Thank you for this , got a new pup (had a few seed/deer ticks on him . He’s a mix German Shepherd mix . He got a cut on his lip , 5 trips to the vet trying to get it to stop bleeding and it wouldn’t.. then his legs swelled and was in pain , so took him back and now we’re waiting for the blood results to see what it is .. but he’s on the meds to treat for tick disease , he seems to be doing better and bleeding has slowed down and has started to clot … the scariest thing was when they let us take him home to treat him here , and they told us to take the wraps off from the IV sticks … he bled like nothing I’ve seen before had to rush him back to the vet …and he’s been there since.

This is a ticking time bomb large packs of starving tick and flea infested dogs are in abundance in remote Aboriginal Communities and also feral dogs from those communities roam about in the towns servicing those communities. Visitors to these towns whether for work or as Grey Nomads taking their dogs into these areas and then returning to the cities are putting their dogs at risk and could be unwittingly carriers of the deadly tick bacteria to major cities causing a Pandemic.

Thank you for your insight Mr Polsco. Fingers crossed Australia can avoid an Ehrlichiosis pandemic. You are completely right about dogs coming into an affected area and potentially getting a tick then transmitting the disease to other areas. I imagine that in the near future we will see restrictions coming into place with regards to movement of dogs that have come from infected areas. Thanks for tuning into the myPET Podcast :) Bec
