Have you, by chance, set up a Zello for work channel with a scanner on it? 100% of my mutual aid neighbors are on different analog VHF frequencies and different dispatch centers. I'm trying to figure out what the user experience is on the phone. I have our primary dispatch channel on a JPS gateway (started 'home grown' and then got budget) so everyone is comfortable with the Zello app now but I'm thinking the phones will chirp the day away with the scanner traffic.

If all you’re wanting to do is scan, that’s extremely easy to do.. You could do it with a scanner or rtl dongle. Scanner, just use a standard 3.5mm cable from the scanner to the mic input of the computer (highly encourage using a $10 ground loop isolator), open an instance of Zello Work, add a gateway instance, and set the receive audio to the mic input of the 3.5 coming in. SDR, just run a dongle, whichever sdr software you like, and set a virtual cable to the input instance of Zello Work with the same steps as the scanner input. You can go into the setting of the Zello app on your phone and turn off all the annoying chirps and alerts. I Hope that helps.

I was originally looking at the roxi link gateway, but they wanted around 200 I believe. I then saw your first video and decided to buy the R1 off eBay for $50. Took a month to come in, but I got it all hooked up today and it works great. What is your opinion on the roxi vs the R1?

Honestly, they both have seemed to work identically well. However, I think the RoxiLink probably lends to more radio applications. When I was talking with them, they told me that they pretty much have a cable for any radio. I’ve only been able to find a cable for the R1 that interfaces with a Motorola 16 (or 20) pin connector. Otherwise, I think both work equally great! The RoxiLink has a little advantage on the cable because it’s only one USB for the audio, where the R1 is 2 USB cables, but other than that 🤷‍♂️

Would you care to share the settings to make it work? I have one hooked to a Motorola CDM-1250, zello will talk through the radio but nothing the radio hears will come back through zello. Any ideas?

Trying to set up a system like this for a dispersed hospital system we could monitor each other. This seems like a great setup. Could something like this be used for say five different remote sites?

Yes as long as each site has internet it can be done I am working on a system like this right now

gud day sir , theres so much radio gadget theres too much , mine is only a baofeng radio UV82 with BOOSTER and a CELLPHONE android as a ZELLO gateway , my set up is a VoIP no LATENCY and REALTIME wherever i go i can change my CHANNELIZE frequency only to use a 4 channel DTMF tone decoder, i only bring my cellphone as a walkie talkie ,i can modulate on any frequency i program on my BAOFENG UV82 just KEY button 1-2-3-4 i can change my frequency on my radio, and using only DATA that last a year no more computer even wifi internet,

Would you be able to connect the Kenwoods to the R1? I’m looking to do the same with a TK-7160 or TK-7180.

If you could find the appropriate connector, it would probably work. However, the R1 connector comes with a standard 16 pin Motorola accessory connector and I’m not sure where I would begin looking for one for Kenwood.

@@kd9pcdradio The NX5000/VM5000 mobiles have excellent I/O control to the rear DB25 connector. I've got a VM5000 connected to a Mumble server using a Signalink interfaced to the DB25.

Also how do you have the kenwood mobile radios connected to the Zello gateway

The two Kenwood TK-790 radios are connected with the RoxiLink gateway module. The modules are then plugged in to the computer and run an instance of “Zello Work” which allows the radio traffic to go back and forth.

Hey so what’s the federal console and how do you have your dispatch set up with the Zello setup. Like will it allow paging tones?

The federal console is completely separate - it controls the tornado sirens in the village. Zello is not set up with our dispatch console, I was just pointing it out. We have 10 radios that are set up to a separate room on a computer to allow a small dispatch-type set up. This is all just at our fire department.

@@rampartcountyfiredepartmen9497 we run multiple instances of Zello Work on the computer and then point each USB input and output to the appropriate instance. Each of the Roxi Link gateways are 1 USB cord for both transmit and receive, so we just point the appropriate gateway to the appropriate login for Zello Work.

Good afternoon on this Friday October 7th 2020. I just have a quick question for you. I understand that you have 10 radios for dispatching. Would it not be possible to run Zello work on several cheap micro or mini computers with the Roxi link or R1 connected to each radio?

@@cleare8 the radios that we have set up for dispatching utilize the rear DB25 connector already. That’s what connects them to the dispatch console. If we didn’t have that, then yes, you could run multiple instances of Zello Work and run several radios to a single computer. That’s how I have my Zello set up currently.

Well I live in Waukesha Wisconsin and I noticed that this is in Dane County where this was filmed it looks like I was always wondering how that was all set up in your neck of the woods we have something similar in our new Dispatch Center that we just got installed using Motorola MCC 7500 consoles but the setup is similar to the rack with all the radios on it in a separate room I was hoping to try to set something like that up in my bedroom at home but I would have to have your help or something like that doing so because it was pretty nice to have once completed that way I can monitor different traffic everywhere and be able to respond right away so maybe you can come on over and give me a hand with setting things up I used to be an amateur radio operator until political things happened with some of the radio clubs in my neck of the woods and let's just say that I'm not on the air anymore with no desire to use that part instead I'm using VHF license free m u r s and FRS with other things such as scanners and whatnot it would be neat to have all the stuff patched in so I can at least enjoy some nice console audio for a change
