No, your are definitely not exaggerating!! What's wrong with people? Why didn't they just take your word for it? I understand. I have some pretty bizarre health problems and it's one thing if some people just don't get it, that's understandable, but when people doubt your own experience, and the people close to you don't at least try to understand what it's like for you, that just sucks. It's like, how can they be in your corner? I'm sorry your parents are this way. Hopefully he'll make a video about more extreme nearsightedness and your parents can watch it. Also though, even if one's vision is perfect, some people don't have facial recognition, or don't have good facial recognition. That's an actual problem that does truly exist too. And it's not something one can help with a better attitude or something. It really exists.

As a person with about -2 vision, it looks pretty accurate but at the same time a little bit weird. I can't pinpoint why exactly, but I think it's due to the constant focus of the camera. Being near-sighted you can focus your vision more towards certain elements, while outlying elements become harder to acknowledge. The blurriness is pretty much what happens though. The further away something is, the more two colours flow over into each other, so similar colours and small details are smoothed out to a mixed gradient while high contrasts flow into each other like a double image. I first got glasses when I was pretty adult, and I especially recall being able to see individual leaves on the trees as a mind-blowing experience. And it made it easier to read where the buses were heading before they were at the bus stop.

I didn’t have my eyes checked until I was 31, only 3-4 years ago. I did as a young child but that’s it. I have myopia as well, with astigmatism. I remember being so excited when I first got my glasses that I could see so clearly while driving, nothing was blurry like it had been. It was kind of a shock to me, because I had always assumed no one could see clearly at a distance anyway, I was acting so dramatically happy over the fact that I could read what time it was on the microwave in our kitchen, when I was on the other side of the kitchen🤣 At my recent check up, my left eye vision has progressed a bit worse, so I’m waiting on my new glasses to be ready and I think once I put those on, I’ll be excited all over again! 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

-5.75 and -4.75 here. With a mild oblique astigmatism (opposite directions) in both eyes. People often really don't seem to understand that we're legitimately nonfunctional without our glasses. Hairdressers in my experience have been the best about this, though? They ask me to take my glasses off and it's like "Okay, I trust you, just realize I can see *nothing* of what you're doing while they're off" and they're cool about that and believe it. Probably because of how often they have customers who need to remove their glasses for a haircut. They're just exposed to that reality more than a lot of others.

As someone with -13 myopia (probably higher now it goes up every year) this video was a bit almost emotional, lol. They can't correct my eyes all the way anymore, so even with glasses I feel like I'm constantly living at -1. People don't really understand until I tell them to put on my glasses and it gives them an instant headache. It sucks when a camera can see the world better than you can, so videos like this has always struck me as very important for making people realize how debilitating bad vision actually is... why vision isn't automatically covered under Healthcare, I'll never understand.

Do not worry, when you are hit with presbyopia, you will easily read books and smartphone without glasses. It is better to have even mid-low myopia like - 3D than being hyperopic with +1 D. A hyperopic person (with presbyopia) cannot see clearly from any distance without glasses. If he still can accomodate, he will see very sharply in distance, but looking at the watch or a smartphone without glasses would be futile.

Hiya, sorry to hear that you eye sight is that bad. I have -6.5 on both sides but my vision stopped regressing when I reached age 27. Depending on glasses is exhausting. Lots of people don't understand that even with glasses we only have a field of vision which is not comparable to normal vision at all. I had a few falls because the edge of my glasses made me see steps where they are not. Also so far I have spend about £3500 on glasses and contact lenses (and I buy cheap). I finally decided to get my eye side corrected and did some research. When looking at possible procedures, I have read about a surgery where they implant contact lenses (Implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery) which goes to -18. I hope you find something that works for you. Good luck.

From what I remember, I had near-perfect (if not perfect) vision when I was little, but around 3rd or 4th grade I remember starting to notice it being hard to read the classroom board from the back of the class. I went maybe 8 or so years like that until I finally got glasses. And the first thing I really remember noticing was the details of trees from a distance. Specifically being able to pick out every single leaf was crazy to me. I have a little under -3.0 and one of the issues I've had walking the street without glasses it's actually the curve. Since you lose the sense of depth and distance with all being blurry. You get to the corner to cross the street, you know there is a step to get down to the street, and staring intensely down you take a leap of faith and drop your foot. And maybe the step is just 2 cm deeper than average, and you have a micro heart attack on the way down, there is no way to know! Is like when you dream you fall, or when you didn't notice the last step on a staircase. Awful!

I have now around -0.5 myopia, and some astigmatism, but I can do just about anything no problems, on the list of downsides, my eyes don't moisturize as well, and on dry days I need to put some eye drops sometimes. But overall, I really would recommend, I'm at around 4 years now since I did the laser surgery, and overall my life has improved a lot. Besides, if I decide I really need to see something PERFECTLY I could still wear glasses to correct the leftovers, but for daily life it's unneeded.

Last time I got my eyes checked, both of my eyes were at -11 with some change, but I’m sure my eyes have become a bit worse since. My eyesight has changed my life and I can’t imagine living life without my glasses anymore. I love to see these videos so much but would love to see another with the highest prescriptions like -10 to -14 because these are very accurate descriptions but the extremity of the higher levels is truly unmatched. No one truly understands what I mean by “I can’t see” without my glasses and it’s hard to explain how bad it truly is. Videos like these are so helpful and informative for those who do not have the same visual handicaps as myself, so I’m so happy that someone is talking about it as such. 😊

As someone who is -2.5 in both eyes (with astigmatism too) I never understood my friends who chose to never wear their glasses, not realizing their vision was still way better than mine haha. I also didn't like plays until I got glasses because I couldn't tell the characters apart so the story was hard to follow. I take my glasses off on some rides at amusement parks and I always hate it, it makes me feel so vulnerable. Even just walking around, I can easily navigate and not bump into people or things, but not being able to distinguish faces or signs or details is pretty unnerving and I never really get used to it, not matter how long I have my glasses off. What REALLY confuses me is people who are far-sighted! Moving things closer to my face in order to see it better has been an reflex since childhood, so it always baffles me when someone (like my mom) moves things farther away in order to make it clearer. That just makes it worse, how can that possibly help?! I would love to see a video on how things look from that perspective.

I noticed that many older people who need glasses for close distance totaly don't realize what it is to see badly on far distance, they just don't get it, they don't know what are you talking about, they are constantly asking about something and showing it to you when you don't have glasses and you have to always explain that you can't read that and they still don't remember that and do it again next day. 😀

Astigmatism and -2. Wow, this video is what I’ll be sending to my friends to show them why I refuse to drive without my glasses. Short (not really) story for anyone who wants to read it 😊 When I was 18, I enlisted in the United States Air Force. Well, upon reaching the vision test at MEPS I was fairly confident that my vision up until this point was 20/20 and that everyone just had a little bit of blurriness off in the distance. It wasn’t until I got to the vision portion of the test that I realized I in fact do not have 20/20 vision. When the medical personnel in the room asked me if I could read them the line in the slide device. I peered into the lenses and I asked if they could put it into focus first. They asked me what I meant and I was faced with the gut wrenching realization that, in fact, I did not have perfect vision… “Don’t worry buddy, you don’t need 20/20 to enlist, let’s check your vision on the machine behind you” they comforted, “you’ll just need to get some glasses and come back when you ship out to complete these tests again.” After recovering myself and letting out a sigh of relief I returned home to schedule an appointment. Fast forward to the moment I stepped out of the store with my new specs and, holy Toledo, I could read license plates from over 10 meters away! What the hell was I doing before? Night driving became enjoyable, to the point I preferred it over day driving. A set of prescription sunglasses later and I’ve been rocking my favorite frames on both for over 4 years now! Took me a while to find frames for my nighttime and indoor glasses (Flexon 610’s for those still reading, a very VERY light, nigh weightless design) but the pair I just mentioned worked wonders. I made a firm decision on some MCM aviators because why not, and even after they’ve been through new nose pads and the logo peeled off the sides, (and some scratches 😅) I can’t see a reason to change. I could probably do with some new prescription 6 years later, but, honestly? My vision seems preferable at the current correction. I know I know, that’s what I said before needing them at all, but that new prescription headache lasted weeks the prior two adjustments and at this point I think I can manage another year or so just fine on the current setup. If you’re not sure you need them, and you think your vision is great, just for giggles stop in at your local optometrist and get a checkup just in case. Ya never know what you’re missing out on :) Cheers, and great video mate! P.S. Don’t waste your time serving if you’re bright enough for higher education. If you want to serve, get a college education and become an officer by any means. The pay is better and everyone will hate you, but, the pay is better and everyone will hate you.

This helps us poor-sighted people to explain our life to people with healthy eyesight. @@krollpeter I would 1000 times over prefer to be far sighted as opposed to near sighted. It's such a pain in the ass and there were a couple times my cat knocked my glasses behind my nightstand and similar without me realizing and I couldn't find them for the entire day. The first time I had nothing else and was essentially disabled by my vision. My balance was off so I kept bouncing off the walls, I almost fell down the entire flight of stairs the one time I attempted to go down them and I couldn't really see things on the floor or tell how far things were from me so I'd tell over things or think I was gonna lab against something but fall into it instead. The second time I had an old pair of partially dried out contacts that I soaked till supple and put in ... Which was a HUGE mistake, don't EVER do that. The next day one of my eyes was swollen shut because I had a scratch on my cornea. All around bad time. This is such a cool video! I’m nearly a -5 in both eyes with a slight astigmatism in my left eye. Recently I got a corneal ulcer in my right eye and was told to stay out of contacts. For the first few weeks I didn’t have anything close to updated glasses so I went through my first month-ish of school not being able to see. At all. I didn’t realize how agonizing it was to walk around not seeing how close I am to people or having to ask who someone is when they come and say hi let alone needing accommodations in every single class because I couldn’t tell if words were written of the board. That was nothing compared to the insane amount of pain I was in. There were days I was face down on the floor with my face in a pillow for hours on end crying because it hurt so bad. It felt like a hot needle was stabbed into me eye and was being slowly rotated on bad days, on good it felt like I had something stuck in my eye. 24/7. I had to wait until I was healed completely to get an eye appointment for new glasses because my vision was really bad in my right eye due to the trauma. Once I was finally done with treatment the ulcer reoccurred so I was back at square one and now I’m on a slow journey to being fully healed.

Wow, I feel for you. I had prk laser surgery to correct my -6 myopic left eye and -2 astigmatic right eye and recovering from that was exactly as you described, but only for three days, can't imagine what it would be like to live with that pain for longer. Hope you're ok now!

I wish someone would do this but with higher numbers. I'm currently at about -13 and nobody understands that certain objects depending on the size can literally completely disappear from my vision because it blurs so much it becomes invisible to me. Also I literally cannot recognize people without my glasses, they're all just blurry blobs. Explaining myself with this strong degree of near-sightedness and no visual examples for people is.. a pain.

I was at about -3.75 before LASIK almost 20 years ago (it will be 20 years in 4 months). Watching this brought back such memories for me. It was so disorienting to do anything uncorrected. For the past almost 20 years I have had better than 20/20 vision (20/40 the day after and it improved to 20/15 within a week or so and stayed there… from 20/200 to 20/15). LASIK was definitely a fantastic decision for me.

This reminded me of the time, before I did laser correction, when I had to find the glasses store as I had broken my glasses, all that with a -6.5 in one eye, and -6.0 on the other, plus some astigmatism. Either way, I was wondering if you could make a video about laser surgery. I'm pretty happy with my results, and while my vision is now 20/20 according to the last time I went to the optometrist, it isn't quite as perfect as it used to be with glasses. Plus, my eyes don't moisturize (is this the word?) as well. Overall tho, definitely worth it as I do not need glasses anymore. I suppose if I wanted I could even try to fix the probably -0.5? I have left with glasses, but it's definitely different than the need from having -6 or so lol.

I think it would be interesting to see an example of severe myopia. My eyesight is -8.00 in my right eye and -8.25 in my left. I try to explain what my eyesight is like to others by saying I have a little window near my face, about 1 to 1.5 inches long, where I can see objects clearly without glasses, but I think it's hard for other people to comprehend the idea that someone's eyesight could be so bad.

I have a question for anyone who knows. Do a -1 uncorrected for nearsightedness, wear a -1 corrected lense? Do the numbers stay the same with a reverse process? When the vision is corrected, do the number for eye strength stay the same as -1lense?
@HappyBeezerStudios
@HappyBeezerStudios Жыл бұрын
my eyes are -6.25 and -7.25, and I wear lenses in -6.50 and -7.50 respectively, rather have a little overcorrection than loosing the distance again. You basically wear the value that your eye is off. so if you are at -1.00, you put in lenses with -1.00, the value on the prescription is basically the amount that is to be corrected.

This video was really cool to watch as someone with myopia. Im currently 16 amd I only got glasses at 13 because I thought blurry sight was normal for everyone. Its been awhile since I went to the optometrist but Im pretty sure mine was somewhere around a 3. It doesnt help that i have astigmatism and issues with depth perception. But my glasses are a huuggee help and now I can actually see the white board in class :D

Pretty good representation. The quality of the bokeh is different, but aside from that spot on. I'm -6 in both eyes, and what I don't see talked about much is the super close-up vision you get when myopic. I can examine all the details of my finger print, and even make out the individual pixels on a phone screen when I have my glasses off. This somewhat makes up for the inconvenience, to the point that I don't think I'd want corrective surgery. I like to be able to take my glasses off and be in microscope mode. It's not comfortable focusing that close, and probably isn't good for my eyes, but it's nice to have the option.

My prescription is -1 (Left) and -1.45 (Right) but I definitely identify more with the -2 video, sometimes somewhere between -2 and -3. I wear my glasses everyday because I feel really overwhelmed and have to squint if I don’t. My glasses make my eyesight clear so they’re obviously the right strength but I feel like I see worse than I should?!

Hey Antonio! I just got new prescription. I've noticed that I see slightly better with my right eye than my left eye when I cover them. Was wondering if it's something I should bring up to my optometrist or is it normal?. Vision is sharp with both eyes. My prescription is -4.25 on right and -4.00 on left.

Super interesting! Using this video as a guide, I think my left eye is around -1.5 and my right is probably -4 or so. Together my left eye takes dominance and I can see at -1.5, but if I have to look with just my right eye, even with glasses it's blurry, and without I can barely recognize myself in a mirror a foot away.
