According to The Irish Times, Live Nation Gaiety Ltd. also bought Rory's AC30 (£25,600) and Dallas Rangemaster (£12,800). Both will be on display with the Strat. Great news and it will be a great display.

So am I.. And I'm a Dane Viking invader... My late Dad arranged Rorys first concerts here in Denmark, back in the 1960's. He took his dad, a Louis Armstrong-fan, to the first one, and that's why I know of Rory: My grand-dad told me: You have to hear this Irish-man!!

A guitarist of Rory's calibre will always sound like himself, whatever guitar he is playing. If someone like Rory, Keef or Jimi was playing behind a curtain, you wouldn't be able to tell if he was playing his signature guitar, or some piece of crap from a junk shop.

Rory would have put it differently. He used to play slide mostly on a Telecaster and of course he didn't play mandolin or his acoustic songs on his Strat.

Saw him at Humpin Hannahs in Milwaukee Nov 8th, 1972. Tiny venue. Sat on the floor right at his feet. Couldn't hear for two weeks!!! Never forget it. Listened to Top Priority at least 1000 times.

Thanks for this video and listings of the auctioned items. It surprised me,that Rory owned a Continantel resonator acoustic. These tweed and brownface Fender amps were quite cheap,related to the same models on Reverb/EBay.

Amazing brilliant outcome. Additionally the 'detractors' that voiced criticism of funds being spent in this manner have NO point to make as private money has assured the Strat returns to Ireland, along with other important items & instruments. That baseman combo W/4 10’s. Was his main amp. You can tell Rory choose his guitars by the way the sounded not by brand. Most of those were junk brands I’m glad his strat is going in a museum Rory is a nation treasure

In a pinch, one of those new factory-battered Fender Mike McCready 1960 Strats could serve as sort of a poor man’s RG model. Of course you’d have to sand it down even more…

Great content as always - those early fender amps are intriguing - they must’ve had transformer mods which will have affected The overall sound and feel… From my research, Fender Amps were only available in the UK to buy new from the late 1960s- Check out the Beatles Let it Be movie - those were Some of the first fender 220V amps to hit UK soil straight from the factory - apparently, the fender rep was hovering around the studio…

Is it me or do the similarity in prices for so many items suggest that they may not have met their auction reserve? I mean who would pay £7040 for an Encore Les Paul junior which you would normally expect to pick up for £100 or less? Even if Rory had played it regularly on stage, which he didn't, it still wouldn't be worth the reported price. My hero in the early 70s so I don't like to see this sort of practice.

He paid £100 in instalments for the famous Strat, from a famous musical instruments shop in Cork by the name of Crowley's. I bought my first set of drums there, a second-hand 5 piece Ludwig kit.
