Jim and Brenda, It's really great to see Baron , Earl and Duke on the White 2 furrow plow There doing so well on the 3 horse hitch. Baron is so steady in the furrow supporting Earl and Duke. The lack of moisture wouldn't help with the compaction issue for sure. With the dry conditions your furrows are reasonably straight. ,Drain tile installation takes a few planting seasons for the land to recover. Great filming today Brenda following along behind the plow.

Awesome sunny day☀️. Colours are beautiful🍁 Really can see the colours of the beautiful Suffex brothers with the sun shining on them. I kept getting Duke and Earl mixed up as Earl is full brother to Barron. This view really shows the difference. Duke and Barron are more similar in colouring, Earl is a darker red! They look great and doing such an awesome job together🙌🏼Another great education video🙌🏼🍁🤠🇨🇦

Hi Jim and Brender just to say how much I enjoy watching your films it takes me back to my childhood, I was brought up on a farm in England and miss it very much, just one question ,why do some farmers not plough these days, keep up the good work Mick.

What about going over those compacted areas with a subsoiler. That's what my grandpa used to use. He said that worked well to solve problems like this field has.

When you get to the hard packed part, have you tried leveling the plow frame by lowering the other side? That might help your contact in the furrow…

Jim your being to critical on yourself .8 acres of oats ( and grass seed ) and 3 acres of cob corn in a normal year , your cultivation practices are just fine . A 14 inch plow your horses walk 7 miles to plow one acre of ground . So therfore at 3mph , 2hrs and 20 mins to plow an acre .But factor in rest stops , you and your horses are doing a fine job , in my humble opinion .😊😊😊

You may need a new plow point to get deeper into the compacted ground. I learned from an old blacksmith that if the point is wore much it wont go in the way it should.

Jim,I know a lot of guys pratice no tiles farming and after few years depending on their soil conditions they have to much compaction that it would prevent their tiles to work the way they should and that is when they chisel plow it over.

Several years back, I was plowing with my JD 4-16 plow and my ground is pretty heavy clay. There were places where the ground was so hard it would push my plow up out of the ground. Then I decided I needed new plow points. Once I had them on, my plow would go down deeper than I had ever seen and stay there no matter where I was in the field. That was the first time I had seen my Oliver 1850 grunt a little. I said all that to say this, maybe your plow points could use a little work so they might stay down a little better for you.
@michaelsavage44143 ай бұрын
First off let me say I know nothing about horses or plowing or farming (other than I like watching your videos...very entertaining!), but you made me kind of worried when you were kneeling right next to that plow while explaining why it wasn't plowing well. It seemed to me that if those horses bolted for some reason you could sustain a serious injury being that close to the plow. Not meant as a criticism, just an observation! Thanks for all you do!

The trees with the red leaves are so pretty, what type of tree is it?
@chips49743 ай бұрын
Mary this is just a general observation. Maples ,red . Oaks , brown . Birch and Poplars yellow . Sumac ( a shrub) bright red . But site , tree health and type of summer can effect color. Plus a strong wind can effect time . Reminds me of the man from Saudi Arabia who thought our trees were this color all year long , and how beautiful our country side was .😊
