Hi Silas, record players like this played 3 types of vinyl: The large albums with mult-tracks and a small hole in the middle, played at 33 rpm; the ones like you have there, small disc with large hole, at 45 rpm; and a mid-sized disc with a small hole, at 78 rpm. The speed knob or switch on the player should be marked with these numbers. After hearing that first one change speeds on its own toward the end, it sounds like your player has some sort of glitch. Since this was before today's advanced electronics, it should be easy to take it apart and see the speed selector's parts inside. You may have a busted spring or detents/notches worn down, preventing it staying at the correct speed. Of course, it may be the electric motor, or a problem with things like the rheostat (like a light dimmer switch, but for the speeds), for which you'd need a multi-meter and some electrical knowledge. But it could very well be just an easily-spotted mechanical problem.

Ah - sounds like your record player has got a mind of its own. I think it’s possessed!

Girls had pajama parties with record players like that. Listening to Beatles, washing hair, putting in curlers, and talking bout boys. I dare you to recreate all that. That’s a classical piece btw

The rpm speed is not correct. The record player needs to be on a flat level surface as well set on 45rpm. Big hit back in the day.

The original classical work of "Lover's Concerto" was "Minuet" by John Sebastian Bach (yes it sounds like "Angels We Have Heard On High (Gloria in excelsis Deo)") !

I’m think that player is cooked. The speed is fluctuating. You need a better player.

welp, wrong setting again, but Lover's Concerto was a big hit. It's based on a classical piece of music.

Early 60s. "Lover's Concerto" was based on classical song "Minuet in G major" written in the 1700s. It is a common practice song for new piano players.

Gloria in Excelcius Deo or something like that. Yes we used to sing it in church as a hymn around Christmas time. That descending line is definitely very similar.

These Crosleys and Victrolas are famous for 1 year of the correct speed, and then slowing down or speeding up permanently. At the end, it finally started to play at 45 Theyre not designed to last. It must be past its 1 year shelf life lol

Playing records at the wrong speed is something we used to do after hearing the same song for the hundredth time or so. It's customary for your first few listens to be at the correct speed...

LOL. This is just another slap in the face of how old I am. I never thought of operating a record player as a difficult task. Imagine if it were a box of 8-track tapes! Maybe a rotary phone. lol. I’m just giving you a hard time. Too damn cute. I’m sure I get dogged out when I tell people I don’t understand how Twitter works. Never could get it. Oops, I mean X, right? Sign of the times. Hey, that’s a great Prince song….

You are still playing it too slow. The record you have was recorded to be played at 45 rpm. Find the switch to get it to play at 45 rpm. The speed was varying while you played it, as if the platter drive wheel was slipping and the player needs repair or replacement to play properly. It shouldn't sound like that!!!

Silas I just subscribed to your channel after watching you a few times. I love your reactions and have seen a couple of these mystery Mondays and I dig the concept of the record player as I am 70 years old and listened to rock since I was a young boy in the 50's. I remember sitting for hours and spinning the 45's on a player just like that. I can't wait to see what the next mystery Monday brings. B U T.....SILAS P L E A S E SET THE PLAYER SPEED TO 45 AND THEN THE SOUND WON'T DRAG. ALSO TURN THE PLAYER ON THEN SET THE NEEDLE ON THE RECORD. I ❤❤❤❤❤ LOVE YOU SILAS BUT PLEASE LIGHTEN UP😂😂😂😂😂.

AAAAAAhhhhhhhaaaaaaa haaaaaa haaaaaaa. I'm gonna start calling you 33 1/3 Bailey. The format is fun. The record player is garbage. Seriously Dude, inside your player, there is a drive belt, it looks like a rubber band. That needs replaced and the pulleys cleaned.
@ericjohnson48252 ай бұрын
That confused look on your face is because something is still up with the speed. Too slow. Either you're playing the record at 33.3 RPM instead of 45 RPM or there's something up with the record player.
