Excess exposure to heat can damage heat sensitive compounds in the plant. Once u can smell the herb its ready. The release of the odor is an indication that the chemicals are released not just the volatile aromatics ss indicated by the colour of the solution. Roots n barks however may b a different case.
@dianadyer21529 ай бұрын
I'm a little confused. I was taught to steep herbs.. only herbs need boiling are the roots, such as cheney roots, sarsparella, etc... Maybe I'll advise others to boil for 5 mins... but I do agree with you. Once you can smell the herbs, it's ready because all the medicinal properties have been released.

I usually make a tincture with most herbs, you cut it up or blend it and put it in alcohol for 4 to 6 weeks. Only Irish moss I boil because I don’t get the same benefits when I make a tincture.

Okay, this lady is either a pharmacist or has done extensive studies in medicinal chemistry. She has given so many insights into Ram Goat Dashalong and other plants. She went into the pharmacodynamics, the pharmacokinetics, the mechanism of action, the indications, the contraindications and the efficacy. Hell, she even gave us a modicum of astrology! In other words, the lady knows her stuff.

@@myislandjamaica I use a dropper and drop a little on my tongue. Sometimes more than one drop depends on its strength. You can do a double tincture also. After its in the alcohol for a couple weeks, you boil a new batch and add it to the tincture. Make sure it's cool before you add it to the tincture so as not to destroy any of the benefits.
