I randomly thought of this game today and your video was at the top of the results. Nice to see a new and growing channel. Good video, nice review, pretty much agree with you on all counts. I loved this game back in the day, but the graphics just do not hold up the way 8-bit retro games do.

Mystaria was like the new Shining Force. I rented this game from Blockbusters back in the days, where i completed it. Wasn't too many RPGs for the Sega Saturn.

For the longest time i thought Lord Bane looked way different. In his portrait, i thought the skull was his head and his mustache were skeletal hands...like how a vampire might pose...

I remember first seeing a video of it in my Bootleg Sampler Sega Saturn demo disc. Even back in the late 90s, the graphics of this game were not a strong point. But I always enjoyed strategy RPGs and this was one of the more affordable ones (maybe even to this day).

It was really cheap about 20 years ago when I first got it and although it's ugly, it plays well and is enjoyable!

I played this back in the day but could not remember the name for the life of me. I remember not knowing what the hell I was doing and rage quitting 😂

Actually, Shining Force III came out after this game, so more likely SFIII took some ideas from Mystaria. I've played this in 1997 or so and I agree. The graphics are bad, the movement on the world map, the character sprites... not good. They didn't feel good at that time either, but I thought them not that bad. It's not as if there was much for comparision. The fights and charcater progression were good and I ended up liking it enough to finish it. I think it would do well as a remake.

@neosildrake Yeah, Shining Foce 3 came out quite a bit after. I didn't say SF3 came out first, though, anyway 😅. But Mystaria is still a fun game to play now, even if it's so ropey to look at! Thanks for commenting!

I rented this game a few times from Blockbuster playing it all weekend; never got to finish it- got to the last boss ... really enjoyed the strategic element always loved the animation of one your guys turning into a dragon haha but yeah the graphics was a bit rough disappointed the second game never left Japan

I owned this game and by golly, I hated it back then and I still hate it today. Sunk so many hours into it only to get bitch slapped at the second to last leg of the journey by having the game force me to fight a hopeless battle with all the characters I had not level up. Not a fun time.

I'm definitely not agree with your opinion about the graphic at all... In my opinion, for being the first rpg on the console, the graphic look quite good, and specially if you do the compare you made with FFVI ,i do agree about the fact that is kinda poor about details yes, but for the rest, considering is the first 32 bit rpg, is amazing to my eyes, even the clips with the same graphic of the game i appreciate a lot.

@@gameshack1985 If that program has such a flaw ffmpeg can always fix the audio by making it mono like so: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a aac -ac 1 output.mp4
