I loop a soft round slip leash around my Poms' waists [rather than around their neck, to prevent trachea pressure] to both hold them on the table and keep them from sitting down. Works great. I wrap it around the crossbar overhead to adjust the length to keep the height just right. It's also handy to tuck their tail inside the loop to hold it out of my way while I work on their back end. I often use a push-button, self-cleaning, ball-ended metal brush for my weekly deep brushing. Much gentler with no possibility of poking their skin. Then I can finish off using the regular slicker brush on just the hair tips to fluff it out.

I have a Maltese Pomeranian. I'm so confused at whether to get him clipped or not. Every groomer I talk to acts surprised when I ask if he has an undercoat (which I'm pretty sure he has in some places). It makes me wonder if they just want my money. He gets so hot in the summer that I trim him with scissors myself being careful not to cut too close to his undercoat.

penny mabley I noticed that too she was yanking him around and brushing him violently. It also looks like the leash could choke him since pomeranians have sensitive tracheas.
@Toastiel5 жыл бұрын
nope, not at all. i work as a groomer during my holidays all the time and i can gurantee u that all the groomers here doesn't brush our customer's dog so harshly... well... maybe becuz we use wire brush which can hurt the dog if brushed too harshly, the woman here used a brush with a rounded end so it should not hurt at all (even though it may look very harsh) also i was thought to brush upwards right after coming in contact with the root of the fur (w/o touching its skin) in a quick motion. So i was kinda surprised when she brushed the dog harder than what i've seen before O_o edit: wait nvm, i went to her shop and found the brush she was using to not have a rounded tip so yes, it is wire... that could've hurt... but sometimes when a dog's fur is too thick it shouldn't be able to reach its skin(?) um... i'm pretty sure she has her own ways since speed is pretty important
@Toastiel5 жыл бұрын
@@amberjepsen7907 actually the rope thing is pretty normal in the grooming industry. I can gurantee u that the dog is not harmed in any way, its just a way for us groomers to keep the dog standing perfectly still (yes, little movements can ruin the whole round cut) If the dog is choking, it'll show signs like coughing, eyes turning red etc. But i can kinda agree that the cut she gave was a lil... Rushed?
@Toastiel5 жыл бұрын
@@amberjepsen7907 also if a dog tries to bite during grooming, it'll most likely be returned to its owner before you start to trim its fur. This grooming process is actually kinda normal but we just hold its head and butt up high, some dogs can even sleep with the rope still on its neck😅
@silentstellarechos5 жыл бұрын
Although the leash on the neck is considered normal for groomers, it probably shouldn’t be. For small dogs like poms and papillons the neck is so delicate and they can easily injure themselves from tugging. And other dogs have even been known to hang themselves if the groomer is not attentive.

I have a mini pomeranian, he weighs 7 lbs and 8 lbs is his expected max. He will be a year in May. He doesn't mind grooming and is a service dog. What would you recommend for his grooming tools. I had a baby comb which was just right for him but does not hold up for his coat. He completed the ugly puppy faze and we are now dealing with his adult coat. His father had a coat like Domino and mother had a sleeker coat that looks like she has pin curls. He is a heavy coat but more like Dominoes coat

This is a living creature in need of kind words, reassurance, and some treats! The woman was moving too quickly, stated she was tired, and hungry, and all this impatience was easily conveyed to the dog. And that contraption she shoved under him was not padded. Ouch. This should be as pleasant an encounter as possible. That clearly was not the goal. The goal here was get this damn dog out as soon as possible so I can eat and put my feet up. I wouldn’t want her working on me. I see far too many of these disturbing videos. She put this video out. She has to be prepared for all and any comments.

i'm speaking to the feathering down the front part of the knees. Blending shears, always. And those, only after the dog has been thoroughly line-brushed, washed, conditioned, blown out, and brushed again. I know you are not a show groomer, and are on limited time. I am an Aussie person, and only ever would dream of touching my dogs with clippers right under their tail nubs. I would sooner use a bolt-gun on myself than shave a double coated breed. EDIT- that MIGHT be a touch dramatic, lol, but I have friends that show Poms. That little guy has a lovely coat!
