I learn so much watching you sew! So many little techniques that I had no idea existed!!! I really appreciate your "teacher's heart" and humility to explain your mistake of cutting into your garment and showing us how you fixed it! Love your channel! Keep up the honesty and wonderful explanations as to why you do what you do! I have so much more confidence to tackle different projects because of your detailed instructions! Great job!

i was a Union Painter that went through an apprentice program. As an apprentice I had an old journeyman painter pass on his words of wisdom to me regularly {thank God}. He said," The difference between a journeyman and an apprentice; is the journeyman knows how to fix his screw-ups".....I love your show. You talk to me like you are right next to me. Love it.

I remember how excited Mother was when she discovered stitch witchery! She was making a pantsuit for me out of baby blue double knit using a pattern made for wovens...what a nightmare! She mentioned several times that the jacket had 13 pieces (bomber style). The pants were flared with pockets and there was the cutest halter top too. It fit beautifully and i got so many compliments everytime I wore it. Yes it was the mid 1970's. That stuff is perfect for hemming knits.

Videos, tutorials, blogs and so on that show "How to get yourself out of a pickle when things go wrong" are so, so incredibly useful. I loved the section on mending the accidental hole you cut while you were constructing this dress. And it will also be useful for mending in general because even a perfectly constructed garment might need some mending at some time in its "wear and tear" life. I really enjoyed this video a lot!

My high school home ec teacher would approve. She said over and over that to be a successful seamstress you need to spend as much time at the ironing board as you do at the sewing machine. I do appreciate you leaving in the oopsies like the accidental snip. Your repair demo seems quite doable. I also find all of the stuff you do beforehand helpful in getting your pattern the right size. I don’t sew much anymore except for repairs and such, but I remember having difficulty making a pattern larger or smaller. I usually ended up just deciding how much of a change was needed and adding or subtracting that from the whole pattern piece which was usually around the hip area if I recall correctly. I know your tips and advice are helping so many of today’s sewers.

Another great make, I think it’s super important to show errors, firstly it’s how sewing goes, I once finished a pair of linen trousers and just had one seam left to overlock, and a small section on the back was folded under the seam, it cut a one inch V, I repaired it exactly the same way, with a bit of iron on hemming tape, then minuscule stitches. This shows people not to give up, patterns and fabric are expensive, nothing better to show than how to fix things. Thank you for taking the time to share,

Great job. I appreciate your tutorial. Another help with the neckline gaping is to make the neck binding slightly smaller than the actual neckline so that you have to stretch it a little to fit. It really does prevent the neckline from gaping.

It is wonderful that you took us with you on the small repair. This is not a world of perfection and it is good to be reminded of that. Can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me, as I am sure that everyone watching has had a similar experience. You have a generosity of spirit to share this with us. Also, it is very important to show the difference between ironing and pressing for both garment sewing and quilt piecing. Makes a big difference. Thank you for your wonderful instructional video.

I do have a blouse ,that I made for a granddaughter, that I clipped a hole in while trimming a seam. It has been languishing because I couldn't come up with an idea of how to fix it. I mean, it's not like it's jeans and you can just put a heart patch or something on it. This sounds like a good idea and I do have scraps of the fabric. Thank you for all your tips. I'm definitely going to be saving those annoying little loops that come on many purchased garments.

What an instructive video. Thank you for all the tips. I like to sew with cotton knits. Not that scary when you get the hang of it, and the garments are very comfy. You were so calm when you cut into the fabric. It’s happened to all of us, however when it’s happened to me I’ve been known to throw a fit. LOL. Hello! Welcome :) I am pretty much self taught. Funny thing is my first "real" job I was 15 at House of Fabrics... I told them I knew how to sew when I got the job. Ran home with a pattern and started figuring it out. I have sewn professionally in bridal and costuming, but find more joy in sewing when it is not for pay :) Anyhow, glad you found my channel!

Hi Victoria! I think you mean the white lace one right? That was the Armistice blouse from Folkwear patterns. They are crazy wide cuffs... not really practical but fun :)

I found that if their is a gap, you can run a line on each edge of the square neck and put darts till it closes up. Great job Marie. Love your fabric. Can you tell me where you bought it?

Stunning! It fits you perfectly. Now I know what my next project is going to be. One question, you used a tool for punching out the dots on the pattern. Can you tell me the name of that tool, please?

Hi! There should be an Amazon link in the description. It is a leather hole punch ☺️

Another great video, thankyou Marie. I love to work with knits because I find they are more forgiving than wovens, but I do need to learn more woven techniques too. I have just started using the fusible web lately too and am enjoying the results. What is your sewing background? Do you have tailoring experience? I am sure I have that pattern too :)

My sewing background is a crazy mix of just about everything from wedding dresses to upholstery... Just love learning how to "do stuff" :) You are so welcome! More woven projects coming :)

Thank you for all the great tips for sewing knits. I'm getting some Stitch Witchery before I sew my next top. Seems my neck bands frequently look a little wonky so hopefully this will help. Also, I have a small farm and have three horses: two older mares and my gelding that I ride. Love my farm life and now that I'm retired I also have time to sew. Just found your channel last week and am loving it!

Seems like we have a lot in common. Definitely recommend the stitch witchery for knit collars! Hope it goes well for you 😊
