Absolutely the Greatest Rock Band No One Ever Heard Of...........................................................and that's how Great Art works, sometimes. Tom Verlaine, a Guitar Messiah, to the Chosen Few who managed to pay attention.

That solo. Lordy it's like primal 1968 quicksilver meets Jerry stuff.

Ugh. I'd prefer to look at it as the 'Bolero' of punk - if it's all the same to you

I think of it as a post-punk version of Echoes.

Outstanding for all times ... R.I.P. Tom! Maybe Greg Sage was at this gig - and if he was, he will formed The Wipers?!

I love the guitar solo on this version, it's like he intentionally played something completely different from the recorded version.

I find that if I catch enough live versions of a tune by a particular band you'll eventually find a take that sucks canal water. Not this one though.

Did they play this a half step lower live or is it the recording?

Dave and Mary Caughley The Johnny Jewel 💎 from the show also sounds very different
@bruceluett44267 жыл бұрын
It's a live performance. It's never going to be the same as a carefully produced album such as Marquee Moon. Just enjoy it for what it is.
@bruceluett44267 жыл бұрын
Actually, the Little Johnny Jewel live performance is epic. I think it's one of the greatest performances of all time. The music after the whispered word "He lost his senses." Tom and Television go into another planet that ravages your ears and makes you love all of your senses.
@Squalla17 жыл бұрын
Yep, sounds like it. I just played the studio version and it's at least a half-step lower.
@joshorzeck96096 жыл бұрын
Bruce Luett is the Little Johnny Jewel performance posted anywhere? I know the version from The BlowUp is the ultimate version out of those I've found - as transcendent as anything they've done.

Blown out of the water by Blondie in the May 1977 tour of England, I'm afraid. Lest we forget, in the midst of retrospective Television fever. They were crap live.

I would beg to differ, but if you're the Trevor Barre I hope you are, hello. It would be good to be in touch.
@MrKGHunter2 жыл бұрын
I guess. Blondie is fine, but was much more easily digestible to the masses. All glitz. Television were one of a kind and like the VU before them inspired kids to get up there and do it themselves. They also made one timeless, classic master piece. Blondie never did that. Of course this is all just subjective opinion….but you’re wrong.
@Legion18042 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if this is crap, I'd love to hear something great. Blondie were a wonderful pop band and this is something entirely different.
@chriscoughlin92892 жыл бұрын
Absurd comparison. Saw both - countless times - from 77 onward. Blondie NEVER flew by the seat of their pants - great as they were. Verlaine and Co. scrapped it all at the close of every gig and reinvented it all over again the next night. And they still do.
