Can I just mention the real hero of this kitchen demo project. Sean’s Beamer! That 3series wagon and its capability/capacity really amazes me every time I see you guys go out for supplies. Hi billy and Sean. You need to put down small stones at the gate… before dry weather. Cement at gate to move water off. And paint the gate!! Then get the garden done and charge an entrance fee. Use the kitchen as a coffee shop and make money .. you should build it like the Yokohama English Ross garden. Dead easy to make with huge impact. You have the perfect space for it..

Sean is such a good support as you proceed with the demolition. Oh my goodness, as you were taking down the last wall my heart skipped a beat or two. I’m still happy you are looking at a few decorative but functional supports to be a permanent part of the kitchen. I am not a structural engineer but the span of that beam is so long, I would think it needs support. But I’m not an engineer and you know what you’re doing. xx
@Gregg294072 жыл бұрын
The kitchen area is really starting to look nice. The high ceilings are very impressive. I think I would turn that space into a formal living room/family room/parlor; a place for guests staying in the suites upstairs can congregate in the evenings. I would relocate the kitchen to the more utilitarian area on the other side of the future dining area, just below your offices. It would be closer to the chapel, so it could serve meals more conveniently if you're hosting weddings.

top tip with the pallet tape (green binding at ~3 mins - if you find where the tape is welded and twist it so the bottom is visible, you should be able to pull the tab and break the weld quickly and easily without pushing and forcing the box out like sean (shaun?) did :)
@thefakerscritic13972 жыл бұрын
I think I would do just about anything to NOT have support poles in that space. One option that I have not seen you to consider is reinforcing that one beam with steel and then putting a veneer casing around it for aesthetics. This could applied around both beams and then stained or varnished or even carved with a simple design. To me that would be the optimal repair for results and aesthetics. You really should consider an option like this as those poles that you showed before as the permanent repair will make for awkward spacing for whatever you decide to put in that space. It would look so much more grand as one open large ceiling. Just saying... :)

Billy, why wouldn't you put plate steel the length of each side of the beams & make them look like armor with big forged rivets going through the beam. I've lived for 72 years and have never realised how versatile a hammer is. The only occasion I have ever used a hammer is when I was a child and I would crack Macadamia nuts on the concrete. I live in Queensland and my Great-Gran had a macadamia nut tree so we lived on them. Now I see hammers can not only crack open nuts but pull out nails and scrap off slats and tighten and loosen things. Wow. I'll never have an occasion to ever do those things but it is interesting. haha

For future information, those plastic straps can be easily broken by finding where the sides connect together (the plastic doubles over at that point). Turn them over and see if there is an area that you can lift up. Pull it towards the way it came from. It should pretty easily pull apart.

Watching you all bash away at that wall takes me back to my Papa having us sledge hammer a "doorway" out of our basement wall... that was fun but exhausting... doing all the walls you have done already ... wow... can certainly relate... a tiny bit. Thanks for the video... can't wait to see how you progress at the Convent. One day at a time... it'll get there. You know a kitchen that size though... just says... we need a massive kitchen that could feed the entire town ... You ever think of putting in a dinner? If you think it’s going to cost you $100K to renovate just the kitchen, why not invest in some $$$ in safer scaffolding????? Hard hats are nice, but won’t help if you land on your back . . .
