Building Focus

The concept of hand feeding meals is one of the best dog training tips I have ever used. I have a 7 mo old American Hairless Terrier. She is laser focused ...most of the time. However, when distracted, I can quickly pull her back with a simple command. I use. "look at me". I handled show dogs for show many years ago so training is not new. This is my first service dog training so I have much to learn. Will probably start course as clearly, this gal knows what she is doing!

When you are hand feeding their meals to build focus are you also supposed to make them work for the food or wait to add working for it while you are building the focus and the relationship?

Ideally you'd have them work for it, even if it's just simple behaviors. But if you're low on time or you have a puppy whose attention span isn't long enough to last for a whole meal, you can just hand them the food.

i just got my 3 month old stander poodle i have extreame anxity and seizuers and have some brain damage from it that effects my meomory and ive been working with her alot with some comands and she does what i ask but even the smallest destaction she dosent really obey me what can i do and im sorry about the bad spelling its part of the brain damage my doctor said by 50 or 60 i wont know anything and im almost 29

How do I solve a problem with being in public and someone tries to say my dogs aren't a service dog even though they are obeying perfectly do you have any paperwork or something thought I could show them but they're allowed to be anywhere I only have a problem with one place in a small town with these two little ladies it just don't like that for believe that you're allowed to train your own dog or any of those things my dog is a diabetic alert dog and they don't believe or I can't afford one and I was like I trained my dog myself and my dog goes to the doctor the hospital the stores restaurant everywhere except where I go to help out with the three squares program try to hassle me all the time the cops have come and told them look she has all the rights and you have none you know on and on and on but they still harass me what should I do

I know this comment is old, but if you're still dealing with this, I'm sure the authorities could help you if they are continually harassing you. It's also a misdemeanor in some states to distract a service dog, so if they did that as well as harassed you then you could report them.
