Mystery Locomotive - Myrtle Beach, SC

This locomotive has been saved today 8-23-2022. The landowner donated it to be a memorial before it was wasted away and lost over time. It should be on display in Conway SC down near the river walk most likely. Thx for the video and history.

Seen it 5 times in my life! It is off Throughfare island in the Waccamaw. Its an ex gas powered Whitcomb. O-4-0 locomotive used to pull out logs in timber use. When they closed the operation down it was just easier to leave it there with part of the track. Its been pretty much robbed of everything. Most likely owned by Conway Lumber Company.

We see it on a regular basis on our kayak tours. The past several floods have brought it much closer to the river. Many days it now sits in the water. Several big trees came down and moved it. The tracks now stick up, resting on trees. We've found some info from a railroad historian group out of Charleston.

Salvage has been completed, restoration underway.

Thanks to an awesome crew, it was salvaged and is having restoration completed.
