It's hard getting back on track to write everyday, and for me the struggle is real. However, I got a story to write and share with the world, so I'll take days like I write my words-- pushing forward one day at a time. #writing #writingvlog

I'm right there with you ! Since january I didn't do much writing. I wrote two first drafts in 2021, and I had the goal to publish one of them, but I realized it was not meant to be and was not the book I wanted to be my debut novel. Since then, I took things slowly and refilled the well, and now that I know what I want to write, it's begun but I've lost the dedication I had last year. Like you said, it's easy to get comfortable and lazy, so easy to derail. I wish you good luck with your editing process, and I hope you'll get the vibe back between nano and camps :)

Thanks for sharing Claude. I love what you said, "you took things slowly and refilled the well." I'm adapting to that plan of action.. take things slowly and refill my well. Camp Nano is right around the corner and WE GOT THIS! Looking forward to our writing together again.

My struggle is staying focus on one idea and seeing it through before moving on to something new. My mind is a constant with new ideas and I tend to want to write on multi projects at the same time, neglecting to finish. I think for April camp nano is to focus on one project and finish it during July camp before starting something new in November.

Staying focus on one project just at a time... I know of a few writer friends who can multitask on 3-4 projects. Such talent. I can't. My suggestion is to a running notebook (my nickname for a note pad of ideas for your mulit-projects) don't let any of those ideas slip away, but jot them down and re-focused on that one project. I had to put my haiku book for this year aside because I didn't want anything to distract me from my manuscript.

I agree with the comment about staying focused on one project until it’s finished before starting another. I can’t even tell you how many stories I have started. How many have I finished? Zero. And I’m writing all the time- but because I’m not focused on one particular thing until the end, it just becomes an ongoing process with no real finished product to show for it. Fantastic video and grade advice. Going to save it to my playlist.

Thats what I had to do for Camp NaNo this year... I would usually do 2 but decided to put my haiku book on hold and focus finishing my cozy. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

Hi Tish! I know, for me, when I still had my little ones in the nest (they're grown and flown now), it worked best for me to set a very small goal every day so that I could consistently meet it. Sometimes it was just 15 minutes a day. I'm with you--sometimes the consistency is more valuable than racking up a big word count. There's something nice about crossing it off the list every day. Hugs to you!

Good evening Tish. I really enjoyed watching you here in this video. The consistency thing is the easiest place to beat ourselves up as writers. I was travelling around England for a month recently and did not write as much as I had expected. Prior to this I had been in one place for months and leaving the house every morning to write for two hours in February and March. I added a good manuscript of 70,000+ words and it was the small daily habit of getting morning writing done. Once I was travelling this broke my routine and the writing intentions went down the drain! However, I am back home now for this next month and so daily morning writing in a coffee shop (I struggle to write at home and the public writing keeps me more focussed). Thanks again for a hugely helpful share from your writing space. Nick x

Welcome home. I'm going to start getting out the house more and write at the coffee shops in my area, something I missed doing. So far I'm doing pretty good with consistency-- day 14 for me but it's a daily struggle that's getting easier.

Hi again. Glad to see a vlog from you. As for my struggles, it mainly with my day job and the shifts I work there, specifically when I work a 10am until 6pm, then get home by cycling by 7pm. And then I try to get supper and shower done as fast as possible. But it also depends if I don't have a nagging headache or sore eyes. Since I have tried to give myself a month to try to write 3 chapters out on my tablet, but this month has been a battle from the heat, then sore eyes and headaches. And I am only getting very creative by the time my due date comes calling, which was yesterday the 20th. (I live in south Africa, western cape). So I have 7 days that I am giving myself to try to get out 8k words. Even though I have 4 days of working those 10am til 6pm, I know what is going on in the chapters but it is the words to get out onto the tablet. I don't have a laptop, since my one crashed last year, but I am trying to improve my writing process and try to write as best that I can. Thanks again for another helpful vlog, and good to see you. Be safe and keep well.

Pressure... you may be one who works great under pressure, 7 days 8k I have faith that you can do it, simply because you must. I feel you though, you have a lot of responsibility that's your #1 priority. Don't give up, just do what you can even if it's a few pages or paragraph a day, even a week after you accomplish your 8k. I lift prayers for you to find comfort with the heat and eye strain. You are tried I can sense it, but the fact that you continue to push forward with your words is inspiring!!! I'm so proud of you and don't forget to breathe and take some "me time" even if it's just a quick nap (if possible).

I struggle with consistency too. I've actually found not focusing on my writing has actually helped me. It would kill be before when I wouldn't write everyday BUT writing isn't my bread and butter, I have other more important obligations so it was werid at frist to not focus on it . However now, I write notes about my novel when idea pop up, I'll have the planner open to the next section i will focus and finish and on days when I'm actually clear headed I feel I bust out more work productivity ( stror progression) wise that onE day for maybe 1-2 hours and I call it.

That's a fresh idea, "not focusing on your writing." Sometimes I get frustrated with myself if I don't accomplish my writing in a timely manner-- but you're right, we can focus so hard on something and never get it done. It's like over studying for a test, and on test day one will tend to forget everything. I'm glad you were able to find your balance, and that's the optimal keep to success is balance. Love the planner, great way to actually stay focused and productive. Thanks for sharing!!!
