Terrain Tamer, a household brand in Australia is now in South Africa. We have partnered up with them to do some "REAL" testing on their products in Africa, where the 4x4 driving traverses so many different types of terrain, which will be a true test of their durability and strength.
In this episode we head off to the infamous Tankwa Karoo to test out how the suspension handles all the different terrain. Long corrugated gravel roads, rocky climbs, mountain passes and much much more. The main differences we notice with the parabolic suspension and the smart coils are comfort, there seems to be nothing too tough for the suspension and the comfort levels are at an all time high in the donkey.
We ran our tyres particularly hard to really get a good feel for the suspension, average pressures were from 1.6bar initially to around 2.4bar, which is far far far too hard for corrugated roads, but still the suspension shines through a clear winner. We are running the 500-700kg constant load in the rear. The high performance brakes are literally mind blowing, the braking on a very heavy land cruiser has never been this sharp, i can equate it to a high performance vehicle like my wife's mini cooper, which react extremely well on such a light vehicle. Needless to say with a vehicle of 3200kg, i no longer have a braking issue, they are responsive and on demand and extremely good.
One part i definitely love about what i do is where i get to go and what i get to see during all of my adventures, the scenery in the Tankwa Karoo is simply breathe taking, so sit back relax and enjoy this adventure with us.

Great countryside. Reminds me of Australian outback in many ways. I am just setting up my Troopy and have gone with Terrain Tamer paraboics on the rear and Smart Springs on the front. Glad to hear your positive feedback, as they are an unknown for me (always had TJM/ARB suspension previously). I went with KONI RAID 90s all round for shocks. Also - your shredded tyre incident might have been lessened if you had tyre pressure & temperature monitoring, you might have got some early warning that you were losing air and stopped to investigate. Thanks for the video - David

You're going to love the parabolics, truly changes the ride like you won't believe!!! I agree a TPMS would have helped, but guys just getting started don't always have everything yet, as with anything it's a slow process kitting out a vehicle as you know, so in time I'm sure he'll have one. Enjoy your Troopy mate, best vehicle around 😎🤟🏻

@@MyLifeinAfrica Thanks. Today I cut the roof off it! That was pretty nerve wracking, to say the least. Am fitting an Alu-Cab Hercules RTT to make it simple to set up camp. Never done anything like that before but it wasn't too bad. Has taken me all day though.

Thanks for sharing. I would like to know if that clicking sound when you are driving comes from your parabolic suspension ?

Definitely not, it comes from the GoPro banging around in the casing and stones hitting it, the suspension is completely quite and has no noise at all, thanks for watching...

Thanks for the awesome feedback yet again Mick. You definitely need to visit Africa, you know what they say, if you go to any continent on the planet, come to Africa twice! The shocks are the TGS Expanded Body Series, the part number is TGS12491, the coils are rate up to 100kg each, part number on the Smart Coils is TTCS-2305T.

@@MyLifeinAfrica sorry to be a pain. How have you found those shocks since doing the video? I'm not a big fan of twin tube shocks as apparently they suffer fade over rough corrugations. I'll be getting the 300constant parabolics with similar smart coils but I not confident on those shocks. I am.leaning towards the Dobinsons IMS or MRR mono tube shocks. Regards Mick
@MyLifeinAfrica
@MyLifeinAfrica 3 жыл бұрын
No problem at all man, honestly... what corrugation??? They're amazing, I have the 700kg constant parabolics in the rear! I've tested these shocks on a few different types of terrain and honestly I cannot fault them at all. I would easily put them in again without hesitation!
@michaelnugara1
@michaelnugara1 3 жыл бұрын
@@MyLifeinAfrica Great thanks for the feedback mate. Really appreciate it. So to confirm those parabolics are the 300 to 700kg I believe. That's what TT recommend I get, but I'm edging towards the 300kgs as they may flex more and I don't carry as much weight as you do. Having said that, your leafs flex nicely. I'd really like to know how they behave when the vehicle doesn't have a load on like my 76 series most of the time.
@MyLifeinAfrica
@MyLifeinAfrica 3 жыл бұрын
So i have the 700kg constants and i am currently extremely light weight, all the heavy roof items are currently off. I can tell you that the ride is soft and still completely comfortable and enjoyable! Loaded or not they still feel great, is there no possibility you can test them out there at all? I can tell you that once you have driven them you will not be concerned about getting them, you will be convinced about them! The amount of flex and comfort that the ride provides is absolutely crazy and different to all others, i went from an 11 leaf pack to 4, the weight saving there alone was crazy!

Yeah definitely use AC in the donkey, but i always drive with my window open so i guess it is pretty pointless using it, but nothing quite like a nice breeze even if it doesn't cool you down. I have found that if you do not open the window and have the AC on that you end up battling more with the heat than rather acclimatising to it.
