It's also described kinda similarly to how the egregore looks, considering the amount of visual description we have.

While watching Destiny Lore Vault’s recordings to add to my lore project, a connection popped into my head. These Egregore plants function very similar to the Mycelial Network shown in Star Trek Discovery. As much as that show sucks and breaks basic Star Trek canon on a daily basis, it did help me understand this concept. The Egregore and STD Mycilium are similar in that they are a galactic fungal network that can spread through some kind of sub space, and both allow connection across long distances for somthing, the difference is that STD Mycilium when paired with Discovery’s Spore Drive and a living thing acting as a nav computer whether it’s the giant space Tardegrade or the scientist Stamets, it allows the ship to jump nearly anywhere in the Galaxy, and it even connected Stamets to his Mirror Universe counterpart and they chatted, overall a positive thing. But the Egregore is different in that it feeds off death and decay, spreading by that. It can also connect the minds of the dead to others afflicted by the spores, but it spreads dangerous and quick, overall a bad thing.

I think the Fungus is one of our first clues to another darkness power. Many of the points you drew here in combination with others I've made has me really thinking. Such as the scythe this season really caught my attention. Specifically Eris' description of it. A burning combination of light and darkness creates a blade of dread. We can see the light is solar but what is the darkness? This combined with what's going on with the nightmares. They reflect what's in the mind, but the real plot twist was how confronting that nightmare leaves us with this blue force ghost instead. Like the witness isn't exclusively in control of how this psionic power presents itself when cast out into the universe at it's victims. Some aspect of darkness is psionic and likely based on emotion. I think this is tied to memory. Additionally we know the nine only exist because of the thoughts of living beings interacting with their dark mater tendrils. Are the nine brought to life by this aspect of the darkness? Is this power Darkmatter itself? Does darkmatter have thoughts and feelings by it's nature and it attaches to our memories in life and remembers them? Is the pyramid just releasing a signal that stimulates the darkmatter around us that's been holding that memory? Perhaps instead of psionic and emotion it's just darkmatter and these are properties of darkmatter. So some form of darkmatter manipulation is a darkness power. This sort of makes sense when viewed in comparison to stasis.

The Egregore connecting in somewhat vascular networks across space and time calls to mind the spectral "blood vessels" seen around powerful Nightmares, and upon the death of powerful Dark-aligned beings such as the Caretaker & Rhulk. Perhaps those ethereal filaments are the Egregore, and it's "feeding on the psychic emanations of death" is actually a kind of... recording process, preserving the deceased memories within the greater Darkness as a whole.

Byf I don't know if you've already picked up on this but the voice Oryx heard when calling the deep to inhabit the ogre, I don't think it was the witness. The words the voice uses and the way it refers to itself honestly seems more like how Rhulk talks. I honestly just found it interesting
@Catalyst3752 жыл бұрын
No, I doubt it was Rhulk; he held contempt for Savathun and looked down upon Throne Worlds. I believe it is the Winnower itself who spoke to Oryx. The informality with which it addresses Oryx in the "Books of Sorrow" matches with the speaker of "Unveiling", and both use the specific word "Majestic" - to refer to the idea of the Final Shape, to refer to the Guardians, and also to the Pattern that would become the Vex.

With the whole spread on the helm, I had an idea: The egregore spores function off of memory really common in darkness related energies and fauna. Considering that nightmares are built upon traumatic memory’s, with the positive blue nightmares (memory of upfront etc) are a more complete memory of each guardians past, it’s not a stretch to say that by containing them inside the crown of sorrow we are speeding up the growth cycle. The worst part is that a guardian can have multiple nightmares and each nightmare with its own series of memories, meaning that we are cramming the crown of sorrow with memory fuel for the egregore. TLDR: our nightmare harvest is speeding up the growth process, and by seasons end we risk an assault by Calus.

It is curious that Calus mentions that the Egregore feasts on the psychological aspect of death, the fear at the moment of death. People who have come close to death have famously described a moment where their life flashes before their eyes -- memory. There's that word again, connected to the Darkness. And as we see from Cabal bodies in the Pleasure Gardens, the Egregore can fuse with the spine and brainstem, stimulating activity. More to do with the mind and memory...

I'm gonna stand by the theory that calus is going to be the main enemy of the lightfall expansion and the new darkness subclass we will get will be directly linked to the egregore spores, if that takes the form of a poison type of element to combat the spores or if the egregore spores themselves are whats used in our new darkness abilities is up for debate, also i do think the stasis subclasses will get an update giving each class an additional super to select from much how the light subclasses have more than 1 to choose from
@josefzalusky73072 жыл бұрын
See, I'd be very cautious of a subclass linked to the Egregore. With the newfound knowledge that the spores of the Egregore essentially link whoever breathes them in to whoever's watching through the network, we've been giving the Witness intel on every aspect of our methods of combat. Every time we made a move on the Glykon, every advancement we make into the Leviathan, certain aspects of Gambit matches, what goes on in Drifter's room and even our activity within the Helm is feeding the Witness with information. To try to wield that power would be to put ourselves in even more danger, or worse, we may end up in a similar situation that the Hive are in, where we have to slaughter countless lives or be devoured by the Egregore that we've allowed fully into our bodies. In my opinion, the next Darkness subclass could be a Gravity-centered subclass similar to the gravity weapons the Black Fleet used to destroy the structures on Titan during the Collapse. I do like your idea about a poison subclass focused on fighting the Egregore, but wouldn't an aspect of Light be better equipped to do that? I was actually wondering if it was possible. It'd be interesting if we found an aspect of Arc, Solar and Void Light that could be used to destroy the Egregore. It could go something like this: -Void Light Weakens the Egregore after enough focus, softening a portion of it and rendering it vulnerable for a brief window of time. -Arc Light Shocks the Egregore, disrupting the network and making it harder for it to recover from the Weakening effect. -Solar Light Scorches the Egregore, burning it away, finishing the job the other two elements began. If it worked methodically like that, I think that would be a great opportunity for a fireteam to use the synergy of each element in something like a Raid or Dungeon. Just a thought, though.

So I've not seen anyone talk about it, but have you checked what the word "Egregore" means and how its used in occult circles? One such use of the word is to describe a metaphysical construct born out of large groups of consciousness and their perception of a particular person, place, or thing. Said construct acts like a copy of the thing in an occult sense and in some cases is thought to have a separate consciousness or energy from what it is born from. Some people believe gods themselves as humans know them are nothing more than egregores brought about by the sheer power of belief. Egregore vines and mass combining to form a sort of bipedal horror with weapons? I’d love that
@genma0232 жыл бұрын
A new way to access the ascendant plane without massive amounts of power. Just a buttload of sacrificial pawns. Can't wait to see how xivu arath, or any of the Hive in general, takes advantage of this. nokris and savathun would definitely take advantage of such.

Hey Byf! Great video as always! What’s your void Titan build??? I am envious of your grenade spam
@LordHeliox2 жыл бұрын
He has armamentarium (exotic chest piece that has double grenade) and the fragment that gives devour with orbs of power And i would say + charge with light that gives grenade energy after throwing a grenade. You can make something with all that info

"intelligent fungus that can think across the void of space" They're talking about the Flood, right? That's literally the Flood, and I choose to believe this is a reference to it

My theory is calus has fused himself with the egregore spores, basically becoming the spores themselves.

I have a theory that Calus killed the Clipse & their Arcologies in order to help feed his Egregore project on the Leviathan. In the "Mask of Rull" loretab and other associated armor pieces it tells of a species we haven't seen that Calus uplifted into Arcologies on-board the Leviathan. There's also a loretab/voice file somewhere in the current season that states several loyalists disembarked from the Leviathan after it came back from wherever it was. Just some food for thought!

Bubgie gonna make this the new Darkness subclass I BEEN SAYING THIS FOR MONTHS!!
Starting video but offering my thoughts based on what Ive seen and expierenced throughout all Destiny 2. (didnt play D1) Calus is reaching out to the Pyramid to control it. In return the egregor is spreading to turn the leviathan into a new Pyramid.

what if the reason why the darkness is linked to memory is that after something dies only memories remain? which might mean that if only memories remain and you take those memories with deepsight or otherwise you bring it closer to the final shape: „that which remains when all that can be removed has been removed“

One thing i would like to know is related to calus and the traveler, calus himself, with the help of the darkness, fused his counsciouness to the leviathan, he turned into the leviathan itself, using this new knowledge, it could also apply to the traveler, since the leviathan is a ship, a machine, so is the traveler, they could explore more on that.

Is there perhaps a connection between the egregore fungus and the strange Light-draining *something* the Drifter found when he fled far to the edge of the system after he was raised?
@Arkaeus042 жыл бұрын
Calus is trying to become the lunar pyramid and probably trying to fuse it with his leviathan which kinda make sense for cabal to do since in lore the empire would combine technology when a new species join them so they that they use the same fuel source.
@spunkinator132 жыл бұрын
So its basically the flood, but without the infection forms, and honestly way more terrifying despite spreading so much more slowly.
@jcruz53122 жыл бұрын
Am I alone in thinking that crows comments on spores thinking across space is a reference to the flood, not that they are the same but more of a reference to bungies old title

So to me I find it interesting because in some of the lore where it explains that the fungus is apparently similar to Stasis in that it is a physical manifestation of the darkness, which I HOPE is hinting to a new Darkness power come Lightfall.
@AxisChurchDevotee2 жыл бұрын
If it is, I assume it'll probably get a major aesthetic change like stasis did after shadowkeep.

If death is essential to the growth and expansion of the fungas, maybe that was Calus’s real reason for inviting us to begin with. We sure did a lot of killing the first time around.
@little_tornado18042 жыл бұрын
There's a fascinating point here- Something that connects across space, and which flourishes from Death. Haven't we heard of that before? In the books of Sorrow? When the Hive left Fundament. Wouldn't surprise me if the two weren't unrelated.
