Tips for dogs who won't take treats around distractions

When I bought my bordercollie puppy, the breeder told us that we could just leave food for him, because border collies aren't that goofy when it comes to food.. already when you said that we shouldn't free feed any dog, that already helped me. ty for telling this

See now the only problem is training my MOM not to give the dogs scraps and feed them all day long. I try so hard to train them and spend hours with them only for my mom to reverse all the training I've done.

Do you ever find that the dogs that are high food motivated have difficulty ignoring food in public

Without training, probably, but mostly I find dogs with high food motivation to be really easy to train, including ignoring food distractions :)

My dog (Smith) will only take treats from me, and not from strangers. If there are stresses, he won't take it. He won't accept dog food as a treat. He is only treat motivated when he is in home. He is fed only twice a day, of 2 cups each time.

my SDIT never used to take treats and i just found what motivated him and when i use cheese it’s like nothing can distract him 😂

My dog is always happy to take a treat except for one time. And I don’t know how to fix it. When I tie him up even if I don’t move and during and afterwards he won’t take treats. I’m at a complete loss. Please help

My dog hates the clicker. He snarls and takes the treats really rough after the click. He is so gentle without it though. Has that ever happened? He WONT take the treats in public. He spits them out.

Mine will leave her bowl try to steal the other animals food and act as if she is starving. She searches the house for crumbs but will spit out treats.
