I'm 76. I remember this as if it was yesterday! I watched it with my mom and we were in stitches! Perry did a lot of devilish things - they were always funny, but this one had us rolling on the floor!

What a funny organized mess of a production number. I can imagine my Parents and Grandparents all sitting together in the living room, laughing out loud while watching this all unfold! Loved the lip sync, cue cards, camera, skates and Mr. Como's timing. I always thought the shows of this type were more serious in the 50's. So glad to know that I am wrong! This was so adorable. Loved it ! Thank You!

LMAO I love the self-deprecating humor of it all, so relaxed and funny. I wonder if it was choreographed to look so chaotic or if they just let a lack of rehearsal take its course, either way this is great

On this day in 1957 {March 8th} Perry Como performed "Round and Round" on his NBC-TV program 'The Perry Como Show'... One month earlier on February 23rd it entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; and on April 6th it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Best Selling chart and spent over a half-year on the Top 100 {29 weeks}... The song was featured in the 1999 movie 'Blast from the Past'... Perry Como passed away on May 12th, 2001 at age 88 R.I.P. Mr. C.

Odd, but funny. The sound of the roller skate wheels, which he specifically points out at the start of this number, precluded him being able to sing this song live. It's quite unusual for the '50s to acknowledge that a performer was lip-synching, but he intentionally shows that off before the skaters appear to then justify the gag of having the cue card and TV camera come onto the set with him.

@annrp1 If you watch and listen closely, you can see that Perry is lip syncing to a recording when he starts singing. He is visibly out of sync at times, and this is what the audience is laughing at. And Perry is loving every minute of it!
@xanthia95364 жыл бұрын
Perry did it intentionally.
@gvxrlole12 жыл бұрын
@mark11770011 You're right! It's easy to see why this number had to be lip synced. Even if the sound crew had been able to follow Perry with an overhead boom microphone as he danced around the stage they'd still be picking up the loud rumble of all those roller skates. This was likely explained to the audience beforehand, which was why they were laughing in a couple of spots when Perry intentionally moved his lips way out of sync with the music.
@gvxrlole12 жыл бұрын
Also, it does look and sound like he actually does pick up singing live at the closing part after the roller skaters have departed the stage.
