Great video! When I tried method 3, I seem to get a surface that is not as smooth as it was after sanding to 400(cocobolo pen blank). The end result seems to have ridges. Maybe this is the gumming result you referred to by using too much polish or possibly not moving my rag enough. Any ideas are appreciated. I’m going to sand off and try again making the two aforementioned corrections.

Yes when I have had that issue it has been because I was using too much polish. Also really make sure that your paper towel or rag is clean / that you have gotten all off the Yorkshire off. Let us know how it goes!! :-) Hopefully you will have good success this time around

To get back to this. Problem Solved! I appreciate your suggestions . Yes, I was using way too much. When applying a minimal amount to my paper towel, the problem went away. Thanks again for your help and education.

On the Mylands website, the instructions for the friction polish say apply, then wait for 5-10 minutes before applying friction / buffing. Have you tried that? Thanks.

Sometimes we wait between coats, but no, it is so dry here in AZ that we generally go straight to friction pretty quick. We might have to try this though. Have you gotten better results that way?

I contacted Mylands about this, they say that either method works, waiting for the polish to dry or buffing right away.

Thanks... does Menards or Loew's sell friction finish? I don't want to make it.

I'm not sure, but we sell it and we ship all over :-) Here is the link to it on our website www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/mylands-friction-polish?variant=31464147910739

Is friction polish durable enough for a pen? Thanks.
@TurnersTv6 ай бұрын
Yes! It is what we use on pens the most 😃

What speed is the lathe running for the sanding and application of finish?
@TurnersTv9 ай бұрын
Sand at 700-900 and then start the Yorkshire at 700 and increase to 1200 every little bit while using Yorkshire. Turn back to 700-900 for the friction finish. Hope that helps!!

You never buffed in the friction finish on the first two. Stupid comparison
