When you encounter Dogmeat at the Red Rocket if you venture into the woods on the left and up the hill a bit you’ll find a chair next to a tire with a dirty ashtray on it. Actually, if Dogmeat is a Shaggoth, this would be easy to reconcile. There is no mention of the breed of Nate & Nora's dog, so it's entirely likely that the Shaggoth acting as their dog picked some other breed that would be more convenient for suburban life than a German Shepherd, and then shifted after the Great War to a breed that would be more suitable to that environment. It's said the average dog is liken to a two year child human, that the average dog can remember 150 - 200 words, exceptional dogs 250 - 350. Fallout TV series "Dr. Wilzig" had the equipment and knowledge to tamper with Dogmeat's DNA / genetics AND he had the LOVE for Dogmeat to train her in the series to make her so damn smart. My 2 issues with the "is the Sole Survivor a synth?" theory: First. Father would have used our recall code the instant he learned of our betrayal - the Institute was more important to him than anything - him asking us to take care of synth Shaun at the end is a concession, not a priority. Second - everyone pointing out the cut-content terminal that tells us the Institute was experimenting with implementing VATS into their synths, is just that - cut content. Cut content can't be taken seriously as canon, period. "But what about the fact that you can use VATS even before you pick up the Pip-Boy??" Um, you can also use the Pip-Boy-mounted flashlight before you pick up the Pip-Boy that it's definitely mounted on. If the Sole Survivor had a subdermal flashlight implant, I think someone might mention it at some point. So I think we can call this a developer design/gameplay choice/flaw and not some link or proof of this theory.

Dogmeat, dubbed "CX404", appears in the 2024 American post-apocalyptic drama television series Fallout. In the series, the dog is a female Belgian Malinois born from a breeding program headed by the Enclave. Which makes sense since German Sheperds and Belgian Malinois are used for police and military sometimes. The program requires that underweight puppies be incinerated at birth, but Dr. Siggi Wilzig spared her. Wilzig cares for CX404 over the years before his research project is discovered and they both flee the Enclave. Wilzig later dies and is decapitated. CX404 tracks the head throughout the season before she is ultimately adopted by the Ghoul, who renames her "Dogmeat". It explains why there is a pure bred dog running around years after the apocalypse and why he is so well trained and surviving so well.

This is a very popular and sensible theory, also the institute started making mannequins then moved onto synth animals then synth humanoids. The mannequins are all over the place and they have cameras in them as stationary monitoring systems. When your in the institute there are monitors that show perspectives from higher up that match the locations of where birds are perched and you can see gorillas in the institute itself so making a companion to follow Shawn's personal experiment, his father as a synth to both protect and monitor him makes sense and lines up with the games lore.

Something that could add to the Eldritch Doggo theory is that Dogmeat seems attracted largely to people that are "Special" in several senses of the word be it the well and truly sentient and unique Nick Valentine, the "Sight" gifted Mama Murphy, and the various player characters. This can tie heavily with the idea in the Lovecraft mythos of special things attracting other special things. Additionally, the Player Characters are all universally basically nascent Demi-Gods and can tie into aspects of Lovecraft on human potential to evolve and ascend past its mortal limits. This could tie in at least in part WHY Dogmeat chooses to protect YOU among countless other reasons you of all of humanity have the potential to ascend most and become something.... more, especially the Fallout 4 PC, a true companion that wont simply die with age and would have a good morality even at your worst compared to the horrors of other eldritch beings that aren't fellow Shaggoth who even don't won't necessarily have anything close to the 'human mindset' Dogmeat seems to desire.

The Mysterious Stranger is a time traveler from the future, making sure important people live long enough to make it _to_ the future event they need to accomplish (a task which, once started, has grown to need to incorporate more "Strangers") Dogmeat is a pre-war attempt at making a combat companion for platoons with all the benefits of a usual dog, and then some. House, in New Vegas, has Securotrons that have nano-something repairing, making them that much harder to destroy (and ensuring that a destroyed one, left unattended for lomg enough, will just pop right back up and go fighting again), so the tech exists. Bombs drop, he escapes, and just so happens to make acquaintances with every Fallout protagonist that's ever been. But our best-boy is immortal, invulnerable, and even more intelligent than we realize.......all by design. My hope is that every Dogmeat is different, that they made many of them, and they all escaped, but that's a bit hard to bite. They would have packed up by instinct, _or_ they would have concluded that spreading out would be the best for the wastes (prioritize helping others, as many as possible, instead of themselves, as they probably realize their natural advantages over common creatures/people means that packing up is just _unfair to the mutated creatures/raiders of the waste!)_

So when you said that since dogmeat is essential, they shouldn’t put a synth component in there. I played the game multiple times, but if you use console commands you can kill. Sturgis but he has synth component on him, but you’re not supposed to kill him.
@philippehenri7407 ай бұрын
Dogmeat being a Synth copy of the original 2077 family dog makes sense imo. A dog's behavior is a mix of training and genetics, and most GS have a very strong protective instinct in their genes, I wouldn't be surprised if a clone of the original dog has similar instincts to the original. Now, Shaun was taken from vault 111 in his little baby towel he was wrapped in while in his crib, so anything and everything the baby had on him at the time would be frozen with him. And do you know how much GS gur gets around a house? It's quite literally everywhere. And would explain why Dogmeat is a "purebred" GS, much like why Shaun was needed for Gen3s, an uncorrupted sample was needed. And that uncorrupted sample of Nate and Nora's dog is used for Dogmeat just "loving you and protecting you". Anyway, that's how I see it, as I would believe my own GS to be that way as well :p

But there are dog breeders in Fallout 4. Gene is a character in Fallout 4 that breeds dogs that you can buy a dog from. He doesn't seem to recognize Dogmeat, but that doesn't mean that there aren't other dog breeders elsewhere, and Dogmeat just escaped and traveled to the Commonwealth. Certainly other people travel from outside the Commonwealth. In real life, there was a lost dog in Australia that traveled 2000 miles to get back to it's owners. It's 2800 miles across the United States, but that still leaves plenty of other places in the United States that could have dog breeders that breed Germen Shepherds and still have it be within walking distance for a dog to reach the Commonwealth. Dogmeat could have been traveling with an owner that was killed by Raiders or other creatures, and just be looking for a new home. And while Dogmeat can swim, he just dog paddles. No underwater diving. Heck, I have miniature dachshunds that love water, and that doesn't make them Shoggoths. While Dogmeat can swim, he doesn't always want to go into the water and will find another route to be able to catch up with you when possible. That doesn't seem very shoggoth to me.

My theory is that Fallout 4's Dogmeat is actually YOUR prewar dog that ran off somewhere for over 200 years. The evidence of this is that there is a dog food bowl in your house, but the dog's missing. Perhaps, the trauma that you endured gave you amnesia and you forgot the dog was already yours.

You forgot to mention that Dogmeat doesn't suffer from radiation damage (mind you, it seems that everyone but you can stand in the Glowing Sea without a care in the world). I guess Shoggoths are impervious to radiation too!

I’ve always thought that every dogmeat is the original dogmeat … sorta. In fallout 3 at the end when clips are shown based off your actions you usually get one about dogmeat I believe having a lot of puppies and then wandering off into the wasteland and it’s unknown what happened to him. Next is Rex from fallout new Vegas who obviously is the original dog meat but perhaps it’s one of dogmeats puppies and the fallout 4s dogmeat could be dogmeat from the capital wasteland as the timeline and distance sorta allows for this as Dr. Lee who was in FO3 is also in FO4. As for one and 2 I can’t speak to those as I haven’t played them but I like to think that it’s either the original dogmeat going about his own adventures or that it’s just dogmeats blood line and that’s why a lot of traits are shared between both dogmeats from 3 & 4 with FONV supporting the puppy idea. But this is just what I like to believe until there some cannon definitive answer.

Not Nate and Nora's dog. Being in suspended animation would be like going to sleep and waking up. They would immediately recognize the dog. Fallout TV actually may be the real Dogmeat. Which may help point to a Shoggoth using its abilities to make Dr. Wilzig do something he has never done before. Save an under weight puppy.

Heres an idea: dogmeat is a synth dog thats actually controlled by or connected to the mysterious stranger, which is how and why the mysterious stranger is always there to help us, why dogmeat is always there, and how the mysterious stranger seems to know WHEN we need help when he was no where in sight before; hes always been in sight. He is watching us through dogmeat.

I am a huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft, but have to go Occam's Razor on this, the Sole Survivor encounters Dogmeat at the Red Rocket and the radio is set to the classical music station - and that is the carrier wave used by the Institute. I will go out on a limb and state that Nora probably decided that a baby and a dog were too much and on one of her trips to the Campus Law Offices dropped Nate's canine off at C.I.T. and that's how the Institute got his DNA - I'm just putting that out there because that's basically what my dad did with our beagle when we moved from Indiana to Ohio - he used to work in a research lab at Purdue.😁

Occam's razor stesses few assumptions. Your theory relies heavily on a major assumption.

Occam's razor is all well and good, but keep in mind that this is fiction. We always have to consider that Bethesda might be trying to trick us, so we shouldn't always go with the easiest case. I didn't for this one bc Joel said that there are clues for multiple theories, which suggests that there is at least one trap. But there are times that we should utilize occam's razor, I just don't think this is one of them. Thank you for watching!

@@TheBlackRose3Hahaha! You remind me of a video I watched about Piper's 'reporting'. She is doing so much damage to diamond city. Her 'reporting' has got people pulling guns on each other and almost constantly calling others synths. "There were hints dropped for multiple theories so I don't think they went with the easiest one." So if they wanted to fool with people the best thing to do would be to go with the simplest one at least once in a while. More importantly Bethesda has a habit of using unreliable narrators and letting players develop their on 'head cannon'. To Bethesda in general 'leaving multiple hints' more likely means they didn't settling on a given explanation, instead they let the player play the game anyway the player wants to.

"The letters for OLD ONE" exist in Clayton's name" Yeah, and Sans is one letter off of an anagram for Ness. XD "The dog bowl in your house is gone, but it got moved next door!" Uh, or it's a different dog bowl? By your logic, every dog bowl in sanctuary, nay, the entire commonwealth, could be Nate and Nora's original dog bowl, all of which would be pointing in vastly different directions.

German Shepard are very much like Pitt Bulls. They are great, very loyal dogs. The people who try to own them usually can't handle them, leading them to being the dogs most commonly being put up for adoption. No 2 dogs of the same breed have the same personality. Some individual dogs of each breed can be born psycho. If a weak person has a German Shepard or Pitt, that dog will be seen as a problem and get a bad reputation.

... Fallout might have lovecraftian horror story elements in section, but it doesn't actually have lovecraftian creature. At all. Instead of lovecraftian horrors most of these sites have ghouls, lots of them. It's like the ghouls of fallout are not just a byproduct of radiation, but of tapping into something 'eldritch'. I find it more likely that the atomic weapons dropped and the FEV virus are connected to eldritch horrors than dogmeat. The only thing we can say for certain about dogmeat is that he is a good boy. Wither or not he is a normal dog, synth, or some eldritch horror, he never lied to the ss about his nature, since he never told us anything about his nature, and remains a faithful companion even when codsworth doesn't.

Great reaserch! But let us give Bethesda a little slack- they obviously didnt create Dogmeat as a repeating caracter, when they made the first games. But at some point, he just belonged in the game, along with the mysterious stranger, super metuants etc etc. That is not to say, that Bethesda didnt at some point during the creation of Fallout DID consider a background story for Dogmeat, and both the synth theory and the Lovecraftian theory fits nicely. Personaly I run with the latter, I like the idea of some kind of eternal guarddog, working for good in the wasteland..

The original Dogmeat in Fallout 1 is _not_ a German Sheppard. It's a mutt. In that game, Dogmeat dies after running into forcefields at Mariposa. 1. Everything references water in the Cthulhu Mythos. 😂 2. Shoggoths are amorphous, which means their shape is constantly changing, or in other words: shapeless. This is very different from "shape shifting" in the traditional sense. 3. Shoggoths are inherently Evil, and are terrifying creatures which exude a sense of dread. 4. Just for fun, I don't think anyone ever mentions the big reveal at the end of 'A Boy and His Dog': That the "boy" protagonist turns out to be a cannibal. Also, the dog in that movie is either mutated or genetically engineered to have adult human level intelligence.
