My boy just got a Prelude that needed the door wiring harness. After searching high and low for one a stressful weekend of carful soldering fixed it

Nice car but obsolete and hard to find parts for neighborhood mechanic who wants in and out fast business. Especially any automobile prior to 1990 that has vaccum lines or carburator. Lost art no mechanic can handle at least on east coast.

lol 8:20 I bet you heard that time is money quote from your cousin Tony...... I haven't owned very many cars but one of the best bangs for the buck I got on a used car. Was a 1985 Plymouth Turismo red 2.2L, 5 speed manual, sunroof, with 90k miles for $250 from a small corner used car lot. Most people say they hated theirs & it was junk. The clutch was slipping in it at the time but the body & interior was in good shape except for a rear plastic tail light cover. So it was priced at only $250, I was broke, needed a car & it looked kinda sporty VS super dorky cringe. So I took a gamble on the slipping clutch issue, I found a tail light cover for $20 at a junkyard, it was easy to put in. I figured the clutch would only last a couple months longer but went 2 years & many more miles before finally dying. I spent $60 for a new clutch, pressure plate & throw out bearing. I managed to put it in myself. It ran for a few more years afterwords, before something in the manual transmission went bad. I think I also spend like $30 on a wheel bearing. I was gonna keep it, fix the transmission & fix it up to look like an 85 Dodge Charger but my brother found the title & sold it for scrap when I was out of state. Why I am telling you this I have no idea....

All that work to not know if there is a bad head gasket. If you didnt want to drive it home because the rad is cracked that would tell me the car wont hold any coolant. I would do the rad, then bleed coolant and see if the head gasket is leaking. Your best bet is to use a CO test to check the coolant while the car is hot with the new rad. If that checks out okay then i would follow through with the rest of the work.

EEK ! $950. for a 20 yr old Prelude ...even if it’s low miles, ...isn’t that a high price for a car like this ? Like your work & spirit , R& W , but do you think you can get $6,000. Good Luck .🍀

@@XxSavageBearxX Thanks , I guess Live and learn, huh ? I wonder what the mileage on that car is. Anyway , a somewhat educated guess would be that the same as basis, same car here in the New York tristate area would be about $ 2000. less 🍀

question for u about valve adjustment (j series v6 in my case) - should the feeler glide but touch, or have more of a tighter, dragging/scraping feel? hard to convey over text, i know, just want to do the job well
@MrBeefsnorkel
@MrBeefsnorkel Жыл бұрын
@@SplosionMovies i know exactly what you're articulating no worries. when i was a honda tech, i would adjust them to where it had a "firm and tight grip" and you had to yank it out JUST A LITTLE BIT. you wanna err on the side of being a pube hair too tight over too loose, as when hondas valves get too loose they will have a hard time starting up. this is also true for being too tight but that's a rare occurrence usually self induced by the mechanic who worked on it.

I flipped mountainbikes for a while and what I learned is that its never worth buying the ones with many big problems and going down the rabbit hole of repairing them, it takes too long and eats into profit too much, and thats if you are successful at all. I still have one bike in my basement i gave up on, still broken, disassembled into parts, taking up space and amounting to $250 total loss. You want to get one with minimal defects, dont repair them at all, wash it detail it put it up for sale the same day, make a discount if necessary just get it in and out as quickly as possible, keep them turning over, I'd rather make $100 in 3 days than $200 in a month

Can someone offer a definition of "flipping"? Is that buying and selling cars like a dealer but in the down low so any professional obligations are swerved? Or is it buying and selling as a dealer but calling it "a bit of fun/side hussle/just a hobby" as a reason to swerve any professional obligations?

It's a Prelude. I drive the only one in town. People literally offer to buy it, completely unsolicited, every month. People have asked me how much I want when stopped at a stoplight. The hot dog guy at the hardware store wants it. My lawyer wants it. It isn't "modern fast" but it is fun to drive, handles like it is on rails, and will leave most other cars in the dust. It's also affordable fun and will last forever because it's a Honda, not a BMW.
