On Nov 19, 2024 my best friend and I traveled to France to see the D-Day sights. It was cold, raining, and a low overcast cloud layer. It was an eerie wet day. As we approached the round about in the city of Les Moulins which gave full sight of the beach I had played this song. It gave me a very chilling tone to seeing a place where real humans gave it their all that day. Many unaware of what sacrifice they were about to make in the face of real raw terror. 18 year old boys who would never grow up to be fathers. As we approached The Dog Green Sector of the beach I envisioned everything I could imagine that happened on that day. This song will forever be an experience that will always remind me of that day I visited Omaha. May God rest their souls. Thank you for honoring them through expressive music.

This is one of the best and emotional music videos. I think I was about 17. I got my grandpa who was in the war to listen to it first. He seemed to like it, strangely. He asked if there was a video for it. Reluctantly I showed it to him. It hit him hard but he appreciated our generation still admired them enough to include it in "new kids music". To show respect. His words. I then later cried because seeing his hard ass cry to a music video I already cried to was just too much. He's gone now. But I think of his cool badass self everyday.

I understand, I lost my Grandfather a long time ago, and I still think of him. He was a part of that generation, and some of his last words to my mother before dying of cancer were: "What was the point to all of this?" He had a much greater right than most to ask that question.
@dawgdimmadab57542 жыл бұрын
@@tylerp3327 he did say his grandpa appreciated the current generations respect for all that occurred in his generation. There is a level of respect that goes into making these kinda music videos real and powerful too. I think MCR nailed it and I think his grandpa appreciated the realness, even if it brought up hard memories. He asked if there was a video for a reason don't you think? If the man lived to tell his stories and asked to see the music video I would be reluctant too, but id still respect his choice. you dont know how much it could have meant to him, even if it hurt. MCR respected his fight with this music video and I hope thats what he got from it. May he rest in peace. I salute you till I see the grave myself

It's the 80th anniversary of Normandy. This song is on time today. God bless those that fought over there.

my grandfather came across as part of the support troops after D-Day since he was cook, and saw the aftermath.. and after the war was a bartender when he came home, never the same and listened to veterans at the bar for 40 years because they had no where else to go.

66yo US ARMY RETIRED, this band and so many others in their genre in the 2000s were more than just punk-emo-or pop. They delt with subject matter that pretty bands wouldn't. I love and hate this song- but it was a song that needed to be written, needed to be sung, and fit to a part of a military person's life the civilians have no idea about, and nor do they want to. When you live a life where death is always there, Soldiers, Police, Firefighters, you know what's real, you know what's important, and you savor every day you can the ever-present Reaper from. And if you make it out, you look back at all who didn't and at a society that never will. So many heroes forgotten for so man fakes. A talent not forgotten in a music world of today where original music is castrated by untalented performers ruining the pure form so many iconic songs were written in from 60s to the 90s. I sure miss this and so many other bands from my better days. Bless the soldier and the families that support them.

This a message from the songwriter. My grandfather fought in the Korean War. He never wanted to to talk about it. The few stories I got he talked about the men who survived that BS. Hand to hand type sh!t. He left me with more questions than answers...

I’m sorry bro, but if you were in your 40s fawning over MCR in the 2000s, that’s just a bit weird.

@timjacob1397 what I would counter this comment is that the lyrics for the song were first put pencil to paper in 1995. So what is weirder? Signed the guy who wrote it.

@andrewoid4711 LOL ever hear of a Ghostwriter? They write under the artists name or a made up one called a pen name.
