alone, I have to memorize notes at that speed. I don't want to memorize by practice and then be able to play them so I just force my way through aiming for 100% in maybe the next decade :D It hurts but at that difficulty it is definitely resistance workout. Either way Beat Saber is easily the number 1 way of ensuring people gets their daily minutes of activity, it's unbelievably addictive! (also, faster notes is a thing, less of a window to hit them)

Megan, this is the correct way of measuring your muscle bulk. First use a bony landmark, for example in your arm use your lateral malleolus of the humerus. Then flex the muscle that you do want to measure then fint the peak of the muscle. Measure from the bony landmark to the peak of the muscle, then from their measure the circumference. :) Its better to do it with someone to avoid errors :)

I'm sure this has been said already but don't do the wrist weights! You could potentially injure yourself! Personally I got Beat Saber about 8 months ago and I've lost over 70 pounds since which is crazy. For the first time in my life I am not overweight anymore. I also started dieting at the same time though, which was probably what lead to most of my weight loss, but Beat Saber has definitely had a role to play in it. I work at my desk 24/7 and I can't afford to step away from it for very long so Beat Saber is pretty much the only chance I get to really move and move I do :D. Like you I was also a Guitar Hero addict back in the day so this game really hits the spot! Edit: Should've watched the whole video before commenting 😂 Beat Saber is more about cardio than working out your muscles. Playing on Expert+ will get your heart racing and that's all you really need from it. Higher heart rate, more calories burned. Those crazy movements that Beat Saber has you do can really put strain on your arms and shoulders and adding weights to that is just asking for trouble. Although, some pain is to be expected at first, especially for people who are not used to moving much. The first couple days I played, I would wake up barely being able to move but I was not exactly in good shape to begin with.

Get a Oculus Quest and MOST im import: CUSTOM songs! This changes the whole game for beat saber it makes it WAY more fun! Also the further you get into Expert+ territory, the more your heart rate will raise up and provide a real good cardio training. I regularly have avg heart rates of 140-150 and peaks up to 180 with difficult enough songs. But, imho there are not enough difficult Expert+ songs in the basic PSVR kit and you can't get custom songs with it. Oculus Quest is the way to go! Follow up edit, so you are able to compare your fitness to mine, since you seem pretty fit from the overview of your videos: I finish the K/DA Pop song one-handed with a mere heart rate of about 140, that's pretty easy for me. The song Crystallized I finish with a heart rate of about 170. These kind of songs give really good workout. Needed about maybe 80 hours of Beat Saber workout under my belt in the course of 4months to get to this level. And it gets even more fun the better you get! You really get into a crazy high intensity flow state :D I also thought about wrist weights, but the better i got, the more workout I got even without the weights, since the mere fast motion needed to hit the notes were enough. Hope you read this and get valuable information out of it :)

Hey @MeganBatoon, I actually do a few videos myself and absolutely LOVE Beat Saber. I have a Rift S though and run the game on my laptop so its a little different. The modding community on PC is absolutely crazy, (in a very good way) and creates tons of playable content (pretty much any song you can imagine). I saw, during this video, that you had a North Carolina shirt. I've actually made a good bit of friends online through streaming and KZbin, but haven't met anyone from NC yet. I'm glad to see others (not too far from me) share this passion and might follow your exercise routine. All that said, how do you deal with the headset sweat; my headset gets drenched haha (maybe TMI).

Seriously, get an oculus quest, and next to beat saber, get synth rider too. The last game really targets your core, and there's some great synthwave to be had as well.
