You really can’t beat American gymnasts for tumbling. Sure, the choreography could use work in many cases, but their sheer power is insane, a talented bunch.

@@zmtrackfan She didn't place well at Nationals, then was top 4 on the first day at trials, then was selected as an individual rather than for the team despite being part of the highest scoring team, then initially didn't make any finals during qualifications at the Olympics, and then ended up winning an Olympic silver. On top of already having suffered as a previous Olympic alternate and coming back to the elite level after doing NCAA (a very rare thing until recently). Definitely a rollercoaster for her.
@zb6070 Жыл бұрын
@@Zuranthium For clarity, nationals is only a stepping stone. Mykayla knew she had to peak at trials. From winter cup or classics (i forget which was first) ---> Trials, mykayla was improving comp to comp, so it wasnt shocking she did better at trails bc it followed her trajectory. Now team selection was controversial. Mykayla was a better fit for the team than grace with her vault, but tom solely went by all around rank order at trials and nothing else (even NBC commentators didnt understand grace's selection). There was also some controversial about Grace's last floor score (and grace only finished like 2 or 3 tenths above skinner after 2 days, whereas skinners vault/floor after 2 days was a point i think. but with that controversy you could point to skinner's final beam score night 2, but overall grace to me had more domestic inflation enough to cover the difference in their domestic overall scores). So mykayla went to olympics as an individualist which means she would not be in the team. In quali, she had ok vaults (better than most, but not great) and missed vault final due to the 2percountry rule. Ironically, her all around total was higher than grace/jordan (and higher than both in qf and tf). Skinner then retired, but due to simone getting twistie and withdrawing from vault final, skinner un-retired and entered vault final, winning silver medal.

She was fabulous in 2021, can you just imagine how great she was in 2016 and was only named an alternate? Speaks to just how much depth there is in the American women's gymnastics ranks over the last 20 years. ❤️🥰

I know Mykayla struggles with form errors, but I’m very surprised this routine didn’t land her in the floor final because of the sheer difficulty. Not to mention, the form errors weren’t super major. Regardless, this was an amazing routine and I’m so glad she got to live her Olympic dream

@@eiraremejeene it’s easy to say Jordan shouldn’t have been on the team now but she was the most consistent out of anyone else the entire year so they couldn’t not take her. She contributed a lot on the other 3 events

I always wondered why she never took out that wolf turn, she could almost never do it cleanly. She used to do a double arabian, which I miss seeing her do. I would’ve scored her 0.2-0.3 higher here, but at least everything worked out in the end, all the girls came home with a medal

yes xd she and Jade Carey were better than Chiles and Grace (i love boths but that was not their day), if she had not fallen on beam she will take Carey's spot on the AA final after Simone withdraw, and if she had better landings on floor, maybe she will be in FX final too. With Jade, Simone, Suni and Skinner, the team will have a great advantage on floor and vault (Simone, Jade, Myk) also with bars and beam (Suni, Simone and Jade on bars and Myk on beam)

Regardless what you think of her gymnastic ability, to gotta at last appreciate how incredible it srhat an 'ilder' gymnast who has very poor flexibility made it tonto an Olympi team twice. (us, I counting her time being a reserve)
@catinabox3048 Жыл бұрын
I do agree with what you said, but at the same time, you're comparing her flexibility to the women only. Male gymnasts are usually just as or even more inflexible than her, and they do both vault and floor, often times with harder moves, so it's clear that great flexibility is not a requirement for performing the skills. In fact, flexibility can increase the chance for injury on harder moves. Shawn Johnson also had way lower than average flexibility for a female gymnast, and she did awesome at the Olympics.

Her E scores continually hurt her throughout her career. In Tokyo, Simone, Jade, and Jordan all placed ahead of her on FX for qualifying. That was a really deep FX field in general that year, though the final was weird in that Rebeca, both Gadirovas, and Listunova all made mistakes that knocked them out of medal contentions. And they ended up giving out a double bronze. But even still, MyKayla wouldn't have come close to the medals based on her quals score. Those E deductions always got her...
