I was with a German Navy ship in the harbour of Ft. Lauderdale. The ship received 200 cubicmeter potable water. The responsible NCO took one sip of it and immedeatly spit it out due to the chlorine. We got rid of that water and made our own.

The parking system is the same in The Netherlands as in Germany. Most times there are very visible several pay terminals at the pedestrians entrance/exit of the parkingarage. There are also garages you register with your creditcard or special parkingcard to enter the garage with your car and when you leave with your car you put your creditcard or parkingcard in the cardreader at the car exit of the garage.

Parking Clock (Parkscheibe) = parking disc? It sometimes also has a straight edge and a serrated edge to scrape the ice from the windshield. You will notice in winter. Arrival time to be set to is the next half hour. E.g. arrival at 10:20 -> 10.30 is the time set on the disc. So it is most of the time a little more than the allowed time you are able to park. While at a parking meter it starts right off to count down. And no hidden watch mechanism inside to advance it by itself! That will get you a ticket! Pharmacy = Ah-po-tay-kay Beds: The standard bed is 1m x 2m. US beds are only 1.98m long. So for a pair it is 2m x 2m with two mattrasses on individual frames but no separation in the middle. And two duvets to avoid any blanket-fighting.

i found cookies made in the Netherlands by Merba in our Späti/Kiosk in Berlin, but recently the same brand also at Edeka: normal/hard cookies with (1) milk chocolate, (2) dark chocolate, (3) white chocolate, (4) all three colors of chocolate, and (probably most interesting for you :-) also (5) "Soft Baked Chewy Cookies with Milk-, Dark- & White Chocolate"

I don#t think the "gasping while talking" is a common thing within germany, but i have noticed it once as well. It was around christmas last year that i met up with a family aquaintance and while she was talking she would "gasp" everytime she took a breath while talking. It was rather surprising and i think it is a habit of some people that stems from when they learn to speak.

Prefer the american way about the parking garages, the all-in-one places, week starting with Sunday. I like the German beddings better, with a duvet plus cover type. And everyone has theirnown blanket. Different countries have different sizes of standard pillows. France has square pillows as well, however 60 x 60 cm versus 80 x 80. Norway has rectangle standard pillows, different size than the U.S. though. Never tasted the chlorine in the water in the US., but in France - lots of chlorine. It is always interesting to hear other talking about their experiences from other countries.

The German way for parking garages is more efficient. because you have the queue at the ticket machine and not at the gate. People have diffrent reasons to struggle with this machines. Not the righ amount of cash (not all take card), the coins are not accepted and you try it several times, people don't know how the machine works or are very slow. All this is spread to the different ticket machines, so people have only to insert their paid ticket for leaving at the gate. I don't know how it is in the US but in Germany there are only 2 or 3 lanes to leave. So you need to make this a fast process.

Such interesting content across various topics, funny, but the noises/music at the beginning quite disturbing. The sheets in the US were so confusing for me. I consider the hä? sound so impolite. They do it in Eastern Europe a lot.

Congrats- you made it thru isolation. Please explain the parking garage paying (I only drive in small towns and I don't want to get trapped) . When and where do you go to pay. Is there a token ? for what ? Also I've always pronounced the drug store as App- oh- tech. But maybe I'm wrong ?

Hey John! When you enter a parking garage, you will get a ticket (or plastic coin) just like in the US. You will need to take this ticket with you instead of leaving it in the car. When you’re ready to leave, before you get into your car you’ll need to find the pay machine. Typically it will be located by the elevator or stairs, either inside or outside the building. You will pay for the amount of time you spent parked or sometimes a flat fee. Hope this helps. :) You are correct with the pronunciation! I was Americanizing it. ;) Enjoy your weekend!

Hi John Another fact of many parking garages all around Germany is you can reduce the fee you have to pay by showing the parking ticket in shops where you buy something. They then will code the ticket with a kind of puncher or electronically. If it is possible to reduce the fee it will be shown at the pay machine or board in front of the parking garage.

Yeah, this special little habits make life in foreign countries or regions interesting. You have seen the German habits very well and I guess they are most likely all over Germany nearly the same. By the way, I like your new style with less make up. You are such a nice and cute person you do not need to hide your face under layers of make up.

One advantage of the pay-before-you-leave system is that you have time to resolve any problems with paying. Sometimes a lack of coins of malfunction of credit of debit card. Then you are messing up the line with all the people waiting behind you. No problem in the US but in Germany? Oih Gevalt! I had this problem in downtown St. Paul. Wanted to pay by credit card, which has worked up to that moment flawlessly for two weeks, and it couldn't be run through. Luckily I had some cash in the right amount ($16) on me. But that was embarrassing!
@MyBigGermanAdventure
@MyBigGermanAdventure 4 жыл бұрын

If you have Famila near you, you might try them for their soft cookies. Ads in Germany are often overregulated. So they often become so stifled that they appear totally corny. Tap water in Germany is considered one of the staple foods, and the government has to control the water quality. If your water quality is demonstrably too low and you have babies your local county/Gemeinde is required to provide you with fresh water, even if it means having a water tanker come to your house. Instead of that hassle most communities decide to invest in good filtration systems in centralized locations. The tap water quality in Germany was and is consistently (since the last 40 years or so) better than ANY bottled waters you can buy. It is insanely controlled.

Ooo okay, thanks, I'll keep an eye out at Famila! There's one not too far from us. I for sure appreciate the attention to clean water in Germany! Thanks for your comment. :)

Clorinated water. Yes, you can taste it and you can get used to it. Not in the US but I was in the UK for two months. The water really tasted like swimming pool. But after a while, you get used to it. At least it was not as bad like in the beginning.

In germany tap-water is a "Lebensmittel". So it's food. And it's one of the best monitored and controlled "Lebensmittel" you can get in Germany because it's controlled by government. In most cases (up to 99%) tap-water quality ist better than bottled water. That's why Germans are upset when Nestle's CEO explains that water is not a human right. - - - He's a fu.... as.h... Sorry, but i could'nt hold back. I died laughing when you talked about Tim Allen / Home Improvement (Hör, mal wer da hämmert). It's right - the ahhhhha-sound ending at a deeper sound means OK/got it / copy. The ahhhhha-sound endig at a higher sound means (like Home improvement)"what?" The german "Hääää?" means: Sorry, i didn't understand you, could you be so kind and repeat that please? 🤣

I really, really love how tap water is such good quality here!! I'm glad you found humor in the Tim Allen, too. 😂😂 It's so funny to see how different people, even in different areas say/do things. :) Thanks for your comment!

Actually, the slanted ceiling bedrooms is making the best of the space you have - why waste a pretty high ceiling room for sleeping in it only 6 hrs a day. But it also restrains the bedroom activity to missionary style ;-)

You are complaining about separate stores for pharmacy? The main reason ist that you receive more pharmaceutical advisory service in pharmacy stores. But in return we can buy spirituous beverages at the grocery store. ;-)
