1. Paying attention in class ( less to reread in home ) 2. Stop multitasking 3. Don’t rewrite notes ( try mind-mapping instead ) 4. Create answer guides 5. Study out loud 6. Plan your study session ahead

Another mentality that has really helped me over the past school year: Your grade isn’t earned when you take the test. When the piece of paper lands in front of you, your grade has already been determined. You change your grade in the hours and days and weeks before the test. By the time you take it, everything is set in stone.

The first tip is so true. In one of my recent classes I was 100% active in the lecture and paid attention. When it was time for me to study, there wasn't much effort being put into it because I actually knew the material. You don't have to "study" what you already know, I just quickly reviewed. I got an A on every exam.

Now my study hours will be more precise and consistent with any topic I have in school. Thank you Mariana!!😃

I find that rewriting notes really helps me. I tend to try and write everything down from my lectures and a lot of unneeded material from my textbooks. Rewriting my notes helps me condense all my notes for maybe 5 pages to 2 that way I have less by my midterms and finals. I also find that doing this also helps me review my notes since I do it about a day after I took them. It does depend on the class though. And every person is different. I've felt that my studying has gotten better since I started rewriting my notes this year.

Sorry for the late reply! I study Physiotherapy and just finished my 1st year. I made a huge, very organised binder and I do plan on keeping them especially because I have another 2 years of undergraduate and then another 2 for a master and I will 100% need them. We do however study the most important things in the first year: all Anatomy, Types of Injury, Special Tests etc. I would suggest maybe scanning everything and saving them on Dropbox or anything like this so you still feel like you have them if you ever need them. I can definitely understand how much paper you might end up having so yeah, just back-up everything so you don’t feel like you wasted it 😊
@sarahthestitcher6 жыл бұрын
Late comment! I think notes can add to clutter, especially if you aren't using them or referring to them. If you are worried that you might need them, or want to hold onto them, see if you can scan them! You could use a printer/photocopier to scan it to a USB or send to your email, and there are apps you can download for your phone or tablet. (I use Notebloc.) That way you can have a digital PDF version of your notes and you can throw the paper ones out. :)

So true!!! Being prepared for class by having readings completed and actively participating in discussions helps you retain so much more information and really cuts the amount of study time you need before an exam!

I have another technique that might interest you: going through lectures and writing down broad questions on the material (not too much detail) into a table that cover the whole lecture content. Then answer them the next day in the opposite column. Correct them afterwards to make sure it's all correct and nothing is missing. This allows you to prepare summaries early on that already have your own "structure", have already been memorized a little and are not just copied down. Plus, it's really "deep" reworking of the material.
@bubblesxo6 жыл бұрын
I do this too with a spreadsheet/excel creating columns with questions and answers (you can make the answers have a white font to hide it). I saw some other youtuber do this and it is so handy. Any deep work with material is important whether it be tables, mind maps, flash cards, etc.

Could you do more videos on being paperless please? I’m planning to go paperless for my university course in October and so more videos would help! Thanks ☺️
@thebabymomo27096 жыл бұрын
Rolake Akinyande hi, I also wanted to go paperless but found it very difficult. There is a channel called paperless student an it's really good in literally telling you everything you need to know about going paperless. However, it is still really difficult and sometimes, for me, I found I cannot learn some things by looking at a screen and also it hurts my eyes for looking at an iPad for so long so a balance must take place. Hope this helps.
@r_yandex6 жыл бұрын
the babymomo thanks for your reply! The reason why I thought it would be a good idea is that after doing a level maths (ran through around 13 notebooks), I found that my most effective revision is active recall.. I just thought it’d be a good idea to trial it in first year but what were some of the pros for you?
@thebabymomo27096 жыл бұрын
Rolake Akinyande for me, I study philosophy, politics and history so it's quite different from a more practical subject like maths or chemistry or physics. I would definitely recommend for something like maths because you can have everything all at your finger tips at any time. The same for a more humanitarian course like mine (although it's quite scientific). For me it's good because I have so much paperwork and enormous amounts of required reading so I found it unrealistic to print out all these papers and essays and carry them around with me because it's just too much. Having everything nice and organised at my fingertips is really a big help and I'm not having to run around with huge amounts of paperwork which is just so heavy. Also, I like the way in notability for example I can record my lectures and seminars which is what I used to do on my phone. I also enjoy doing art and plein air sketching and the iPad Pro 12" is really great. That's another thing, the 12" is really suitable even though slightly big - I can have two things up at the same time which I find impossible on a smaller screen. I use split screen a lot for example I'm reading a document while writing an essay or summarising.
@Taveriie6 жыл бұрын
I currently doing this as well. I am an English and Psychology student. Currently 10/12 of my books are e-books and all my notes are digital. It all depends on finding something that suits you. I have the 9.7" iPad 6th Gen with Apple Pen support with a "PaperLike" screen protector. To touch on Babymomo's comment about it hurting their eyes, I use a pair of non prescription Blue Light Filtering glasses. It creates a very subtle yellowish cast, but the eye strain is greatly reduced. I found I can read off my tablet for hours without headaches.

What would you say about typing your notes before class from the textbook, and then adding teacher notes in a different colour afterwards? Last year I spent a lot of time rewriting my notes because I simply cannot write fast enough in class and I miss information. The type of class makes mindmaps a struggle except for very particular subject areas. I wanted to take my laptop into class to take notes, but my teacher doesn't allow it. I spend hours everyday trying to type my notes before class, but it cuts my time for rewriting in half. Would you say that there was a more efficient way for me to get around this?
