Out Bushcraft camping in really cold weather. Hands down the best adjustable pot hanger ever. Cant believe I didn't think of this before. It's so simple. And stable. It handles a load better than the adjustable knot slider I usually do. I'm very fond of simple and fast solutions so this one is a keeper. (until next time when I'm bored with it and make another lol)
A word about cooking in the wild. As with the hanger, also the cooking needs to be simple and not to time consuming. When I make a soup in my kitchen at home I fry veggies and meat, spice up and roast the flavor before adding the fluid. So what happens if you just put a frozen block of mince and thaw it directly in fluid and then add raw veggies? I've never done that before so I was very surprised I didn't notice much difference. Its still a hundred times better than freeze dried food. I have seen people who brand themselves wilderness chefs and release books etc on the subject. IMO I have not seen them simplify things. They cook exactly like in a modern kitchen. And you would need a helicopter to get their cast iron kitchen gear with seven pots, iron tripods, chains etc out there. Its rustic back porch cooking really. So this has been something I wanted to make happen. Wilderness cooking that works on real hikes in all seasons. To use only the fire, a small lightweight frying pan and some vessels. Steel only except my coffee pots. Simple and as fast as possible. And some people cant understand how you can bring a whole chicken out there. It's added weight sure. But first day of the hike you are very strong and you eat it the first evening. Then the pack feels so much lighter the next day. I mostly start with the heavy foods and work my way down to freeze dried and noodles the last day. I always bring freeze dried but I don't shoot all my meals for you guys. The reason I started with this was that I had a problem with acid reflux on my longer hikes up north in my 20s. It was the freeze dried food. My first step was to bring 5 carrots wrapped in a cloth on the next hike. I mixed them with the freeze dried meals and felt a small improvement. That and some fresh fish made a big difference. I can understand the ultralight hikers don't want to carry potatoes and meats, but it does not take much to improve the food if you try out a method that works individually.
I slept under the stars the last night. Mil-tec lightweight rain poncho directly on the snow, then Canvas Lavvu folded, thermarest neoair xtherm, reindeer skin (very lightweight). And this time I mixed the Carinthia Defense 4 with a 400 gram marmot goose down summer bag inside. I was very warm down to -22C! Once down in the bag I realized I forgot my wool socks in the backpack hanging in a tree. But I didn't need them! Great combo and it packs down just as small in the compression bag with the marmot inside. But let's never forget sleep system success is always good insulation from the ground. Thanks for watching!

Bushcraft is a skillset. It's not mandatory as a bushcrafter to go naked to the woods and trying to survive. To do that every week is a unrealistic fantasy. The way I see it, bushcraft skills make hiking and camping more efficient, lightweight and interesting... and not to forget FUN!.

Beautiful forest, natural silence, the crackle of wood and the warmth of the fire, camping food it is always beautiful, what else do you need for happiness? Videos like yours are very motivating to take a backpack off the shelf and go wandering through the forest trails. And I am one of those people who became involved in tourism after watching a video on KZbin. And you continue to draw me into this hobby more and more..... Thank you for the pleasant atmosphere.

You, sir, capture the mesmerizing quality of Nature better than probably anyone I have seen. The combination of audio and video in watching and hearing a fire crackle, a stream babbling over rocks, the awesome and total sound-swallowing silence of heavy snow on a still day, wind in the big trees, the soft contemplative essence of light rain on your lavvu, and this shot of the ice crystals in the sun. I could put that on a loop and just stare at it for half an hour. Better for the blood pressure and hypertension than all the medications in the world. You deserve a PhD in Relaxology. I have several criticisms on camp set up and cooking. You don't use bare hands for snow, you sap your body in calories in doing so. What I truly love is the audio and visual of the winds. As a fellow snow camper, that is the best. Great video.

While I’m enjoying the video…culinary recommendation: for the stew, buy an 85/15 beef mix and add it first (save water for last) Lower heat(higher cooking pot😂) at first to render the fat. After that, Lower down the pot for higher heat so we can get some nice fond on the pot. Add any spices to they can roast a bit in the sizzle and then ad your onions and mushrooms. (Let them get some color for a bit to develop flavor. Now add 2 crackers( I’ll explain in a bit) Now add the rest of your veggies the water and stir, making sure to scrape the bottom. You’ll pull up the fond, flavoring your stew and also stir in your crackers which will thicken it! Happy cooking and, as always, your videos are amazing!

In the first half, some of that snow covered terrain looked pretty unstable/slippery/ankle-breaking and hidden. I think you made it look easier to traverse than it actually was. 🍺🍺

but I am so curious and vastly impressed how you managed that shot climbing out of the snow covered tent.......remote recording maybe?....how did you set up your camera without disturbing the snow on your tent........thats a miracle for sure...... maybe secret entrance.....!

@@LG-rv8dx darn I didnt know that there was a second exit.........my usual tent only have one exit, unless you slip under the canvas..........still an impressive and suggestive shot though....... I use a bivibag......one entrance for winter and my lavuu tent for summer because this is more airy and creates great shadow....to cool off......but also with one entrance......but bot without a groundsheet......so an easy escape nonetheless.....

Ah, you have that portable iron stand for boiling pot. That's a food steam machine South Korean uses. Useful thing. Beautiful sights, nice camping. I'm always enjoy watching, thanks.

Love your videos, Swedwoods! So calm, no commentary, fun to watch, beautiful nature and always something new to learn for me. Watched every video on your channel, each video is same quality like others you did. Also loved your canoeing series! Thank you, greetings from Prague in Czech Republic :). Btw nice sleep bags combo, but i am worried that wouldn't fit for me as i ten to sweat and produce a lot of moisture; i would probably wake up in middle of night freezing from everything being wet :(.
