The Bracket Battle returns to help me pick my worst book of the year. In many ways it's more like the most disappointing because some of these weren’t so much bad as just not for me…and that’s ok!

It's interesting to see you agreeed with the worst but not the best, I'd like to see what happens if you do it again after thus year is over. Also im so glad I never wanted to try Emily Henry books. They seem interesting but I'm not really a romance girly and hearing your rants make me know I made the righr choice

I enjoyed the process enough that I think I'll do it again. Breaking the bracket into categories also made me think about the books in really interesting ways. And while Emily Henry isn't for me, there are a lot of people that love what she's about. So it might be a good library pickup, but if it's also not your genre generally you could likely skip.

I know on one of my last videos I talked about loving illustrated covers BUT I am SICK of the trope of cover that is "cutesy cartoon cover with hand written lettering taking up 80% of the cover" I think this trend needs to graciously leave in 2024 pretty pretty please they're all so boring and tell me nothing of note

I think you've captured my exact frustration with them. It's not that I don't like illustrated covers (because they can be fun!), but I think they've lost a bit of what made them special and stand out in the first place. The ones that stand out still feel exciting and interesting--Katee Robert's use of illustrated covers in some of her series are great because they're doing something different with an illustrated style. But the ones that feel like a formula don't get me excited to read them anymore.

I would love to hear more about your perspective if you're open to sharing. I think there were some interesting quotes and worldview moments that I valued reading, but overall I struggled with writing-level things that detracted from the potential positive rep. Which was just frustrating!
