In the US we call that tubing EMT and it comes in 1/2" like you are using, and 3/4" which is a lot tougher to bend. Anyway I found out that the cross tubes need to be 3/4" if you want something that will hold up over time and not bend in the middle. Unfortunately, I could not get my 3/4" EMT bends to come out right- even filling the tube with sand and capping off the ends did not guarantee a smooth bend without kinking. I did not try using heat as I only have Mapp gas or propane anyway. Nevertheless I will keep trying because that Barrington seat design is the best thing since sliced bread- especially for a recumbent trike. P.S. there are free plans from Recycled Recumbents to build this Barrington seat and even printable templates you can download and tape together to create a full size plan.

We'll like you I was inspired after seeing someone's build and I thought I'm going to give it try build my own trike . And it was not as hard as I first thought it would be . I've had so much fun building my trike a May now build a cargo bike as we'll tondo my shopping . Thanks for the support !

Good job with a stick welder. I used a whole pack of electrodes for my trike. How did your rim brakes on the front wheels perform? On the rear wheel they are pretty much useless. Did you find a material other than shade cloth for the seat?

Gotta love the homebuilt recumbents. So many styles and different configurations. I built a low racer. Fun project that turned out amazing. Now I wanna build another one. Recumbent cargo trike? Thanks for the video

Thanks for the information if your using mapp gas you need the extra big tip , i use mapp gas and a oxy bottle to get extra heat as it a LOT cheaper than renting the Acetylene and Oxy gas bottles here in Australia.

What kiind of tubing is this? In the US we have cheap? but easily available electric conduit tubing that is 1/2" diameter. That looks like what you are using, but electrical conduit is galvenized, which must be removed when a good welding joint is needed. I really admire your effort and am glad you put up this video! If I do this, I'm thinking of using 3/4" inch tubing for the extra stiffness. Do you think that would be better?

Good evening, I'm from Brazil. I don't understand English, and I really liked your bike... I wanted to understand how the axle that holds the front wheels was made, I would like details, do you have a video talking about it??? The axle would have to be in well reinforced steel??? Thanks and congrats on the bike.
@MyJessmatt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Fabio the axles that came with wheels was a heavy duty axles that is standard with racing/compation BMX bikes if are have a walmart type of bmx wheels they may not be strong enough. Try wheel chair wheels instead they are stronger. good luck In the near future I am looking at building other style's of bikes ,cargo style when i have time , we moving from one house to another and need to reno the other house to sell then i might have time to start on a cargo bike.

@@MyJessmatt Thanks for replying.... I really thought it would be unanswered.... I will try wheelchair wheels and look for a sturdy axle, I will make one exactly like yours, I really liked the model. Good luck moving house, I hope everything goes well.... and thanks again for answering me. I will subscribe to your channel and follow the other bike model when I have time to do it. Grateful

Yes I used gal tubing as that was all I could find on a Sunday morning at my local Hardware store here in Australia . I would have had to take time of work to go to a steel works shop to buy black steel around here as most are not open after work and few are open on a Saturday .

Estou no quarto banco caseiro. Todos ficaram muito pesados em meu Quadbike. Essa armação e o tecido devem ter pouco peso. Problema é que também peso bastante. Kkkk. Vou tentar copiar seu trabalho.

Yes, this is a necessary upgrade. Fighting with the first, unusual sensations after the bike, I felt the advantage of the bicycle rekambent. Not enough coffee and an interesting magazine. :)

Good advise. But I would like to correct the spelling, it is galvanizing. It comes from Luigi Galvani, the husband of Lucia Galeazzi. (Both with initials LG.)

After a few years, how is the seat holding up and is it still better than the original flat padded board? Great video series!

Over time i have found the the seat frame has started to bend and Im constantly readjustining the seat materail as it kept moving know mater how i tighted it, so its now gone. Now I have very little time to work on it as we have moved house and started to renovate the new house, may be when the reno is finished or I retire I can get back to the Trike!

Seat looks great! How has it been working out? Pretty much what I have been planning on doing for the Atomic Zombie Spirit recumbent that I hope to be building soon. What fabric did you end up using?
@MyJessmatt9 жыл бұрын
+torq21 The fabric is shade cloth but you could use canvas . Some times it does move around a bit but a quick tighten of the elastic rope firms it up.

Off the top of my head no all i can say is I would like it the be lighter , I can pick it up . I have changed the seat and Im looking at running the chain through a tube to do away with the little sprocket under the frame . I have not had much time to work on it as of late as we moved houses from the city to the country and i'm now remodeling/renovating a 1800s house so the trike is so far down my list of things to do at the moment.
