Love your video. I am growing bottle gourds for the first time and so far I've had one huge gourd grow on it and about 7 gourds turn yellow and die. I made the same mistake of accidentally cutting off a main branch instead of a yellow leaf. I'm also in the UK and the weather has been non stop rain and cool all July so everything is growing slowly. I actually cut off the male flower and shoved it into the female flower. I don't know any women who wear suspenders so just wire garden ties to hold up my plants. I will have to make a trellis for next year as I just used strings connected to a metal rod and a teepee I wasn't expecting the side growth.

Hi there, I’m growing Snake Gourd for the first time, I got the seeds from eBay, the plants are very healthy but not striped! And it looks like the gourd you are growing but slim, and the leaves are a light green, straight and a furry skin, but I guess whatever it is it will be edible!? Thanks for sharing your videos.

Enjoy your first bottle gourd. I’ve never tried to grow them because I couldn’t get the seeds. I grow loads of other pumpkins and squashes and gourds and the harvest is extremely good. Do you grow the white flesh Ash gourds? I have some small plants but worried if it’s too late for them to fruit. Any advice please?

@@MyFamilyGarden yes I have a green house. Ash gourds need more warmth so I’m keeping them in the green house and will be delighted to get at least 1 gourd. Also is it a good idea to buy Bottle gourd seeds now on Amazon for next year? UK garden centers don’t sell them. Thank you for your replies. Much obliged.

Hello Mothin. I thought that I would update you on my experiment growing potatoes in woodchip. I grew Maris Piper and Kestrel. Both 2nd earlies and gave excellent results, both planted end of March, both harvested last week. No watering at all during growing period. I had ant problems on the smaller bed. Strangely enough the end with Black ants didn’t really suffer, but the end with Red ants suffered badly with misshapen tubers, all look like they had been attacked by slugs but the damage was all on the outside. One or two of both varieties had slug type damage. And 6 out of 3 dozen seed potatoes just got fat but didn’t reproduce. Thanks for your advice, I am definitely going to grow them again next season. Oh, and the woodchip (app 18” deep) is all composting down perfectly. Unfortunately my Butternut Squash sown as a plug direct into woodchip is in a terrible state, but the plant in compost with woodchip as a mulch I’d fruiting already.

Thanks Graham for the feedback, really happy it worked out for you. I always get a bit nervous when I recommend something like this to people in case it fails for them. The ants must have found a nice dry spot and made themselves at home.
@grahamsibbert2412
@grahamsibbert2412 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Mothin. Yes, I thought the ants found a dry spot but was surprised because it’s very wet, no dryness at all so they must be a new breed of ant, Aqua-ants 😂😂. Hasn’t put me off though. Next year it’s replant and try again..

Hi forgot to ask whether you use any shop bought fertiliser on your plants. I have been told to use tomato fertiliser for all type of veg once the plants set fruit. Is this OK to do. If not what is the best compost please. Sorry I haven't followed u before that's the reason for my questions.

Hi I am a new subscriber. Many thanks for your very informative video. I am also growing a bottle gourd plant. But I don't have a greenhouse so had sown my seed indoors. When seedlings were ready to b planted out, the weather in May was still very cold n rainy therefore my bottle gourd fruits r still very small. Also I am growing my plant in the ground not pot. Is this OK or shall I grow it in a pot next year.
