I really appreciate the quality of your videography. I am currently researching Mystery Ranch packs and your review is the best on youtube currently. Sold me on the sawtooth and earned a subscriber!

Hi Scott - Very Solid review. I just ordered this exact pack after watching your review. Watching you load up this pack with basically all the same stuff I use, really helped me understand the packability, features and overall loadout capability. It was also very helpful that you talked about the pack sizing, compared to your approx height and build. I would have mistakenly ordered a large, but I'm only 5' 9" and about 165lbs, so I ordered a Medium. I also have the Beartooth 80, which is awesome, but it's too big for a 1-2 day trip. The Sawtooth 45 will fit the bill for shorter 1-2 day hunts for sure. Thank you so much ! Kenny

Good review. If you properly folded and compressed clothing items you could get a lot more use of the space in that pack.

Good stuff. I bought a sawtooth 45 this spring. I hunt pretty close to home and only head out for a day at a time. It’s perfect for all the gear I like to take along, but still more compact than the old external frame pack I used before.

That rifle sticking up as high as that is gonna be really tough walking thru any brushy area. I like that pack however, and am thinking of getting one.

Done a lot of backpacking and a lot of hunting but never together. Worried about carrying my heavy AR10 on side of pack instead of centered. Would an 11lb rifle/scope unbalance the pack?

You said you wear a size 36. I'm 6ft, 220, with a 36 waist. I am not able to try any of the packs since I don't have a shop local that sells Mystery Ranch. Do you find you are at the very end on the 36 adjustment or do you feel you have more room to spare. I'm in the middle of Mystery Rance's medium and large size. Thanks.

@@scottreekers101 does the medium and large sizing just mean the hip belt? Does the pack change? If the medium doesn't fit, could I buy a replacement hip pad in large from Mystery Ranch?

I love my Mystery Ranch gear I really wish they made more than just a couple of military and fire items in the US.
@RagingOatmeal4 жыл бұрын
I cant disagree. But I listened to an early episode of Randy Newbergs pod where he had Dana the creator of MR on, he basically said that their production cost would skyrocket and production would massively decrease. To get americans to do the textile work they wont do it for min wage so every single bag would end up being 900-1000usd. Then they would price themselves out of the majority of their market they sell to because most people wont drop that for a bag they use seasonally. It was interesting to hear, sorta similar to Veto Pro tool bags.
@jhalscott4 жыл бұрын
@@RagingOatmeal no way they’d be that expensive. I bought a ton over the last 2 decades from MR that were US made. It adds about 25-30% to the price. Their US made stuff now is not that much more expensive. Just price ASAP for example. Lots of competitors can build similar offerings in the 250-400 dollar range.

I'm looking at the "overload" pack (military). I can't tell which one is better? What does the beartooth 80 have over that pack?
@EastmansHuntingJournals5 жыл бұрын
Hey @teriyakicat, are you more interested in the Tri-Zip features on the overload or another feature? Most of the military models from Mystery Ranch are designed to be compatible with body armor and have a little more weight to them and features specific to that application. However, the Pintler is the Tri-Zip hunting model that they offer that will work as a day pack up to about three days. The Sawtooth 45 will work in the 3-5 day application and the Beartooth 80 will excel in even longer trips. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching the review. Feel free to ask any questions you would like. - Scott
