Mysterious whining noise - 1999 Saab 9-3 Viggen

My guess is the belt tensioner. My dad has replaced his once already on his 900SE, and it's starting to go out again. Only has 87,600 miles on it. But we've been lucky. Only other problem we've has was head gaskets.

No, it's not the power steering pump lol... It made the noise with the belt off. Power steering pumps on the fritz or low on fluid will make the most noise when steering the wheel lock to lock.

People say that this is oil sludge in the oil sump. pull your oilpan and check it before it gets worse

Mine made a similar noise on cold start ups. In my case it was my starter not fully disengaging after it started.

omg, you better fix that Viggen!!!! :O Dreamcar o.o (does that whining need fixing?) You should be able to locate it while being under the car and somebody throttles I guess.

Did you ever solve this? My ng900 after engine rebuild makes completely same noise. Its also not coming from auxiliaries, since loosening belt doesnt affect into it...
