Old video but for anyone seeing this in the future, a tip for these Amazon Fire Tablets: The problem is almost always the charge port or battery. Honestly, 95% of the time. I've fixed many and all were one of the two. I've fixed multiples where simply resoldering the charge port "fixed" it. I use quotes because the only fault is that Amazon builds these things as cheaply as possible and the solder broke the connection to the port, not allowing it to ever charge beyond 1%. A few others had bad batteries like this here in the video and, tbh, a reppacement battery is about as much as a new tablet (by design) so you may as well buy a new tablet unless you have a spare battery on hand. To end, those Fire Tablets are made with toothpicks and bubblegum. They aren't made to last long but when they do go it's usually an easy fix. Amazon just expects you to buy another by making 75% of the tablets cost come by way of the battery alone.

Thank you Vince for the tip about the lithium battery charger. I have a few MP3 players that might not now need new batteries.
@Stunex4 жыл бұрын
I'd strongly suggest replacing them anyway, there's a reason why most devices won't charge a lithium battery below a certain percentage. It's not because they think there's no battery nor is something wrong with any component but because charging a "dead" lithium battery may cause the battery to short itself and ignite the lithium.

Hey Vince. An old colleague of mine in IT did a lot of work on iPhones/iPads. From time to time, I've helped him out with some of the simpler tasks and because of that I've learned a few tricks. Most of the time, when an iPad would loop like yours do, a simple restore would do the trick. However, in a small number of cases iTunes would give an error like the one in your video. When that was the case, we would use a MacBook to restore the iPad instead. Apparently MacOS (or possibly the iTunes version for MacOS) behaves differently in a way that makes it possible to restore a device, even when it loops. Even though we only used Windows in the office, we had a Mac hidden in a drawer specifically because of this. This will of course not help you in case of hardware failure, but from what I've seen in your video, it's definitely worth a try, assuming you have a Mac available in some capacity. EDIT: I forgot that the iPad flashed red, which I do believe means hardware failure, so if you don't own a Mac, it's probably not worth looking for one to borrow.

Because iTunes is unable to read the serial number from the iPad it would point to be being a NAND issue. Better repair shops will have a NAND programmer to hand but judging by the way this iPad was put back together it was not sent to a good repair shop. Any decent repair centre will still put a device back together properly even if they deem it not repairable or not economically viable. Missing screws and not reattaching the battery is sloppy work, fixable or not, and it doesn’t seem like any attempt was made to re-ball or reprogram the NAND which to any decent repair centre would be the obvious thing to do. Apple devices can be really finicky and often using a different USB cable or a different USB port on your computer can get a restore working. I also had an iPad recently that refused to be restored with iTunes on Windows with a similar 4xxx error code but restored first time on a Mac so it’s always good practice to try those steps if possible before anything else.
@AdamKeyz5 жыл бұрын
@@ItsNorman Yes that's right but I was under the impression in this case that the serial number was not being read at all, not just during DFU mode. Forgive me, I was playing a game while watching this. I'll have to go back and re-watch the video to see if the serial was being read in recovery mode.
@AdamKeyz5 жыл бұрын
@@ItsNorman Yes indeed and its actually good that the checks are made before an update is pushed as it can keep a device from being bricked completely but Apple really needs to put more effort into being more specific with their error codes and showing the user what exactly has gone wrong. We all know that will never happen though as they continue to fight the right to repair. They will always give as little information as possible to stop people from repairing products themselves.
@Honeypot-x9s5 жыл бұрын
If it can boot then it’s not a flash memory issue at all, as the very image Jon display comes from the NAND. I repaired 1000s of iPads and this is simply someone soft bricked it and the device failsafed.. all you need to do is to default factory unit recovery mode it in iTunes.. tons of guides online. If it was a flash memory issue then it wouldn’t even display anything, I seen it on extremely rare occasions, and what happens is backlight comes on but nothing else, then boot cycles on and off rapidly.. I never personally recovered a complete failure and I would say if it’s not showing anything but backlight, get another opinion maybe missed something. But usually we eliminated display and other hardware so.. I said maybe 10% chance if rescuing such a failure if your lucky. If it was a boot rom issue then it will show Apple logo, then within 5 seconds usually just cuts off and reboots.. boot rom issue isn’t a flash memory issue normally. It is usually corrupted portion of an update.. getting out of this isn’t impossible but very hard, sometime you can still DFU it and recover.. I say 60% change of recovery. Few techniques you can use to interrupt the boot looping like attempting DFU in different combinations just enough to lock it out of looping can trigger it to fall in standard recovery mode and you can use a modified iTunes or a custom tool to force install the correct IPSW software files.. This style of failure is stalled a failsafe, happens when during install of firmware something goes wrong during less critical portions of the update.. battery died, cable got ripped out if was updating via iTunes, or just a corrupted file so how got installed.. this specific type of failure where shows the iTunes logo and cable means you have 90% chance of recovery using DFU mode recovery.. still a very small chance DFU won’t work. I only had it fail a few times and those few times are because of a bad battery not accepting a charge during recovery and/or SoC consuming more power then being delivered over USB, it’s very rare usually limited to well out of date devices at this stage.

Don't be too quick to put yourself down mate. Just because someone does something for a living, does not make him in any way a true "professional". There are many dodgy repair shops that only look for superficial clues to faults, to find an easy fix. If it's beyond their "expertise", they then tell the customer it's a fault with something very general like the logic board or screen assembly, in an attempt to fish for an opportunity in which the customer will say "yeah, go ahead, I'll pay the price you quoted, just get it fixed.". Dodgy shop changes out the entire logic board with another scrap unit, problem solved. Change the screen assembly with a 3rd party brand new one, problem solved. Mister Dodgy gets the dosh and 5-star feedback, when in reality he only knows how to swap parts out. Whereas YOU, my friend, goes through a logical testing process, using multimeters and soldering irons in your attempts to isolate and fix the issues. That is what a TRUE REPAIR PROFESSIONAL does.

I've found personally that on occasion if a lithium battery is just left without any charging for a while like months or years the charge drains low enough to where it just doesn't except charge and you just have to jump start it, I guess when the charge gets too low then it the charging Circuit doesn't think there is a battery and so it doesn't send a charge to those leads

I’ve heard this and there’s special chargers u need to use that u plug the battery directly into to trick the battery into taking a charge then it will start working again but in the devise there’s safety modes that won’t allow a dead battery to charge
@Stunex4 жыл бұрын
This is a very bad idea tho, the reason a dead lithium battery doesn't charge is not because the circuit thinks there is no battery. The cells are degrading (copper dissolves into the cell) when discharging to a critically low level. Charging it up causes the dissolved metal to crystallize again and if you are unlucky those crystals might pierce the membrane within the cell separating the leads. This may cause a short within the cells of the battery and cause the lithium to ignite. It's not guaranteed to happen but I'd strongly suggest replacing a jump-charged lithium battery as soon as possible and not trust it anymore (aka don't leave it in something unattended).

@@Stunex wow this is some very useful insight I didn't know about, but you have to admit that it can be a usefull method for diagnosing the issue and since I've done this a couple times on different products I'd say its not the riskyest thing to do but ya know that I know the risk of ignighting the lithium I'd definitly say that if this method works then a battery replacement is your best next step

You think that the iPad screen is hard to get off, but apples mobile devices screens come off fairly easy. With a little bit of heat and some sort of pick or tool, you can slice the glue right in half

If you got to recovery menu with iTunes plug you should be able restore it to factory recovery and it updated it too latest iOS though iTunes Store. If it doesn’t work could be bad iPad lighting cable try another one see if it connects to your iTunes on windows or Mac. Good Luck 👍 Bud.

NAND for sure, that's why serial number was N/A cause it's written on that chip.

Well, I have an iPhone 4 stuck in recovery mode loop even after restore. Strange thing Is that there were no errors. Although it did get error 4014 which is the same as error 4013. It had its serial number showing up.

The solder thing of the charging ports on the ipad only applies to some ipad minis. I got an iPad 4th Gen motherboard with 2 broken connectors and im certain that the charging port wasn't soldered.

Hi @mymatevince What is the liquid flux that you use, the magic one that connects the solder to the circuits when you spread it across, I've seen you use it on another video, but i can't find that video, all the flux I can find is the paste in a syringe. But it doesn't look the same as yours.

Maybe it's exclusive to the UK 💷 🇧🇾.

Very late comment mate vince but just incase you not familiar sometimes if the LCD screen for any apple device or the battery isn't genuine simply remove the screen completely restore using iTunes update should complete with no errors. If that didn't work try different battery then update with screen completely removed just incase it a replacement screen. This won't help here now but maybe come in handy for future. You probs already know this but figured I'd comment as I've had a few apple devices mostly screens only ever had one apple device what it was battery stopping it rest I've just removed screens updated via pc iTunes. Not sure with the newer 2019 2020 2021 product as I don't touch apple no more lol.

Good morning Vince, what a nice try on apple iPad mini 2 WiFi... Well I guess its a u2 chip issue because it's not working at all now but it may be the nand flash memory chip also but you need to get a u2 chip new first and flash it then try again and if not working then do the same with the nand flash memory chip afterwards... Apple is amazing but too difficult and beautiful
