Why I Wrote The Song.
While I may be tempted to diffuse any attacks by stating the fact that I am a Jew (At least by blood, genealogy, and any formal way you look at it... I was born of Jewish heritage. The Franks came here from Europe in the late 1800s and settled in the then exclusively Jewish community in Stepney, London. My ancestors have grand jewish names like Solomon and Emanuel.)
To simply use that would do my point a disservice.
Not to mention the fact that the song also specifically mentions all of the other groups I want to live in a world without:
Catholics
Protestants
Muslims
Sikhs
Hindus.
(And I would have added every other religion in here too if I had the time.)
Which brings us to why I wrote the song and the album:
I refuse to be defined by the word or the religion. I am no more a Jew that I would be a Catholic, A Muslim or a member of any of the great religions.
I don’t want to live in a world populated with Jews, Muslims, Christians, etc. I want it to just be me and you, whoever you are reading this. I could go into a long debate about the vicious and ever growing religious divide that is causing so much misery because we have divided ourselves up into religious tribes. None of which has a right to be called “true.” My album does that for me.
For myself, I have had enough of the unnecessary suffering and unspeakable violence that is carried out in the name of one god or another.
It’s time we all stepped out and away from our chosen faiths and became one community.
Love needs no proof, we all feel it everyday for those close to our hearts. Its the only force that can be trusted to guide us into doing what is right.
You don’t need a god to be good. So far, belief in a supreme being that created the earth and ourselves has caused nothing but mayhem. It’s time we woke up to the fact that, apart from being a fantasy, it doesn’t work and never has.
When you watch the video, bear that in mind. Don’t watch it as a Jew, a Muslim, a Christian or believer of any kind just watch it as you. Just you. Only you.
With love,
Billy
