Hey I have one of these. Yesterday I put the batteries back in it to use it to move my wood. It wouldn't even start with error 202. Called support and they were clueless, but admitted it needed work. It didn't make sense to me as it has been in my shed and worked when I put it away. If you get error 202... turn off the mower. Take all the batteries out. Depress the emergency brake. Wait 10 min...(this is critical)...Then put the batteries in 1,2,3,4 bays in that order. Get in the seat. Disengage brake. Turn mower on. (also make sure the red blade button is in the down position).

TBH, the negatives are just something to work with. I'm definitely getting one now. The stickers are just cosmetics and are likely suffering the extreme heat like everything else. Re the deck's metal to metal bounce, it's no big deal to use self adhesive neoprene for that. Run time just means I'd portion my cutting areas up to fit the power availability. To be charging a ride-on with solar and never have to pay for fuel or mess with disfunctional engines, is a dream come true. Thanks for your honest review.

Emergency brake engage. pull up on the blade button to engage the blade. depress power button quickly to not fully turn on the mower-you will only see bluetooth and the power of the battery reading. Do not sit on the mower while doing this. Do not allow your phone to go into sleep mode. To the people that say less maintenance, you still have to maintain blades, it will wear out tires faster due to the weight, and the batteries are expensive when they fail. My entire house and 2 of 3 autos are electric and powered by my Solar/wind/hydro system. I would love to go electric with my mower but you convinced me not to. The blade deck is cheap and to bouncy. To cut my 5ish acres I keep mowed, I would need to have at 3 full charges or have 6 extra batteries with charges that are charged. Also, I would think the batteries should be beneath the seat to provide a lower center of gravity and would provide better stability on slops. For the time being I’m going to have to stick with the gas gravely and keep getting crazy looks when i pull into the gas station with my model Y to fill up the 5 gallon cans.
@ccattrn2 жыл бұрын
Just as with your Tesla, there are limits on battery capacity. For your specific use, you would need 6 10amp batteries and assuming you start with a full charge, would need 1.5 recharges. Or 1 recharge with 8 batteries, or one swap with 14. You’ve invested in solar/hydro/wind so your operating costs would be at or near zero. Once you tried one of these, you’d be hooked. No, they’re not perfect and would be too expensive to be practical if they were…but they are very good at what they do, they’re fun, and they’re getting better. As for stability…excellent. I have a slope and my 52” ZT handles it significantly better than my Deere. Give on a closer look if you ever have the chance.
@JP-kb4yi2 жыл бұрын
@@ccattrn thanks for the info. I actually did look at one a few days after I posted my comment. I’m torn because my operating cost would be zero with an electric mower. My power system currently supplies a 40% surplus on a low month and that was intentional so I didn’t need to expand it as I switched everything to electric. The only reason I won’t switch is the deck. It’s an extremely thing metal and it would be destroyed in one season. On my property is a low water crossing when we get allot of rain like 2 days ago. After the water is gone there’s allot of small dead tree branches etc. I just mulch it with my gravely instead of spending hours picking everything up. Some of the debris is over an inch thick. I had to replace a brand new mower after half a season because the deck didn’t hold up. I had to get a commercial mower with heavy duty deck and upgraded suspension. Ironically the electric mowers are cheaper (almost half) of what i paid for my gravely. I’m watching the industry and if they come out with a heavy duty commercial mower like my gravely, I wont think twice. I have no problem having 10 or more extra batteries on hand (they would take up the same space as all the gas cans.)
@zo47122 жыл бұрын
@@JP-kb4yi understood. Weight is the enemy here, so I’m doubtful anyone will make the decks substantially heavier. Also, these are light duty residential devices, likely not intended for extremely rugged terrain. I fear one that would hold up to your needs would be significantly more expensive. There may be a role for an EGO and your Gravely. Take care.

The 10 amp batteries are $450 apiece. As for longevity, the batteries will probably retain acceptable charge as long as the mower lasts. Looking at the stamped deck, small frame, and general build quality, it'll be like most residential mowers where it gets beat to death long before the engine gives out.

Thank you for the review. I think I'll keep using gasoline powered mowers for a while. The only "updates" they need are simple things like changing the oil, filters, plugs, etc. and I enjoy doing the maintenance work on things. Take the blades. I don't buy new ones, I just use a grinder and sharpen the old ones. It's easy to balance them. Hang them from a nail in the wall horizontal. If one side starts to lower as the other side raises you know to grind a wee bit more off the side that's lowering. Perhaps in a few years when I see what kind of longevity electrics provide I'll re-evaluate. Right now my current riding mower is still running great and I bought it new in 2010. My lawn in only about 1.5 acres and I can mow it about 3 times on a 2.5 gallon tank.

Some of them have to be done every year. I run my batts on maintainers too, but 11 years of life for lead acid is ridiculous. 5 years, if you're lucky. Hell, batts don't last 11 years in a car. 30 mins for maint sure would be nice (I have one generator that I have to literally tear to bits to do the carb and plugs), but even 30 minutes is 30 minutes more than zero minutes.

The only part of it I have ever done anything to is replace the diaphragm/gasket. And yes, that brushed or brushless motor will wear out and then your stuck, and good luck getting that plastic crap back together. Also, read the actual comment. I NEVER said the battery lasted 11 years, I SAID in 11 years I've replaced the battery ONCE, meaning I replaced it in that time, not just now. The rider has two screws to turn 1/2 turn each to take off the breather cover, , one twist lock/pull to drain the oil and I need a spark plug socket to change the plug. Big deal. These are super cool, but I am not sure making them run off of the standard Ego battery packs were the best way to go. I understand they wanted to keep it consistent with their other tools and it's also nice that you can have a separate set of batteries to keep going (that is a large investment tho). But if they would have built the batteries into the mower they could have easily fit twice as many amp hours at a similar cost. There is a reason EVs don't rely on removable battery packs. They are built to get the most range while staying in the weight and space restrictions they have to work with. There are benefits to both, but most people who buy one of these want to be able to cut a full yard without interruptions and over $1000 for an extra set of batteries.

Interesting. I have had their self-propelled 21" mower for 4 years now. I've been thinking about the Zero-turn but two things I notice right off are no ROPS and no way to use a bagger. I need the power flow bagger on my JD X534 to handle all the leaves in the Fall and for those times when I need to pick up grass clippings because they are too long. That only happens when rain or something else prevents me from cutting before it gets to where I am cutting off 2 inches or more. Only 42" cut which is less than what I have now. Realistically you'd get about 36" inches of cut it you allow for some overlap when cutting. I see that you can only cut close on the left side, the deck doesn't extend out past the wheels on the right. Without a way to bag clippings and leaves I can't even consider this. Maybe they will come out with something soon. 19:50 "Professionals" don't necessarily do what's safest. Holding the deflector up could result in someone, maybe you wife or kids, getting hit by a stone or whatever the mower blade picks up and throws across the yard at 70 MPH. Hit the neighbors kid with a rock and you might be in court explaining why you had to lift that deflector and defeat one of the safety features of the mower. And it can happen. I caught a rock in the windshield of my truck while driving down the road that was kicked up by a mower. I saw it coming right at me but couldn't avoid it. Stopped and told the person mowing and their HO insurance paid for a new windshield.

@@mattkemp5765 I don't take the rops off but, I do keep them folded down unless I'm using it to carry around my weed eater on my commercial grade 61" Bad Boy Outlaw XP. I mow residential lawns for a living. I have had 2 of their self propelled 21inch mowers break down within 3 months of purchase. In the first case the wiring melted. They replaced it with a new one. The second failed yesterday in a similar way, I don't have the diagnosis yet. I was considering the zero turn but I no longer trust their quality.

it says "up to 2 hours" which means all 6 batteries with your settings set to save the most battery will give you the longest mow time. They didn't lie.
@jlamm22234432 жыл бұрын
I wonder if this mower pulls from all batteries at once, or unevenly. If the latter, maybe one could get more range by starting to recharge some batteries before all are out. In any event. I would think if one has other tools one could be recharging some, (while using only 4) or something like that. Anyway, I wonder if that is possible.
@ccattrn2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s possible, and maybe beneficial. I’ve never tried it.
@dragnridr052 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, but these mowers will handle your basic yards with no problems. Yards out in the country with field grass will be a tougher test. Our neighbor who owns his own lawn care business even says that field grass is a challenge for even gas powered mowers. So the real question will be can it handle 2 to 2 1/2 acres of field grass on the same battery capacity?
@bofkaycee19702 жыл бұрын
Nope Well, maybe 1-3 times. Not a whole season and don’t even think about mowing over four hours a day up and down a trailer ramp all day. Not gonna happen.

I have and use several EGO Lawn tools and am considering this mower. I love my EGO system and like the high quality of those tools. However, it seems based on this review that the mower is still at the bleeding edge of the technology sword. My concerns are: the deck bounce, sticker quality, and battery replacement cost (battery longevity not talked about here.) I hope to see an update HERE showing a few accessories, perhaps a bagger and if and how it affects performance. Thanks to Myers Woodshop for making and sharing.

as long as it doesn't use lead acid batteries, you don't need to worry too much about longevity.

..I think you’ve sold me on the EGO…:) On the rattling deck, I think you should cut an old bicycle tube, and wrap it like a rope, tightly around the hankers of the deck… then put zip Ty’s on the inner-tube, and just cut the zip-ties whenever you remove the deck..
@ccattrn2 жыл бұрын
Based on mine, I believe the deck is designed to “float”. However, I couldn’t agree more with need for bushings to quiet the jostling, ruins a relatively quiet ride.
