A friend of mine had an Eagle 4WD with an in-line 6cyl. That car went Everywhere. He and his wife put over 300K miles on it. An in-line 6cyl engine will ALWAYS out last any V6. An in-line 6cyl has 40% less moving parts than a V6 and has a lot more low end torque.

Since Chrysler has always been the most "financially challenged/strapped.....aka: poorest" of the domestic three, the weird must have been their way to draw in potential customers.

Apparently their net earnings had been on average ONE TENTH (aka 10%) those of General Motors for decades, which was quite crazy. This in good years, because in bad years GM still registered massive profits (like in 1958, still literal hundreds of millions in net earnings) whilst Chrysler slumped to red.

The AMC Eagle also wasn't the first US all-wheel-drive passenger car, that honor belongs to the Four Wheel Drive Auto Company's Battleship from 1906. F.W.D. only built about a dozen cars before they switched to trucks other than the F.W.D Special which raced at Indianapolis in the mid-1930s.

I recently wound up behind a Chrysler Crossfire Convertible, which I thought looked quite unique, dorky, weird but somehow kinda nice. Whenever I think of vehicles like it, I immediately think of that "sporty" convertible Saturn offered near its end. I've always liked the look of those admittedly. I've also always loved the look of the PT and the Prowler.

The only problem with the prowler was the lack of a v8 or v10 option. Had that been the case, it would have probably seen a hellcat like reception. A built 360 magnum or a viper engine in a small car like that would have been insane! Even adding 2 cylinders to the 3.5L would have been much better. granted, the 3.5l wasn't a slouch, but it really needed a v8.
