I'm a writer and my advice to new writers is that making the story as you go will make the story more random and can become confusing. You want to DEFINITELY plan ahead, it makes the readers become more creative and immersed into the story because they try guessing what happens next, but that can't happen if you as the writer doesn't even know what happens next and it makes it more boring. So take your time while writing, I've been planning my story for 8 years now and I'm getting closer and closer to publishing it everyday. I've gone through a lot of trashing chapters, rewriting chapters, creating characters, trashing old characters, it's a long process but it'll be worth it because the amount of thought and planning put into it

Hi, I just wanted to add that it’s important to make characters’ parameters *before* writing the script, or any of the events that take place in the story. I have trouble thinking about what goes on in each chapter, so I write out the timeline of important turning points before I write each individual chapter.

Some times I write my stories like movie scripts ex: 15 yr old boy: "I see you hiding over there" (no answer) 15 year old boy: "come out or I'm calling the guard." 8 year old girl: "ok, ok. I'm sorry. I just wanted a piece of bread for my little brother." then I'd go back in with details like Ken heard a noise outside and when he looked out his bedroom window, I notices one of the bushes in his yard moving. He quickly calls out the window but receives no answer. Ken thinks that it might have been a rabbit until he notices a little girls head peak up and quickly dive into another bush close by, slowly making her way through his garden. Curious, Ken runs down stairs to confront the little girl, only to find out she's a hungry orphan.

Can you do a video explaining how you develop environments/backgrounds for your manga/comic? I’m starting a comic and I’ve been thinking after I’ve gotten my script done and as I’m starting the story board, I don’t know how to do backgrounds. Do I plan them on a separate page(s)? what about layouts to the characters house? Where do you look up your references/guilds for house/environment inspiration? I want to have these in check before starting the final product.

Being both an artist and a writer is challenging and hard to balance. If you're starting out a new story/manga and you have an itch to draw - start fleshing out your characters. Write a short characterization paragraph about the character, draw a sketch, then think of the traits, mood, expressions. Try to simultaneously write and draw that character and you'll be complementing both, adding context to both visuals and personality - treat the whole process as a single module. Then, when you have an inkling about how your characters looks like and what they're about - it's much more easier to dig into the script.

that's sososo helpful !! Thanks ! I started my script 2 months ago, and I didn't do much researches abt the script format or how the comics process works... i had to redo it all over again, and fix it ALL w a simplified script, bc it was too confusing and hard to put into drawing... also, I forgot to plan the plots, the characters ups and downs, their main traits, their characteristics etc... I've never written a script before lol 😭

Thank you for this video, writing in a script format is what i was supposed to be doing, makes so much sense now. You're drawing a story you make. Your explanation is on point. I used to be the kind of artist that had a friend write the chapters for me or even team up with a script writer. And that was me being inpatient. After some years I realized how great is to take the time to create a whole universe and play God with my character's destiny. Of course drawing is a big motivator, so I do the character's model sheets while writing the script, that helps me visualize the story better and satisfy my urge for drawing, having their postures, emotions, body comparison sheets between characters, makes it easy when you move to story board and draw the comic or manga. My challenge is to be fully able to translate what I see in my mind to reality, bcs I see all animated instead of frozen frames. Also my stories have many layers so I must be careful to avoid holes in my plot, that's super hard! I'm a former animator, so patience is key, love all stages from your work. It worth it in the end when you see how much you accomplished with consistent dedication 😊.

I loved your advice Lizbeth. I too type up my chapters but like to put things in past tense. I love how you started the video. I've had those problems too. You're such a great encourager. Can't wait for the next video.

A curios thing on manga that i kinda want a tutorial is coloring~ ,i mean you kinda can show like the color of the chaters color palet (red suit ,blue eyes, hair etc) on the cover for exemple but in the pages are black white and grey ,how that go or say even when for the story you need a color say plot "have to find the red box or something" Like how is color translet in manga work
