Just a summary: 📖 don’t sit in the back of the classroom (if you have a low attention span) 📖 use textbook (+ more materials) in addition to class notes for better grades 📖 don’t focus too much on aesthetics of notes/planner etc.. don’t spend way too much time on MAKING notes rather than STUDYING/LEARNING them 📖 not taking language classes as soon as you get into college 📖 not approaching professors for advice (if you’re shy/introvert) My personal advice: 🥇be one step ahead form your class - read through the chapter/ watch KZbin videos on the material in ADVANCE, so the class would make MUCH MORE sense. 🥈 Never delay your assignments/ Homework till the weekend because you’re less likely to be productive. Monday-Friday are hectic, but still finish the easy stuff first and keep weekends for reviewing notes/working/ relaxing/organizing. 🥉just being in the library for hours won’t help you to get that A unless you’re ACTUALLY studying.. it’s more important to be at a place you’re comfortable and relaxed even if you decide to study for 30 mins. Good luck ❤️

I'm in grade 12 and as soon as I saw your title, the first thing that popped in my mind was how much time I wasted the past year. You never get that time back. I regret not communicating enough. I regret not making myself a priority. I regret procrastinating. Always. These are things I will carry with myself always. To anyone reading, please don't waste this precious gift called time. Life is very short and you get only one life to live out your dreams. Get your arse off the couch and work for your dreams!

Hell yeah. It's a great thing to realize that time doesn't stop for anyone. After graduating HS, I took a year off and wasted my time playing videogames all day. After that year, I got a job to fund my videogame addiction. Then I stopped playing because I was working so much (I ended up having two jobs) and I lost interest because I've never really interacted with the outside world all by my own. I really regretted that I didn't do anything productive. I felt like I was falling behind since everyone was going to school or at least had something in mind they wanted to do, but it was just "age pressure" getting to me. It's okay to go at your own pace and it's okay to not know what you want to do or if you don't have a passion/desire for anything. I had a conversation about this with one of my lyft drivers, and he told me something that made me feel validated? (idk but I cried) for all the time I wasted. Yes, I could have done a lot more at that time but I wasn't in the right headspace. Eventually that time I "used up" has led me to where I am now, reflecting on the past and now the present, and it will always be a work in progress. (I hope this made sense IDK plus I'm being rushed by my dad cuz we dont have hot water and my water is done heating up and I said I was taking the first shower and now I'm just taking up hios time lol)

The notes aesthetic spoke to me lol. I used to ALWAYS need to have very colorful notes and would even keep starting over if I thought the page wasn't "neat" enough. I'm currently studying for my real estate license, and I've adopted a modified version of the Cornell Method (I don't do the summary at the bottom and I use grid paper so I don't have to waste time using a ruler for margins) and keep it down to a black pen and use color to put extra notes in the margins or emphasize very key words. Omg, it's made things so much more efficient for me! I'm also a believer of sitting in the front of my class. It definitely helps to keep me engaged in the learning! As always, your videos inspired me to find more efficient ways to get the most out of my learning materials and practice EFFECTIVE STUDYING instead of looking at notes "just because".

I think that my big mistake in College is not participate in classes, I am a student of law too, so is supposed that I have to be a person who need to talk almost 100% percent of the time. So, if I have to give a advice a student (no matter which career you chose) is PARTICIPATE IN CLASS.
@mariana-vieira5 жыл бұрын
I don’t even know how the heck I didn’t remember this one. Probably because I tied that with the whole “not being able to approach teachers” thing. I can’t count the number of times my grades were harmed due to lack of participation in class. Bah!
@kedeeky5 жыл бұрын
Really great point! Participation helps me either reinforce the learning, or realizing that I don't quite have the hang of something like I'd assumed lol.

It looks like your handwriting changed from the beginning of your KZbin channel to now. It is now more relaxed and efficient. That’s one of the things that I also changed about myself as well which was instead of focusing on the neatness of my handwriting I write more relaxed and focus on the things that are important🙂

I love your videos! The aesthetic part really spoke to me, not just for notes but also for my planner, since I'm such a perfectionist. Thanks to you I'm realizing that my planner and notes are tools to help me move foward, methods, and don't require perfection 😊

Thanks for the reminder 😂. My biggest mistakes was choosing the wrong courses that I’m not passionate about. My advices to everyone is that choose the courses you’re passionate about and suitable for your learning lifestyles. So yeah, if you’re choosing the wrong courses,you’re probably wasting money and times but you may want to work for some years and earn pocket money before apply the right courses for you.

Sixty percent of any college course is going to be prerequisites. Students have to learn to lean into the courses required them, not avoid because "work ain't no fun".

I made the mistake of trying to make my notes aesthetically pretty and using only pen. I now try to simplify my notes by writing in pencil and note using so much colors for everything. I usually only have 4 colors: yellow for brief important/emphasized info, grey for info related to the first (usually done in textbooks) purple for vocab/key terms, and some other color I have for like names, dates (depends on the class altho the 4th gets neglected anyway x'D)

I could relate to most of the things you listed out in this video. In my last two and a half years of university (out of five) I had to make up for all the things I did wrong before and I regret a lot, but I guess it is all part of the learning experience you get in university.

Love this! Academia is intimidating but at the same time it has very humbling qualities. I too constantly beat myself up over not being more extroverted during class and reaching out to teachers. I feel as though this has been one of the greatest burdens on me academically speaking. It makes me feel better knowing that it is not just me who has these worries. xx

This is so helpful! It’s my first year of university and it’s been interesting figuring things out on my own. I am an absolute lover of stationery and the aesthetic of notes. But I know I shouldn’t let that get in the way of having effective information down on paper! 😪
@ItsMe-ox8lm5 жыл бұрын
What I really regret from my path in university is that I didn’t study with purpose/intention, all I did was homework and study for my tests. Right now I am studying for my postgraduate’s application test, but until now I am conscious about the knowledge that I learned at college. I started in a good shape my university career, but when I was like in third year I started to skip classes, and I was like: I can learn by myself with the book, or I don’t need the professor. When I was in class I avoided to be in front of the professor, so yes I was distracted. I am really sorry about all the things I did, because I feel like a wasted all those years. But here I am trying to do the right things. Another thing that I just learned from KZbin is that we really need to work hard in order to get what we want. Nothing is free! And in my country students don’t have the knowledge of “how to be a student”, because we don’t have to make a huge effort to get into college or boards exams, we don’t have like this healthy competition. So until I started to watch “Strive to fit” or your channel is when I realized that we really need to study in a integrated way and be conscious about it. So thank you 🙏🏻. I love the direction of the Chanel. BTW I started to study English when I was in college, and I have abandoned it... but it’s time get better, so this is one my goals this year, to improve it.

Hi Mariana, I super agree with the things you said and I would point out that something that is really important is to file your stuff from college in a way you can keep track. For example: You can separate a binder for each semester or keep a binder for all your tests. If you get certificates you should also scan them and save the originals toguether. You never know when you will need this kind of thing and if you keep yourself organized from the start its not a trouble.

We get reading materials in pdf format, but they are scans of books, so most of the time my pfd program doesn’t recognises text so i cant highlight. So i still print all my reading materials (which is a LOT) to highlight and take notes on them. It pains my heart to print all this, i feel like im wasting paper, but i just never read my materials on my laptop if i cant annotate :(

You need an OCR tool. It recognizes text in image form and transforms that to editable text. HiPDF and PDFelement both have that tool integrated in the software.
