Even though I've been frustrated with how Destiny has (or hasn't really) told its story over the years, I always appreciate that they go for such high concept writing, and that they never dumb things down or sacrifice a complex concept when that complexity is where all of the interesting bits are.

Agreed. The excerpt at 4:45 about women is nice to see for someone with a background in cell biology and genetics. I appreciate how Clovis’ description of women involves biology includes X-inactivation. For female mammals, one of the X-chromosomes at random is inactivated to prevent excess expression of the genes of the X chromosome. It makes women genetically stripy in a sense, since about half of their X-chromosomes will express their fathers genetics, and the other half their mothers. Its why tortoise shell and calico cats are all female.

When you got to the jargon-heavy part, I was super impressed with Bungie's writing team. How do they do it? Also I feel this better highlights your point of villain vs antagonist. Caiatl is clearly not an ally but definitely not evil either, whereas Clovis is clearly an evil POS and definitely a villain even though Clovis AI kind of helped us.

I think I have a theory on why the Darkness seems to be invested in Clovis' Exo project: based on everything we know about the Darkness, from its connections to the Hive, the Vex, and the Taken, to the way it communicates with others (such as Cayde seeming to encounter it while it possessed the corpse of a Fallen Captain, to it communicating with us by using our face and voice as well as the voices of others, to it creating the Nightmares in the image of our enemies, to it using the Locus Of Communion to seemingly interact with Calus), I believe that the being that we know as the Darkness/the Winnower has no physical form of its own and it wants one. The Final Shape isn't just for the universe, it is for the Darkness as well.

When talking about the "precursor found on Luna" I think Clovis Bray is refering to another Darkness orb that messed up the K1 crew and then was sealed on The Anomaly map. In the Clarity Control room in the DSC, there's little rooms you can enter, I believe it's the room on the right that features another one of these orbs. I'm pretty sure this is a different orb to the one the K1 crew found as that one was sealed in The Anomaly map, and Rasputin dropped a WARSAT on a titan that once tried to open it, implying there's still something inside.

Love these Clovis Bray lore videos. Honestly, the story with Clovis Bray and the creation of the Exos are really interesting and the best story in Beyond Light. Eramis is okay, the Darkness was kinda interesting (wish more happened), but learning about the Exos and Clovis Bray is super interesting. His experience with the Darkness all the way back in the Golden Age is really intriguing and I hope they continue that part of the story in a great way.

So the whole exo thing is the same argument as the ship of Theseus, or the transporters in star trek, is a copy of your consciousness really your consciousness? It seems like thats the reason that the first exo's degraded and broke. But, to me, its not just that. It's so much more horrible. It feels like he used the darkness to really transfer the mind and more. He used the darkness to take the minds and the vex to bind them, it creepy and disturbing. He's basically trapping minds and "souls" in a mechanical form, and Elsie has been in that body, without a guardian reset button, fighting for hundreds, possibly thousands of years. Its insane to think of what she's seen, like Sarah conner on a universal scale

It wouldn't suprise me if he saw The Black Garden, and the Sol Divisive; Existing in congurence as they are the precursors to his entire concept using the Darkness to enhance and reduce the Vex radiolaria itself and make it conductive to concepts the Vex do not emphasise with like Paracausality. Also there is a precursor inside of the Black Garden as well, which might he been seen by him. But this is just speculation from me though....
