Love you Byf, I don’t comment often, but I’ve watched your videos for a long time. I would, respectfully, implore you to not engage with Veilguard work. It’s already got massive amounts of bad publicity surrounding it for the same reasons why Sony dropped 200mil+ on Concord and it bombed. This is not the great DA of old, it’s an HR department head wearing Dragon Age as a skin suit.

It unanimously agreed on to be the most mediocre in the franchise. I played all of the DragonAge games as they came out. It's been 10 years since Inquisition, and I'm still not sure if I'll pick up this game or not due to little free time. But, watching this felt like a HUGE nostalgia trip. Familiar characters, remembering each choice I made in my campaigns, and the deep lore that the game had. Might make me pickup Veilguard and see where the story leads now. Thanks Byf for an excellent video!

What retcons cause there really isnt any besides Solas not being the one to kill the titans? Like explain cause its more revelations based on DAI and following up on that, retcon isnt revealed information btw when the prior info didnt exsist , a retcon is if the sky was blue in a prior game and then the next they establish its always been yellow

@@tomdelongjohns Respectfully, I am sure you did everything you could possibly do as research for the series but as someone who has loved this series and its lore for years, I cannot agree with this take. The writing of Veilguard may not have retconned anything outright in an effort to respect worldstate choices but it certainly sanitized the world and, by extension, the tone. The big plot points were there, sure, but the little nuanced things becoming shadows of their former dark fantasy barbarity (like the Antivan Crows who are known as brutally efficient assassins who buy slave children and torture and train them from a young age (but we just don't talk about that anymore I guess) as an example OR the complete and utter removal of broodmothers, the most horrifying and consequential realization as a child-bearing dwarf or grey warden. Where did they go??) is a little.... not great I would say? That combined with a protagonist who's only voice is "accepting and supportive" in an RPG of all places is frustrating and I understand why people are upset. I think the game is fine if I look at it as an outsider. As someone who has stewed in the lore for years and years though, its disappointing and falls flat. I'm not great at putting thoughts to paper so I just want to iterate that I'm not trying to come off aggressive or anything. I think it's healthy to be able to critique the game's pitfalls while praising the things it did right. There's plenty I enjoyed about the game but the writing and tone itself left a lot to be desired and I think we should be honest about it to Bioware so they have a chance to learn. Lord knows their whole writing team has been cycled out multiple times through multiple layoffs.

Veilguard was my first dragon age game and I'm still confused as hell. Are the archdemons the old gods or are they high dragons bound to the old gods? How would the evanuris escape the fade to wake up as a dragon?

@@joshbeverly short version. Archdemons are old gods bound to evanuris. The evanuris do not leave the fade to wake them. The darkspawn are who wake the sleeping old gods.

KZbin seemed to not post my comment. So I'm not typing all that again. So I'll brief it this time and hope it shows back up. The other evanuris are either mind broken or dead because the soul of their old gods were destroyed by a grey warden during their respective blights. They may be alive or not. But they are not functional and are certainly trapped if their body still exists. Elganar and ghilinain bypass this rule by being free and able to use the blight themselves.
