They completely refuse to allow you to have the joy-cons connected in TV mode. On the home menu, it just makes this "you can't do that" click and when you connect them it doesn't make the snap sound, and it puts the controller sync screen up if you're in a game

I realize it "saves money for Nintendo" but did they really not think this through as a bigger problem? Of course Nintendo is going to sell lots of units to adults but I'm sure there's an extremely giant mass of these going to kids.. why not use metal so the constant use wouldn't do this? I'm hoping they end up changing the JoyCons in the future to use metal instead. I take good care of mine but generally kids are going to be kids.

I bought the Switch ASAP (meaning in a few months), and I treated it with care, but I play ARMS and Super Mario Odyssey a lot, so I use the straps a lot, which wear down the locking mechanism. The design of the Joy-Con has not changed since the Switch was released.

The part on the joy-con is plastic so that it won't wear away at the console. Things like this are designed to fail in this way because its better to repair or replace the cheaper part. USB cables are also designed in this way because it's easier to replace the cable than the port on the device

Battleofawesome don't use metal. That will also damage the console. Things like this are designed so the easy to replace part will break before the hard to replace part, and using metal can wear away at the metal rail on the console. Also, I don't think metal can be 3D printed, it has to be molded or machined

This comes from the joy con straps. I think since they fit on so tight and feel like they're gonna break the joy con when you take them off, which is kind of a sign why the joy cons stop fitting on tight. They get a chip in the locking mechanic ( it breaks part of it off), that's why. So just stop putting on the joy con straps
@stephnicole3078 Жыл бұрын
@Techtronis hah! I had that same thought when I bought my OLED yet here I am. I’ve never once even used the straps. I baby my Switch too and yet hardly a year after purchase, I have very loose joycons somehow. The only thing I can figure is that maybe it’s bc I use my Switch in handheld mode 99% of time. I hope you have better luck than me with your OLED.
@stephnicole3078 Жыл бұрын
@Techtronis I do the same however I think from the joycons slipping off when gripping too hard during intense gaming sessions, (lol) they’ve just loosened over time. Really should be able to handle that considering it’s a gaming console intended for kids primarily.

A combination of the tape + glue methods with the addition of you being very careful about applying / removing the Joycons seems like it would be pretty stable and would last a while. I'd go that route if I couldn't afford new Joycons as I also lack access to a 3D printer. I did it on my 6 days old Nintendo Switch OLED that has this issue. Well I did the tape one because I needed to not cost much money, and I'm afraid breaking the joycons by taking it apart. The tape method is the best option

Hey Vince. Love your Videos dude. Just wanted to ask your advice since you seem like you know a thing or two. I am having issues with my right joycon constantly desyncing when in docked mode with joycons detached. I have tried a lot of things including factory reset, controller update, complete disconnect of controllers, moving away from other appliances etc. Just wondering if you had any ideas short of sending back? Thanks a lot.

Hi there, thanks for the nice comments. Spawnwave did a KZbin video when the Switch came out where he added a wire in the Joy-Con and it increased the signal range. Hopefully you will find it on his channel. Maybe measure how far it is when it disconnects and then if possible take it into another room and do a range test again just in case you can pin point the source of interference :-)

I personally would recommend putting tape on the Joy-Con, rather than the Switch, so that if you get new Joy-Con at some point in the future, it slides off easily when the button is pressed. You can probably find some [insert Joy-Con color here] tape so that it doesn't stand out, or cut black tape to the same width as the Joy-Con rail so that it looks natural.

I’m glad to know it’s a joy con problem rather than a problem with the console itself . It’s a lot cheaper to get new pair of joycons worst case scenario than to get a whole new system .

The tape seems to have fixed my problem, at least for now. I was getting constant disconnect issues when playing games that didn't require a lot of fast inputs, like JRPGs and strategy games, so I wasn't moving the controllers a whole lot. But after putting tome electrical tape, voila! I managed to play 5 Smash matches in a row and no connection issues whatsoever. The right Joy-con (the one with the issues) can still be removed without pressing the buttons and it still disconects if I move it up a bit, but it's tight enough that even more intense play sessions don't provide enough force to do so. What I'm worried is that the tape is getting a bit wrinkled due to how tight it is, so I might need to replace it from time to time. Not a huge issue to replace it, but I don't want to damage my console or controllers because of this. Thanks for the tip anyways!

If your warranty has expired, I think the best thing to do is to buy a metal replacement for the lock buckle pieces (which are quite cheap) or perhaps 3D print one out of a stronger material. With that said, an quick, easy and cheap solution that I thought of while watching the video that could potentially work is adding a velcro strand to either the actual Switch unit or the Joy Cons (I'd say, probably in the middle of each piece). While adding the velcro strand on both parts of the unit would definitely make a solid connection, I doubt the Joy Cons would slide very smoothly and it could be more on a hassle than anything else, in the end (could still work, though). However, by putting one half of a velcro stand (either the "hairy side" or the "hook side") on the Joy Cons or the Screen unit, it could reduce the friction considerably, being somewhat thick and offering a rugged surface. It would probably be a snugger fit, too. The concept is very similar to the "tape solution" but a bit more durable and efficient... in theory. Note that as I'm writing this, I haven't tried it myself but I'd say it's worth a shot. **Edit:* Maybe putting the same side of a Velcro stand (again, it could be either side) on each part of the Switch would work even better.

I just dont get it how everyone is doing that. Are you guys like, throwing it against a wall 20 times a day? I have no problems AT ALL. I took my switch to so many vacations and play much on it. I even took it to the beach in italy. Nothing is broken, no lags at all. I dont get it. I think Nintendo did a perfect job there.

@skitsyn89894 жыл бұрын
I actually discovered a new method myself, ironically while watching this video. Take a safety pin, and the needle part should be long and thin enough to get into the small space, and just stab the needle into the joycon pin, UNDERNEATH the worn part. This sort of flattens it out, and accidentally solves the problem. I did the same drop test, but I have not tried exerting force into the joycon as I dont want to undo my fix, but it does seem to solve the loose joycon problem.
@CaiaMusic5 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend that everyone that is weary about this issue to press the button down hard when you are pulling them off AND putting them on. The reason the joycons click(the non-artificle click) is because the locking mechanism scrapes the side of the switch. If you press the button down when placing the joy cons ON the switch then it doesn't scrape the lock. If you get into the habit of doing this then you can fix the joy con issue. I have the two matte red joy cons and i would hate to get this problem. Remember to hold down on the button when taking them off and on.

luckily nowadays there are metal replacements I'll get some soon for my loose ones (just had my bro the drift fixed on my left joycon I wanted to do both the locks on both joycons and the left stick at the same time but luckily mine aren't that loose and my bro want's to try building joycons from scratch with metal locks anyway)

I haven't even had my Switch for 2 weeks and I dropped the joy-con grip and damaged the latch on the left side. Luckily not as bad as this. One thing I would say is that if your controllers start to come off without the button being pressed in, don't keep taking them off without pressing the button in as you'll likely make the issue worse as you continue to wear away at the latch. For me, there's a spot where it looks like the metal cut away at the plastic and made it so the metal rail is now basically able to push the plastic latch out of the way. Also, it's designed so the failure is on the controllers, because they're easier to repair or replace than the console is. USB cables, for example are also designed to fail like this because replacing the cable is easier than replacing the port.
