Chrissie Hynde and her band were certainly not pretenders, they were the real thing rock band with all the trimmings. Great vocals and lyrics from a very special lead and classic rock instrumentals. Great stuff.

Seen Chrissy and Martin twice, Pete and James had already passed by time I first saw them, but Chrissy and Martin, and friends, were carrying on with total style and aplomb. "Mystery Achievement" was a highlight of both shows, along with "Tattoo Love Boys", "Brass In Pocket", "Kid" and "My City Was Gone". Pretenders are a great, great band.

This is Chrissie's take on her new-found fame. She'd wanted it for many years and finally attained it around the time the band recorded this album. The Pretenders were such a hot band right out of the gate that they became famous *fast* . Christie was tough as nails and was able to handle that. The lead guitarist, James Honeyman-Scott, and bassist, Pete Farndon, couldn't and left this world within 3 years.

Banger! That whole album is filled with great tracks like that one. Check out "The Wait". As for the lyrics, my understanding is that this song is about faking orgasms. "Cuban Slide" is the name of another Pretender's song, an outtake from their debut album. It kicks off the second disc of the 2006 cd release I'm holding in my hands.

This is the first Album from The Pretenders. I bought it when it first came out. Loved it then and still love it in 2024. Best Album Ever. Love, Love, Love, Private Life.

Bass by Pete, in black leather< Chrissie, vocals and guitar, Martin, the drummer, in suit, and James, Guitar, in black zip coat. Only Chrissie was American, the men are/were British. Yes, the music is a hard duel!

Pretenders first album should be listened to front to back. It’s a masterpiece. There isn’t a bad song on it. Top 5 college albums for me.
