Mylites 2. Identical to BCW Mylar, but cheaper. Finally a channel that covers and explains this. Thank you!

A better side by side comparison would have been to use 2 of the exact same book in a side by side. Put one in each kind of bag and see which one looks nicer. More vibrant. A lot of what draws attention from collectors in certainly eye appeal. Great video. Thanks

Have you tried the 3rd option made with OPP plastic, which is supposed to be very similar to mylar (BoPET)? I was bout to buy some Mylite2, but when I saw the price I figured I'd wait and do some research first. IT seems like these OPP bags look and feel better than traditional polypropelyne, but are WAY cheaper than either BCW or Mylites bags made with BoPET plastic?
@JernosComicsPopCulture
@JernosComicsPopCulture 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! I have never bought any, but I have had comics in thinner OPP bags and although the bags tend to have a clearer look than regular poly bags, I am not much of a fan with their durability. Many I have had have split easily down the side of the bag. I was planning on buying come Comic Pro Line OPP 2 mil, but never got around to it. Did you purchase the OPP and if so are you liking them? Also, when it comes to buying Mylar, I highly recommend going with bulk, because you save so much money. I make one purchase with my tax return money in the spring, and then I am set for the year. I ultimately think 4 mil Mylar is a waste of money, and the Mylite + bags literally are only a few cents cheaper than the 2's.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture How many do you buy at a time? A local shop to me, Comics Elite, has Mylars for 50¢ each! I don't think I can compete with it. I think I'm just going to keep buying individuals from them. What do you think?? It was really nice getting some fullback boards when I bought some mylars on eBay. The Seller Was already selling me a book in a Mylar & top-loader, so I asked how much for additional. I only got 5 total off them. Fullback boards really do make a difference I've seen.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture Once i started using Mylar, I will NEVER use a polybag again. Cheap pieces of crap that eventually yellow, stiffen, get wavy, or crack. I have started experimenting with the following product and I hope it works out. I only put comics I collect to read and store, not someday grade for my "pro" collection.. they are called Maxlites by Max pro ( Maximum protection ) More expensive than Polybag, less expensive than Mylar. Super clear, like Crystal Clear. I just hope the material is good and does not ruin books or get gross like Polybags.

@IMRavnos

@@KairosEnigma So far so good, however, it might take years for any signs of issues. I prefer them over poly, but Mylar is the best. My advice, get your Mylars from E.Gerber directly. It is a pain and takes a while, but the cost is so much lower than buying from a retailer. Google their website and select price list. for an example, Standard Mylites 2 are $44.50 for 200, they sell for around $20 for $50 on Amazon and Ebay. Sadly, you need to order enough to make it worth while as the minimum shipping charge is $15.00 however, if you know you need a bunch and want to just make one big purchase, you will save a ton. www.egerber.com/catalog.htm

Great question to ask! It does get a bit complicated having to file and organize so many different types of supplies. Of course, silver age books are wider than modern, and golden age books are wider than silver. SO... technically you can use silver/gold 7 3/4 inch bags for all of your books. The only issue I have with that is that modern books could slip around in the bag. This would annoy me just in terms of how the book would display, but it could also leave wear and tear on the book over time, dinging up edges. My recommendation, if you were to use 7 3/4 for modern books, is to make sure you have a board that fits perfectly from left to right in the bag, so the fit is nice and tight. That way, the book would sit tighter and not slide around as much.

2 questions 1. which brand is better with the regular current bags 2. which boards should I use for current comics full of halfback?
@JernosComicsPopCulture
@JernosComicsPopCulture 5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I believe the brand doesn't matter when it comes to Mylar bags. Others will disagree with me, but I do believe them to be almost identical in look, feel and quality. As for boards, the best quality is indeed fullbacks. They are the best in terms of protecting your books long term. I personally have never used them though because they are too expensive for my budget currently. Also, I do not like how think halfbacks are, so I do use BCW boards, even though those will yellow more over time. If I had a better spending budget, I would use fullbacks without question.

Thanks for watching! Mylites is just E. Gerber's brand name for their Mylar bags, so yes, essentially, they are all the same thing, it's just difference in brand. As for 2 mil or 4 mil, I personally do not like 4 mil. The reason is because they are very bulky, which means less books will be able to fit in one box, and I don't find that they present as well as the 2 mil. I think the 2 mil have a perfect weight and feel to them. Keep in mind, as 2 mil bags are already extremely expensive, 4 mil are twice as much as that. I'm no expert on how much more protection 4 mil gives, but I just don't think the 4 mil are worth the cost.

I can't find anywhere on BCW's site where it says their Mylars protect against UV rays. Mylites are 99% UV proof... If you want to order them just call Egerber. The only down side is there is a minimum $100 order. So maybe get a few of your friends on board... (the 4's aren't worth it, i got some they are too rigid and also no rigid enough. I recommend the Mylite 2's and for VIP (current age) books put them in a 5mm silver age toploader.

Before a Comic goes in they Look Fine. I could tell the Right Side was the Mylite and it Absolutely Shows even in your Video.. For Presentation its Into the Eye of the Beholder... What your Missing in this Video and you Hit it almost but iIts the Qaulity of Protection. Mylars are Not 100% Water Free and Mylites are Acid Free.. Not Even at All... But Costs certainly Play into a Collectors Decision... Also I would like to mention Mylar Should be Changed Out about Every 5 to 7 years which in the Long Run can Add Up where as Mylites Hold Up in Prevention to Give the Life of your Collection almost Twice that of Mylar.. Depending on Storing Conditions Mylar can be more Harmful to a Long Term Investment.. Just Saying... Love to you Brother

You know I was questioning that when I started watching it myself, but honestly, I don't think my book choice was the best! lol. I think the white cover helps. Also, the hulk is a nm and the Ms. Marvel isn't so crisp, so I'm wondering if that affects the presentation. I think I have to do a vid showing two NM books off side by side. I just started filming in HD so I'll zoom super far in!
