Ive been to Myrtle Beach around twenty times as a kid with my family. I have so many memories of those times and these places. Its very sad to see them gone. Of the day time you'd spend time at the beach or pool, but at night, it was the strip and the pavilion. People walking and cars cruising, I'll never forget... best times of my life.

The answer I keep getting from people in the know is that it simply was losing money and they couldn't maintain the park.
@LeConteSkier6 жыл бұрын
Then REINVENT the park. Hire a MARKETING team that CONNECTS with the community and tourist and THAT is how the park could have stayed. EVERYTHING changes and they needed to change up portions of the park and maybe tear down PART of it for a resort type development but not the whole thing. This losing money crap is a lame excuse. I can ASSURE you that if Mc Donalds quits with the marketing and occasionally reinventing themselves then they too will start losing money. Six Flags and Carowinds has been through many changes over the years in what they offer and how they market. All this place needed was a great marketing team and from what I saw at the park, a nice redevelopment in part of it and new marketing would have well positioned this park for success over the next quarter century.

@@MrMyrtle Well...keep digging and follow the money! IT's not a dead end. Money just doesn't get lost! Lose money? Nope...Money is never lost. Because you know why? SOMEONE ELSE GOT THAT MONEY! BINGO! How is money lost? Losing money? Hell money is never lost. Where do you come up with that bs? LOL Can't maintain a park without money is correct. However it wasn't lost. You see there is this little monetary system called the Federal Reserve! And you know what? It's not federal...and it's not even a reserve. IT's called a GLOBALIST BANKING CARTEL of LEGALIZED FRAUD! And it's hiding in plain sight. So I'd suggest to you to learn about that dirty little govt secret or...remain ignorant of you illusion regarding money as some company lost their money and had to close the park. Someone else found that money. "trust" me on that. And you would never guess who got it either. And they love the fact that you think iT was because of losing it. When a monetary system pulls the strings to what a dollar is worth and illegally manipulating a currency based on Debt and thin air you can bet it was recovered in the lost and found and the one left standing thinking it was lost is the loser,....Not the money. The ones that had extra money can't spend it on amusement and the one that got the loan on the amusement park can't maintain it. This is related to one huge bastard criminal cartel. Believe it or not!. And in fact..that should be at the Ripley's Museum in Myrtle Beach. But you can bet that these criminals aren't going to let that happen. Hell..they probably own that place to begin with....So listen to that saying when you hear it each time...to "follow the money"....Psst...did that say Follow the money until it's LOST forever? ...Nope...IT meant what it says...FOLLOW THE MONEY!

But my memory remains, and my heart is broken again now that the Pavilion & Magic Attic is gone.

Perhaps a bunch of jealous rats running Daytona did this? That's the only situation I can think of...off hand. That would make sense. but that's not the case. So tell me who would want to spoil dtwn myrtle beach sc? Now is Myrtle Beach the only one that is suffering from this spoiling? Burroughs and Chapin got their wish and made this whole area a ghetto along the beach. They close the largest anchor there that fueled the other businesses. I can assure you this is what BC wanted so they can write it off in taxes and federal and slum lord grants so they can fund their half-ass successful other developments so the company doesnt lose money.
@mickeyrob75326 жыл бұрын
We were there for the last season and went to one of those time share things to get free passes to the Pavilion. When we kept declining the "offer", the lady just said, "Well, if you're staying in a motel, then B&C is still getting your money". I politely smiled and told her we were staying in a private beach house. I just thought how pompous of her to say that. Not a good selling technique.
@LeConteSkier6 жыл бұрын
I can’t stand Burroughs and Chaplin. I really hope in pray they go under soon so people that know the history of Myrtle Beach can step back in and restore MB to what made it great in the beginning before BC was the monopoly it is now that could care less about Myrtle Beach.

Went there in 2003 when I was 6. I only remember the haunted hotel, scared me to ride it. Closing and tearing down the pavilion was the start of Myrtle Beach’s decline. I stay at North Myrtle now since Myrtle Beach has become a hot spot of gang shootings. This recent memorial weekend I stayed at North Myrtle and every morning I woke up I found out there was a shooting at Myrtle Beach. I miss the Pavilion, and can't believe it's been gone more than 10 years. The Corkscrew was the first roller coaster I ever rode - rode it with my dad in the early 90s and swore I was going to come out of the seat - ha! The Hurricane was awesome - I rode it many times with friends when we'd be at the beach during high school. One thing that would be cool to mention one day would be that the trees on the lot where the zipline thing is are some of the same ones from the amusement park (they appear to be). I remember as a kid thinking what odd trees they were, and after they tore the rides down, liked at least seeing that. One of the things I miss most about the Pavilion, is as a kid, coming in on 501, you could see the rides first thing - as we came up the road there it was always so exciting to see the Pavilion amusement park and parking garage there. We went on the Friday night of our week long vacation every year - my parents would always tell us we had to be good all week so we would be able to go and we'd behave because we couldn't imagine missing that fun (ha - think they would've taken us either way, but was a really good motivation as a kid).
@robkrasinski62175 ай бұрын
It's a shame it closed because that caused the loss of the Haunted Hotel, which I never rode, I never went to MB. It was called Haunted Inn before 1992 and had a different look. It was built in 1978 by the now defunct Funni-Frite of Ohio which went under in 2000, and it was renovated by Leonard Pickel in 1992 with props added by Sally Corp. of Jacksonville, FL a few years later. It was torn down in March 2007 and the ride cars wound up on ebay converted into trailers that you would hook up to your vehicle. The scary scenes inside probably wound up in the garbage, but there are pics from the inside on Leonard's site and at Laff in the dark, and a ride through vid on youtube. I'm trying to recreate the park as well as Family Kingdom, and part of the strip where there are a few other haunted attractions in a computer game called Planet Coaster. I have enough info to recreate the inside of Haunted Hotel.

i have absolutely no clue as to why the pavillion was demolished, i really miss it , back in the day , that place really ruled.

I have camped in Apache Campground for 52 years. The first time I ever rode a coaster was there. I HATE that it was destroyed for a zip line. I do like seeing the sky wheel in the background.

I was unfortunately not able to get to experience the Pavilion because I lived so far away but I have heard a lot about it. I do live here now and I would have loved to been able to see it all.

I spent over a year and, half of my first 22 year's of life in Myrtle Beach. I wish I could show my boy the history of Myrtle to bad it is no longer there. Well we can still go eat at peaches..

+Mark Miller it's a shame this town doesn't care much of its own history. So quick to demo everything and build over what was.

Mr Myrtle I could see if they built something so many vacant lots. We would stay on Shore Drive it is almost all original.

Burrows and Chapin , who owned the land and the building , ripped the heart out of Myrtle Beach.

Would it be possible to do a video on how the planes that pull the advertisements across the sky got started? I have always thought that was interesting how the stores like Eagles or Bargain Beachwear would advertise what they had on sale. I always look for those when I come to the beach. Any ideas Mr. Myrtle?
@MrMyrtle7 жыл бұрын
+Anna Belle I'll look into it!
@robkrasinski62175 ай бұрын
Do they still do that? I remember planes pulling words to advertise in the early 1980's in Wildwood, NJ over the beach.

I believe the original Piggly Wiggly at the end of 501 is an asian market now.

missed the pavilion by a year, we started vacationing in NMB in 2005, drove down to murrlles inlet for dinner and remember seeing it, and the coasters, then didn't go back to actual MB years later and learned they tore it all down in 2006, wish our kids would have gotten to exp it, learning the history over the years, is terrible, and heart breaking. so sad.

ZIP LINES are ugly and repulsive. The Pavilion was the best thing that Myrtle Beach had to offer. I wish some filthy rich person would help bring it back just the way it was. Myrtle Beach will NEVER be the same.
@robkrasinski62175 ай бұрын
Technically a new amusement park could be built there if the right person came along and they could get Sally Corp. to build two new dark rides there. Pavilion had the Haunted Hotel and Treasure Cave dark rides. Treasure Cave was relocated from Broadway at the Beach for some reason. Most of the other Pavilion rides were generic mass produced rides and some of them still operate at Broadway at the Beach in a new Pavilion Park. It's just that the big rides like Hurricane, Haunted Hotel, Treasure Cave, Log Flume, Antique Cars, and Rapids were all razed and are gone.

I've been going to Myrtle Beach for years and had no idea that the area that the zip line is on was once a theme park seems like a lot of wasted space now doesn't it

We really need a big park like Kentucky Kingdom here because the closest big park to Myrtle Beach is Carowinds and that’s three hours away
@ThrillsofColdplay3 жыл бұрын
I really loved the sign of this park it was really pretty I’m happy they reused it but now that’s gone along with the original classics that were brought over to Broadway at the Beach

Bodo's gone, Nathans torn down. Zip line did not make it and has no plans of reopening it. Now what?

I’m honestly not mad it’s permanently closed but I will be if housing goes in it’s spot.

whenever it was hot and humid the pavilion was a cool temp place to go with the ocean breeze blowing through it.

It absolutely sucks that the Pavilion is no longer there. But there are a lot of places in my hometown (Marion, NC) that have been torn down or closed that I wish were still around. I guess it's that way everywhere. The only thing that remains constant is change itself. Doesn't make it easier to accept, though.
@MrMyrtle6 жыл бұрын
Very true!
@joshowenby64086 жыл бұрын
I also hate that Chesterfield was torn down too. But on the positive side, MB still has Peaches Corner, the Bowery, the Gay Dolphin, Fun Plaza, Ripley's. Hopefully those places will be around for years to come.
@robkrasinski62175 ай бұрын
The reason places get torn down is because sometimes they get a offer from a developer to sell. So, the end result is that a new business gets built and the old business goes to the landfill and is eventually forgotten and unknown by future generations. That happens in the northeast with a convenience store chain called Wawa. They will sometimes buy up a building to tear it down to build another one of their cookie cutter gas station stores which cause increased traffic. It's all about money.

My grandparents live in Myrtle Beach and as a kid I lived in Conway. Me, my siblings and my cousins would stay with them the entire summer and go here all the time! I was terrified of the haunted hotel with his head coming off, I got sick on the spinning firetruck ride, the caterpillar looking ride was fun, and the wooden coaster was my first rollercoaster ride! Tickets were so cheap too!!

The year they decided to charge an entrance fee was really when it died, I don't know who made that decision but I heard rumours that because the decision makers didn't want to "lose face" they could never reverse it.
@robkrasinski62175 ай бұрын
I think that doomed the park. It was in 2000 right when the massive Hurricane roller coaster opened. That coaster only lasted seven years because of their decision to close the park. They razed the whole thing.
@robertrussell59483 жыл бұрын
What a mistake getting rid of the pavilion and the roller coasters. That stupid zipline and that other thing on the corner hardly ever gets used. It's a joke. Good job with your work on this video.

Sad, I remember riding the swamp fox roller coaster in the late 60's. It was the first coaster I ever rode, and was I scared. While I rode my mom sat in front of the organ and ate pickles, and dip cones. I assume what I called the swamp fox, you called the Hurricane roller coaster.
@MrMyrtle6 жыл бұрын
The swamp fox still exists. Its a few miles south of this location at a park called Family Kingdom.

It's an older roller coaster than the one that was at Pavilion. I wish FK could have bought the Haunted Hotel though. How would they move it though? It was razed March 2007.
