Dear Dennis, I couldn’t click fast enough when I got the notification that you had posted a video. I was riveted just listening to you describe your procedures. My husband had prostate surgery in early 2020 and the poor dear also brought home his catheter. He managed quite well on his own, not wanting me to fuss over him. His catheter was removed 10 days after surgery. He continued to wear protection. I am sad to tell you, though, that he passed away two months ago from pancreatic cancer at the age of 75. The past 8 months have been horrific. He was home under hospice care when he passed. My daughter and I cared for him with the assistance of home health care aids. As you can imagine, I feel especially empathetic towards you and am so glad you have such a positive attitude. Keep us informed as to how you are doing. I need a success story. Healing vibes coming at you! Jane

Thanks for the encouragement Jane. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. Two months ago isn't much time to work through all the stages of grief. I think you're brave to share your story. Time will eventually heal your wounds too. I hope you continue to make good progress. We both need to be patient and let nature take its course. Thanks again. -Dennis

its very difficult to know how to even respond to this. i will summarize my thoughts by saying you are a tough bastard (pardon my french, it seems appropriate). what you have been through (not even counting the complications!) is a very difficult ordeal. just trying to catch a bit of sleep in a hospital bed is always terrible. i thought 'dehydration' the minute you described being dizzy, i have felt similarly for the same reason before in innocuous circumstances and i dont travel without a 1L nalgene of water. the times you think 'i dont need water', you do, and youll pay the price. im delighted to see you back in action my friend and on the mend. your attitude as you tell these stories speaks of your resolve and it is inspiring! be well dennis!

Thanks Eric. I look forward to the time when I can look back on this with maybe a little humor. The pile of spiders was certainly a memorable moment. I do feel encouraged by the fact that only a week after two surgeries I was able to sit in front of a camera and talk about it. Is it "modern medicine" or "miracle medicine"? Maybe a little of both. -Dennis

You had a tough time guy. Second day out for me after turp. Totally different experience. Zero pain i never even felt the need for any type of medication. I was scared of a catheter as they are no fun but then again no pain just minor discomfort. Irrigation was not fun but easier than i expected. Took the catheter out after one night in the hospital. I was stressed over nothing no pain again whatsoever. Slight pink urine no clots. I am hoping for no complication but turp was so much easier than i expected. Self catherazation does not sound fun. At least in my case i was totally over stressed so far so good. Dont be afraid of this proceedure.
@MyKitchenVlog2 жыл бұрын
In my case, I went to my regular doctor when I was experiencing a little pain. He examined me and said there was nothing wrong. I trusted him. After a long period of minor pain, I went to a urologist. And thus began this ordeal. I probably let the problem - an overfilled bladder - go so long, I likely destroyed the muscles controlling it. The bladder can't push out urine. So I need to use a catheter to drain it. I don't know if my bladder will ever recover, but I'm reconciled to cathing for the remainder of my life if that's what it takes. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

I am glad you are OK Dennis, I know how you feel about not getting any rest. I was in intensive care for 4 days after a stroke. Let me tell you that having the stroke was nothing compared to the 4 nights I spent in intensive hell. I got no sleep, either a machine was beeping or nurses where in and out of the room. People screaming in other rooms and lights on 24/7. It got so bad I started hallucinating, I told the doctor about it and he told me" oh that is a common issue in intensive care" it's called ICU syndrome.

I had TURP done 6 weeks ago, used the new aquablation procedure (insurance may only cover if you have a very large prostate). I'm doing great. First couple of weeks after surgery were no fun, but I did heal / progress as planned. Just get a real good surgeon. Plan on taking at least 2 weeks off if you have a desk job and 4-5 weeks if you have a physical job.

Hi Dennis, sorry to hear your touch experience and glad it is over. I had the same problems as yours. 2cm bladder stone and TURP procedure. But my experience was totally different from yours. My doctor did both procedures within 2 hours and then I was wake. On my third day, I only had a tiny bit bleeding when I peed. On my third week, no bleeding at all. My doctor said I recovered fast than average patient. I wanted to share my experience so other people who plan to have TURP procedure have different perspectives.

@@MyKitchenVlog just be glad that your catheter wasn't too big of an issue for you. Last time I had to have one placed after abdominal surgery, the doctor accidentally sewed it in place. I wish you well in your recovery. And thank you for this video because it helps me to better understand and sort out what direction I might choose to take with my BPH. It also takes a lot of courage to make a video like this. Because as men we seldom discuss such issues. But I'm confused about self-catheterization after TURP. Because isn't the purpose of the TURP surgery to return our bodies to healthy urination? And, if so, then why are some people talking about a long period of self-catheterization after TURP? Finally, I agree with you and highly recommend United Healthcare Insurance to anyone who can get it. The benefits they provide their members are really first-class.

I also started out needing surgery due to large bladder stones...I was passing blood, but only after a CT scan, the sharp edged stones were found and thought to be cutting inside my bladder, thus the bleeding when I voided... the stones were removed via laser and I was sent home the next day.. All was well and a TURP was in the planning stages... approximately 5 weeks had passed whenever I started passing blood again whenever I voided.. Following another CT, the thought was that some sharp remnants of the stones were still in the bladder and causing the bleeding... Well, whenever the urologist went in and started looking around, what they thought were remnants of bladder stones were actually tiny blood clots.. What was discovered were two tumors that were cancerous...They were removed and I stayed in the hospital with a cath for five days... Whenever the cath was removed however, I had absolutely no problem voiding.. The TURP is still on hold for now and I undergo a cystoscopy every 3 months to try to catch any new cancer before it can penetrate the muscle walls of the bladder.. I'm coming up on one year now without any new cancer being found... Luckily, I didnt have to undergo any chemotherapy or radiation therapy. I'm 73 and in pretty good health and fortunately, I have good insurance.. The cost of surgery is out of this world.. I hope and pray you continue positively with your journey.. Wishing you all the best!!!

I'm 72 years old with clean health records ; never hispitalised before for any illness. I developed nocturia about two years back .had to urinate at least 5-6 times during night. My sleep was terribly disturbed. Urimax capsules had lot of side effects on me. Hence I had TURP on 16 December 2022.. it is unfortunate that that I still have the problem of urinating at least 5 times a night. Now after 4 months of operation ,I usually urinate 12-14 times a day. In addition I always get the urge to urinate .I find TURP to be a destructive surgery that would turn your entire life upside down. I have dry orgasm that will never give you the same sexual pleasure. My frank opinion is this surgery has to be done away with. It is pathetic that medical science has never so far been able to find a better alternative for TURP .

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, any surgery is a risk. We toss the dice, hoping for something better. I know two men who are doing very well after TURP surgery. I wish I could say the same. I can't empty my bladder without a catheter and sometimes it won't go all the way in. It destroys my sleep if I can't cath before going to bed. I'm still experimenting with new ideas, but the days of an easy pee when I need it are gone. -Dennis
